This^ and I feel about the same for Barkley... these guys just are not that good. If Geno is there at 8 I might think about it.. I'd prefer EJ Man in the 2nd though.
A year later he has been exposed as just not that good and injury-prone on top of that... add in the history of USC QBs and it's not a miracle he has slid... Jake Locker was hyped much the same way and came back as well.... I'm not overly impressed with him as a pro so far either.
Or how about the Andrew Lucks, RGIIIs, Cam Newtons, Matt Ryans...
Just because the Bills need a Franchise guy, doesn't make there one available this year..
If whoever they get at 8 is a Jake Locker / Alex Smith would you still take him there??
Once they signed Kolb, I believed they no longer needed to reach for a QB in round 1... as the draft as drawn closer it seems like all you hear is that they are taking a QB in the first..
Why bring in Kolb if you are drafting a QB at 8... you already have a veteran backup in Jackson. Rookies start from day 1 now and you can pretty much tell what the guy has after his first season...
These QBs all have warts so ideally, I would wait until next year for a QB. However, the Bills may have their pick of any QB at 8 if Geno slides..
The Bills would probably eek out 6 wins this year and miss out on the top of the class anyways.. So would the 3rd-4th best prospect next year be any better than the crop this year??
I could only see it happening if Geno is gone before the Bills are on the clock... which means (if they haven't found a deal to move back) will need to select a QB at 8 in all likelihood. Nassib, Barkley, Manuel could really land anywhere. The Bills will have their pick of one of these guys and I actually think Manuel has the best chance of being "Elite".. but I base that on a gut feeling from what I've seen of him and could be horribly wrong.
Isn't it more than just picking a guy because he fits a scheme? Shouldn't the guy have the potential to be great if he is going to turn the Franchise around? He definitely lacks touch on his throws and I just don't find him talented enough to compete with the best in the NFL.
Watching Syracuse this season I didn't think to myself, "Wow, that was an NFL throw" or even thought he would be a first round pick in the upcoming draft.. his coaching staff getting hired on in the NFL moved his draft stock more than anything he did this season. Don't get me wrong he had a decent season but I'm not that excited about him as a pro. I think the Bills picking him at 8 will be a huge mistake.
You may be right, he may take a bit of time learning how to go through his reads in the NFL but he is such a great athlete he can def make plays right away. I hope the Bills like this guy.
My fav QB in this draft class. I think he is the most talented out of the other guys and may not be able to start Day 1 but I think his upside is unlimited. Geno has some big numbers but doesn't come across as a gamer.
I too dislike all of these QBs.. Fitz took some huge shots last year... behind a similar line I think Barkley might have his head taken off. Nassib seems as tough as Fitz but I just don't think he is all that talented... Barkley may be slightly more accurate and Nassib more durable.. I'd take neither and see if I can land EJ in a tradeback or round 2...
It really is such a tough call and I could see any of several scenarios play out.. Buffalo put itself in a bad position and picked a crap shoot draft to have to select a QB.
Nix is a terrible GM.
