Article- Reality Check: Is EJ Manuel a Bust?
A Dog Named Kelso replied to YoloinOhio's topic in The Stadium Wall Archives
You mean like the ones who drafted EJ and believed in him until the end of training camp? There in no way to know if EJ will be a good QB in the NFL or not yet. The original development plan was trashed last year and they are only reviving it now. -
I saw that he is going to use a mental conditioning coach. There are several websites, like luminosity, based on cognitive enhancement science. I hope that this is the type of thing his mental training coach will work on him with. If it more like therapy I really do not think that is what EJ needs to better his game.

I do not think we know the who story with the bold text but the quote from below and this are basically exactly correct. I especially like how you point out the the Rookie HC, Rookie OC, and Rookie QB could have used the current experienced QB, not just any, but the one who also knew the current players.

Jaws has disputed this. He has said that yes a QB can get better by doing drills and by discussing different situations that arise with a veteran QB. I take his word on whether or not it can be done. This ... It doesn't hurt for them to ask but once it was clear he wasn't going to accept it they should have just bit the bullet and kept him on as his contract was. He would have started last year and most likely this year. He was getting middling starter money anyways. "Huge Contract" is hardly accurate.

If he plays well he could be here for 5-6 years. This long term statement is strange, lets see how he fairs first. I have no illusions that he is the second coming of Joe Montana, but people are so worried about the "long term" they seem to forsake the now. Worry about the future after you fix the first issue ...not winning.

How Has Orton Looked Since He Was Signed?

Why I think Marrone should be fired...

Kellen Moore is was selected behind an established starter and Colt McCoy was started with the Browns(not too much good happens to QBs selected from them). I understand what you are saying, but isn't it more likely that those types of players are not given a chance do to prejudice of the league and a reason to be dismissive because of those "flaws", where prototypical QBs get longer ropes even though it is obvious they are not getting the job done. -

To be honest I doubt too many of the Superbowl winners from the 70-90s have arms as strong as people expect now. I don't really know, do you? Hostetler comes to mind. Regardless, how strong of an arm do you need in a near perfect environment of a dome or warm weather local in February? What you need is accuracy. -

I am not stating they should not have a average arm but having a "strong arm" shouldn't be the overwhelming reason you like a particular candidate. Take a look at the names in the lower tier here and tell me there are not quite a few you wouldn't mind being at the helm of your team: _http://bleacherreport.com/articles/1266536-power-ranking-the-arm-strength-of-all-32-nfl-starting-qbs -
EJ benched, Orton to start.

I think the Bills management agree with you. I would say why don't we see what he does on the field before we decide his worth. He is only 31, if he plays extremely well he may be a longer term(greater than 5 years) answer. -

I love this! I wish more people would pay attention to it. How often in a game do you really need to throw a ball more than 15 yards? It is mind boggling how a "strong arm" or "upside/potential" seems to be reason many QBs are liked. I believe a player can grow, even after entering the NFL, but they have to put in the effort. I do not know how often that occurs in this day and age. -

The choice of INTs or who threw them is not relevant based on the initial point. -

I completely agree. I do not really blame the organization for back-filling Kolb during the season, only because I can't think of a worth replacement. That said, Kolb was the wrong choice and Fitz should have been retained. -

You mean that fantastic play by Mckelvin or a ball knocked up in the air by a linesmen? Context matters. The initial point was if the team wins no one cares about the ints. Farve and Romo are prime examples. -

And by all accounts he is still better than the QB who was at all the OTAs,training camp, and Preseason games. That is why they made the change. -

Several NFL professionals disagree with you. He is a low to middling starter. If he has the correct situation he is very good. If he was asked to do what EJ is asked to do with a good defense a team can win. Look at the people complaining that Hackett asked EJ to throw 44 times, why would you want Fitz to do that(which he was forced to do in Buffalo), its not his strength. I'll bet Fitz can run the read-option as well as anyone. -

If he did they still should have kept them on his old contract(tried and failed). How much more have they spent on the QB position because they let him go? It really makes no sense at all. Plus all the cap space he ate up anyway. One could argue if only competent QB play was needed to win that game(which I do agree with) then their defense is not that good. Thus back to the original premise. -

Totally on the same page, I really wish they kept him and chose EJ and let him learn behind Fitz. Letting Fitz go is the single biggest complaint I have with the current FO. I am hoping Orton fills that role. I disagree. If Fitz had this team and last years team they make the Playoffs. -

I didn't say he doesn't throw picks, I included that is my post. What I said was if he won every game and threw picks no one would care. One of the reasons for those picks is he was almost always playing from behind(horrible defense). -

If we won every game no one would care. Fitz's Achilles heel was that and the defense was horrible, force the team to loss games. -

This is a perfect description. I believe this has been coached into him, hell even Gruden knock him for it in his QB camp show. The problem is, I think, he is so busy thinking about that that he can't process every voice in his head. Last year when then wanted be to let lose in the second Jets game he looked great since then I think he has regressed.
