  1. I hear ya. Rip on me all you want (ryan), but I'd prefer the following combo: QB from the draft/Fitz over Smith/QB from this year's draft. Let Fitz compete with the drafted rookie and let the best man start the season next year. If Fitz gets the nod and we're under .500 after 5 games or so, switch to the rookie if he's ready. If the rookie looks impressive prior to the season, start the rookie. It'll be a lot easier to switch from Fitz to a rookie QB b/c Fitz has already been here. This is assuming Fitz is willing to restructure his contract a bit..
  2. i'm all for drafting a QB. Fitz is what he is, we've all seen that for 3 years now. Bring in Alex Smith and we have what, another 3-4 years to see that he's not the answer either? No thanks. Plus, why would Alex Smith want to come to Buffalo where the situation will probably the same as it was in SF when we draft a QB this year. I just don't see it at all. At least with Fitz, if he restructures his contract, I can see him being a backup and not rocking the boat in the long-term. I don't see Alex Smith quietly taking a backseat again.
  3. Pick to Cromartie was absolutely horrible. I agree. Pick against titans - the call was worse than the play. But do you think the 49ers defense lets the Titans drive the field to actually take the lead? I think not. Pick in the end zone vs. the Pats - how many times did the 49ers make Smith HAVE to throw 3-4tds in a game just to have a shot at winning? This goes back to my point vs. Fitz having to play above his head to pull out wins vs. Smith just going with the flow and not screw things up. Smith would come to the Bills and have a considerable downgrade in talent. You think throwing for 15td's in a season would put us at 8-8 when a defense is giving up 28pts a game? Even with fewer INT's than Fitz, the numbers just won't add up. Smith would be required to play above his level in order to keep up with opposing teams and Smith would be exploited much the same way Fitz has been.
  4. Smith, who the 49ers couldn't get rid of prior to harbaugh arriving, took the 49ers to the nfc championship game. remove Smith, and insert a QB who never played before, and the 49ers are in the nfc championship again. It's Harbaugh. Smith has an all-pro TE, an elite O-line, all-pro RB, better WR than the Bills, and a top 5 defense. What did Smith have to do in SF? Simply not lose the game. What did Fitz have to do in buffalo? Try to put up as many points as possible. I think it's unfair to say that if we insert Smith on the bills last season, we go 8-8. Now if someone wants to trade for Smith AND Harbaugh in a package deal, i'm all for that..
  5. lol..could you imagine that reaction in a bar? he'd get laid out.
  6. i agree with other posters w/ respect to a concern on his W/L record especially considering the conference he played in..
  7. i wouldn't be opposed to a stud OL. give even an average QB 5-6 seconds to throw and he'll rip an opposing defense apart.
  8. JARVIS JONES http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=MJsBr8HqsEA If a team is able to get a solid 8 years or so out of this guy, he'd be definitely worth a top 10 pick. Could you imagine Pettine utilizing this guy?
  9. To me the difference between Fitz and Smith is minimal. Its amazing what coaching can do isn't it? Kaep replaces Smith and SF is back where they were last year. Can we trade for Harbaugh?
  10. Smith is an upgrade over Fitz if we can bring Harbaugh with him as well, b/c Smith pre Harbaugh is not better than any QB in this league. And in addition to Harbaugh, maybe we can bring some other players along with Smith, like vernon davis, crabtree, the entire O-line and willis.
  11. lmao...ya on rotoworld Appearing on FOX NFL Sunday, Jay Glazer said the Jets "can't give the position away" when talking about their general manager vacancy. "They're calling back candidates who already turned them down," added Glazer. "Their cap situation, personnel, QB and the circus turned a lot of candidates off." One of those candidates could be 49ers director of player personnel Tom Gamble, who was once considered the odds-on-favorite for the job but may have spurned the Jets. ESPN's Adam Schefter mentioned earlier on Sunday that ex-Bears GM Jerry Angelo is a "name to watch."
