Bills hire Mike Pettine for Defensive Coordinator
bobobonators replied to Smiley Dear's topic in The Stadium Wall Archives
Bills hired Mike Pettine as their defensive coordinator. Pettine's contract with the Jets expired after the season and they never made an effort to bring him back. So he makes the lateral move inside the division and joins new coach Doug Marrone's staff. Pettine's unit ranked eighth in 2012 despite losing Darrelle Revis for the season in Week 3. And in the three years before that, the Jets' defense was inside the top-five each season. The Bills, who have bounced between a 3-4 and a 4-3 over the last two years, have some serious building blocks on defense in DE Mario Williams, DT Marcell Dareus and CB Stephon Gilmore. -

Geno Smith Tells the Senior Bowl "No Thanks"

Bob. Scouts had Cam Newton ranked #10 in 2011. Where did he go? Tannehill was ranked #23. Where did he go? when 8 of the first 10 teams drafting NEED QB's and the first QB goes..and then the second goes.. you think a team will look up rankings and think "hmm" geno is #23, lets take a guard that's ranked #10 instead. QB's rule the world, and that's a fact. -
my lord, could you imagine??...LMFAO. i actually hope it happens.

The New York Post's Brian Costello "hears" that the Cowboys have fired DC Rob Ryan. Costello is a Jets beat writer. Perhaps he got the surprising scoop from someone close to Ryan's twin brother, though we wouldn't take it as gospel truth until the report is confirmed. Costello had reported earlier in the day that Jets secondary coach Dennis Thurman would be elevated to defensive coordinator. It will be interesting to see if that indeed happens now that the Ryan Brothers have a chance to reunite in New York. Ryan's Dallas defense was among the league's stingiest early in the season before losing several key players to injuries. Related: Jets

Geno Smith Tells the Senior Bowl "No Thanks"

if someone wants to argue that Geno shouldn't be taken #1 or even top 5 overall, that can be a solid argument. But if you're going to start stating that he's going to fall to the second round or even the middle or late 1st, that's just nuts. 3 QB's were taken in first 12 picks in 2012 and I think 4 were taken in the first 12 picks in 2011. 5 of the 7 teams in front of us NEED a QB. Including us, you could easily argue that 8 of the first 10 teams drafting in 2013, NEED a QB. In the last two years: Ryan Tannehill was drafted 8th. he finished his career with 5,450yds, 42td, 21int Jake Locker was drafted 8th. he finished his career with 7,639yds, 53td, 35int Blaine Gabbert was selected 10th. he finished his career with 6,822yds, 40td, 18int Christian Ponder was slected 12th. he finished his career with 6,872yds, 49td, 30int Geno Smith. Finished his career with 11,662yds, 98td, 21int I'm not even going to discuss Luck, RGIII, or Cam Newton, b/c you can argue that they were all essentially "no-brainers" to go in top 3-5 (for the most part) going into the draft and you can also argue that they were all thought of in higher regard than Geno Smith. However, no one can sit here and tell me that Ponder, Gabbert, Locker, or Tannehill came out of college with more potential than Geno, but yet they were all drafted in the top 12. You want to argue that stats don't mean anything? Whatever. Physical tools and potential in this year's class? Geno STILL wins. Whether or not he actually succeeds at the next level, who the heck knows. But guys, he'll be gone in the first 10 picks in 2013. So in sum, ya, I wouldn't play in the senior bowl either. -

lol..it's amazing how so many posters go to extremes. "defenses adjusted" to him? he had what amounted to 2 "bad" games (for his standards) this season. His WORST game this season he had a 101 passer rating with 1 TD and 2INT vs kansas state..that was his worst. it took 3 years for defense "to adjust" to him and yet he still put up insane stats this season. No QB will ever succeed on these boards..one day they're great, the next they're 3rd round fodder. Geno Smith, unless he completely BOMBS his pro day, curses one of the coaches off during his interview, or runs a 40 second 40 at the combine, will be drafted in the top 10 in this draft. The risk/reward with this guy is too good to ignore. There are no more Jamarcus Russel contracts for rookies. You guys are loco. Clemson D was not bad. He had a combine 437yds, 4TD and 0 INT vs. iowa st. and cuse. hardly "shutting" down. unless he must throw for 4td every single game to be worthy of a #8 pick. -

I've watched him in about prob 5? games over the past two years or so..i've watched him enough to know that he has the best skillset out of the QB's coming out this year. his fundamentals can be a bit shaky and he can be inconsistent with some of his deep throws but we can sit here and go through EVERY QB in this draft and nitpick about them. none of the QBs in this draft are flawless. we pick at #8 and not #1, i still say that if he falls to #8 i would take him and it would be an easy choice. The big 12 isn't the SEC but it's a legit conference. -

from 2010 - 2011, had 65% completion percentage and 55TD to 14 int. in 2012, first 5 games completed 81.4% of passes with a 24td to 0int ratio. he struggled a bit down the stretch, but lets not make him out to be as a player "with a lot to prove". -

considering so many teams in front of us need a QB, i doubt that he will be there when we pick at #8. that being said, if he is there at #8, it would be a complete no-brainer to draft him. i'm not absolutely in love with Geno, but he's the best QB available imo in this draft. -

Bills hire Mike Pettine of the Jets as DC???
bobobonators replied to LiterateStylish's topic in The Stadium Wall Archives
Coach Rex Ryan confirmed defensive coordinator Mike Pettine will not be back with the Jets next season. Ryan's job is safe through the 2013 season, but he's pressing on without OC Tony Sparano, GM Mike Tannebaum and Pettine -- whose contract expired after the 2012 season. Pettine is interviewing for the Bills' defensive coordinator position Tuesday. Meanwhile, the Jets are expected to promote secondary coach Dennis Thurman to the defensive coordinator position. "I don't think I've done as good a job of implementing who I am throughout this team," Ryan said. "I want physical, aggressive, attack style." -

Mingo, Jones, Moore, Werner, or Milliner. ONE of them will be there when we draft and we better scoop him up.
-
yup, nothing made me happier than seeing hot-head kelly's face turning purple on the sidelines. clown.
-
at least you and i are in agreement in our sigs! BJOOOOOERN!!!!! I"d be willing to take a gamble on Jarvis Jones
-
Te'o cost himself mucho dinero with this performance..two clearly missed tackles on biggest stage and alabama running it right up ur gut = late 1st round pick. Roll !@#$ing TIDE!!! At the end of the day, Bjoern Werner is best defensive player in draft and Jarvis Jones is best LB for my money

You can laugh all you want but you clearly don't watch much football. Mario Williams played OLB for the texans before he came to buffalo, making the switch from a DE - i believe he had something like 6 sacks in 5 games before going down with an injury. And you dismiss Dareus and his sacks from last season as nothing, but he was more dominant lining up in the 3-4 last season than he was this year in the 4-3..whether you want to blame this season on his brother's death or the change in scheme i dunno, but the fact remains: Mario, Anderson, Dareus, KW have ALL played in a 3-4 and been SUCCESSFUL. -

wow dude, you're so off on everything that what's the point? What have I seen from Anderson at OLB? really? I watch the NFL. Do you watch the NFL? Do you know who Mark Anderson is? http://www.patspulpit.com/2012/3/11/2862659/patriots-free-agents-2012-mark-anderson Going into FA he was pretty much listed as a hybrid OLB/DE on every sports site. -
