Fred Jackson said he wants to remain with the Bills even if he's asked to be C.J. Spiller's backup next season. The Bills' next head coach will have final word, but even Jackson seems resigned to his fate. He'll be 32 next month and is coming off a season in which he averaged 3.80 yards per carry. "You just got to give C.J. credit," Jackson said. "He played amazing this year, and with the opportunity he got he made a tremendous amount of plays." Jackson could even end up being cut if the Bills want to save money at the backup running back spot. He's due $2.15 million in base salary in 2013 rotoworld.com You guys want to keep him?

he'll be on TV doing analysis somewhere...seems like a good candidate for that. -

How do we use CJ Spiller?
bobobonators replied to HerdMenatlity1's topic in The Stadium Wall Archives
in every which way, and often. RB WR Punt Returns Kick Returns CJ "Slash" Spiller. See if he can throw the ball..maybe we could use him in wildcat too. -

someone who can win. i don't care how it gets done. -
i think it's closer to all fans make the same complaints. that post is pretty biased if you ask me. it knocks the 2006 season by saying that they had an easy regular season schedule, and then it knocks their wins in the playoffs saying that the playoff teams were weak. lol. not very objective if you ask me. we had one of the easiest schedules this season and here we are at 6-10. Lovie Smith has a pretty substantial winning record as a HC in the NFL. That fact alone sets him apart from the coaches the bills have hired in the last 10 years. And it hasn't been until recently that he actually had a decent QB. I guess you could knock him for not being able to develop a QB all those years prior to Cutler, but how much blame should the GM take for that as well on draft day? He took Grossman to the super bowl for crying out loud. Lovie Smith's defenses have finished in the top 4 in points against three times since 2006. Defense - something the bills finished near last in every single statistical category the last 2 years. The Bills: horrible, horrible defense and a history of losing. Lovie: a great defensive mind and a proven track record of winning (as a HEAD COACH - not just coordinator) in the NFL. Sounds pretty much like a no-brainer to me.
-
the only reason the bears defense and team "wore" down as the season progressed is simple: they're an older, veteran defense. That being said, the bears defense finished 3rd in pts/game and 5th in yds/game for the season. I'll take Lovie's defenses that finish in the top 10 in every significant statistical category every single year for the next decade over anything else at this point. if the bears had an o-line, they'd be in the playoffs for sure. their lack of an o-line has more to do with the GM than it does with lovie.

i know. hire lovie and focus on recruiting an OC. we don't even have to waste time on the rooney rule with this one...lol. LOVIE, LOVIE, LOVIE!!!

Bills opening ranked 4th best opportunity

also, thinking about it a bit more..Philly shouldn't even be in top 3. Who would want to follow in Reid's shoes? Call the guy what you want, but he's been winning in Philly for the last decade. That's hard to replace. And that roster seems full of quitters and nutcases. -
Ya, we better! All I keep hearing about is Whaley's ties to Whisenhunt, blah blah blah.. We need the best possible coach available, not a favor from one buddy to another.
-
San Diego could prob be a landing spot for Lovie. We better not drag our feet by running after Whisenhunt. Advantage we have over SD at least is that we have a GM in place.
-
apparently this front-runner stuff is also on rotoworld.com now: According to the Buffalo News, Bills CEO Russ Brandon is "fond" of ex-Cardinals coach Ken Whisenhunt and "would like the opportunity to land him as Chan Gailey's replacement." Scheduled to be interviewed along with Cardinals DC Ray Horton on Wednesday, Whiz is emerging as the early favorite in Buffalo. He has another fan in the Bills front office, as GM-in-waiting Doug Whaley spent six years with Whisenhunt in Pittsburgh. Per the Buffalo News, ex-Bears coach Lovie Smith "feels very good" about his fit with the Bills, though it's not clear if the feeling is mutual. The Bills have also set up interviews with Cardinals assistant head coach/OL Russ Grimm, Broncos OC Mike McCoy and Syracuse's Doug Marrone. They're said to be interested in Bengals assistant Hue Jackson and Oregon coach Chip Kelly as well. I wouldn't be completely against whisenhunt but if the Bills are really high on Lovie's list, than I would definitely pursue Lovie as hard as possible. Screw the connection that Whaley and Whisenhunt had in Pitt. Who's the better coach? Lovie.

Bills opening ranked 4th best opportunity

And Rivers has been absolutely HORRIBLE the last year and a half or so. I'd put the Bills vacancy at #3, followed by Cleveland (they have a lot of young talent), and then SD at #5. -
[closed]Finally some real progress
bobobonators replied to Ludwig van's topic in The Stadium Wall Archives
maybe the curse will now be broken? despite not making the playoffs since 1999 and going 6-10 this year, i actually feel kinda positive going forward. don't know why. maybe it's b/c it's near year's day. no idea. -
Lovie is the best candidate in my opinion. He's a winner and a great defensive mind. Only thing with Lovie is that we better get a good OC to go with him. But there's no doubt in my mind that Lovie is a leader of men - something this team of softies needs. Only in the NFL does a coach go 10-6 and get fired. Lovie and Norv like some people have mentioned would be a freaking dream. If he truly did contact the Bills, you think it could have something to do with Dareus, KW, Mario, Anderson, Gilmore, and Byrd? He probably sees our defense and thinks: top 10. Wanny was in way over his head.
-
damn dude. why don't you go drink a little and relax?

CBS Sports' Mike Freeman reports that ESPN color analyst Jon Gruden will interview for NFL head coaching jobs this offseason. Gruden has stated publicly that he intends to remain at ESPN, but Freeman reports that teams have been "quietly" contacting him "over the past few weeks," and Philly as well as San Diego are potential landing spots. Per Freeman, Gruden could begin substantive talks with teams as soon as Monday, and is interested in a return to the sidelines "if the right job opens up." Updating previous items, Cleveland is not expected to make a run at Gruden because he's long had a frosty relationship with new Browns president Joe Banner.
-
no thanks.
-
regarding Jay Gruden: Bengals total yards/game: 22nd in NFL (bills were 19th!); Cincy was at least 12th in scoring. contrast that to Kyle Shanahan: Redskins 4th in pts/game and 5th in yds/game..with a rookie QB. Granted RGIII isn't your normal rookie QB, but you gotta give shanahan some credit for working to his strengths.
-
while he has groomed Dalton, he's got some serious talent on offense there and the cincy offense has seriously struggled at times this season...i wouldn't be upset with jay, but i have my reservations.
-
i'd like: 1. lovie smith 2. kyle shanahan 3. andy reid 4. roman 5. gruden (jay)