  12. it's amazing how Bills fans view opposing players with rose-colored glasses and view our own players as garbage. "Alex Smith is more accurate than Fitz"; "Alex Smith is much better than what we have"; "I'd rather have Alex Trebek than Fitz" lol (my personal favorite) 1. Alex Smith has a career completion percentage of 59.3. Fitz has a career completion percentage of 59.5 (and Fitz has more attempts, so it's not a fluke)..not that either are great, lol. 2. Alex Smith's best year was 2011: 273/445; 61.3comp%; 3,144yds; 17 td; 5int; QBR: 45.8 Fitz's year this year: 306/505; 60.6comp%; 3,400yds; 24td; 16int; QBR: 45.5 3. Alex Smith has yet to even throw for 20 TD's in a single season in his CAREER. 4. Alex Smith has/had a top 5 defense, an ELITE TE, an ELITE RB, an ELITE OL, and better WR than us...and a genius coach who puts him in a position to win. Boy, that Alex Smith sure is a huge upgrade over Fitz. Lets draft a QB and groom him to lead us for the next decade.
  13. after one of these running QB's has a game like Kaep did yesterday, we all start salivating and 3K threads are created about running QB's. when kaep gets completely OBLITERATED in the open field one day from the blindside and he's out for the count, we'll go back to saying how they're too much of a gamble. extremely mobile QB's like Kaep, Wilson, and RGIII are awesome to watch - you just better have a great backup ready to go at all times.
  14. nothing for nothing, but this guy looks like he has a serious mental condition.
  15. The thought of trading for alex smith certainly isn't unreasonable. I just view it this way: the 49ers are starting their 2nd/3rd round QB (don't remember now what round) over Alex Smith. So the thought of us giving them our 8th pick for their backup qb isn't a good one IMO. I'd maybe consider giving them a 2nd round pick and another conditional pick depending on smiths perfromance. I'd be in favor of that.
  16. no thanks.. We're going to trade down to around #28 from #8 to obtain this? Alex Smith's best season (2011): 273/445; 90.7 rating; 61.3%; 3,144yds; 17td, 5int Fitzpatrick this season: 306/505; 83.3 rating; 60.6%; 3,400yds; 24td; 16int The main difference between the two? We didn't have a top 5 defense and a genius coach who puts his QB in a position to succeed. Lets keep the 8th pick.
  17. You take the best player available in my opinion. I think you have to be careful with thinking that because a few rookie QB's have been very successful in the league that it's now the new trend in the NFL. Wilson stepped into an organization that had already made the playoffs without him - they have an AWESOME defense and a great running game. Kaep stepped into an organization that had already made the playoffs as well - they have an AWESOME defense and a great running game. RGIII is an elite talent much the same way Cam is. The skins made the playoffs but the Panthers haven't. Luck is a once in a generation type player. I'm just hesitant to think that this is some kind of new trend where the norm is to expect IMMEDIATE success from a rookie QB. I think we would be setting ourselves up for disaster as fans. Players like Dalton, Flacco, RGIII, Luck, Kaep, Wilson etc have all been successful. Players like Ponder (I don't care if he made the playoffs), Tannehill, Gabbert, Locker, Sanchez, McCoy, Quinn, Freeman, Clausen etc. have struggled. at the end of the day it's a crapshoot. the 49er's obviously didn't think that Kaep was their "franchise guy" b/c they didn't take him at #7 that year...seahawks no way in hell thought Wilson was their guy in the 3rd round..same thing with the bengals when they took Dalton in the 2nd. They all took the best player available with their initial picks and then took the best player available again in the later rounds. Difference between them and us is that their gms/coaches/scouts were smart/lucky and we weren't.
  18. Quite honestly, your post is absurd man.
  19. is it just me, but i can't stop thinking of a christmas story, "be sure to drink your ovaltine" whenever i hear ogletree.
  20. i think it's important to note that this is NOT a mock. Kiper is telling you who he thinks the best players are regardless of a team's needs. Kiper's mock would probably look much different, with 1 or 2 QB's sprinkled in the top 10. my wishlist at #8 would be Bjoern Werner, Jarvis Jones, Mingo, or Geno.
  21. I agree with this. from what i recall, KW was playing pretty well in the 3-4.
