??? He did play and had us within 1 score late in the 4th quarter against the pats. The momentum was on our side up until that 3rd and 16. You should focus your anger towards the unit that allowed tom brady to throw for close to 400yds with 4td's.

Interesting whispers around the league

Id be afraid of hiring a coach who has been out of the game as long as gruden and cowher. Id personally want nothing to do with dungy as hes getting older and we dont have peyton manning. I think theres absolutely nothing wrong with getting a college HC to coach and it has been proven in NFL to be effective in recent years. Where we made the error was getting a coaching staff from a college program thats not elite. Harbaugh, kelly, carroll all came from elite college programs and they were successful there. Our coaches came from a horrible college football program and they were average there. Just my opinion. -
All i know is that when we go down +10 points with Orton at QB im not praying for a miracle to happen for us to get back in the game bc god knows EJ is only good for 1 td a game. NOTHING against Ej, but this offense moves up and down the field exponentially better with Orton.

I just dont buy the sky is falling sentiment among many here. We lost vs the pats not the jags. Yes it sucks. Yes we need to beat the pats eventually to overcome a franchise mental hurdle. We were within one score of the pats late in the 4th quarter. We didnt get blown out 45-3. We need to move on. We're 3-3 with games coming up vs the vikings and the jets. Both very winnable games. -
Exactly. Last time i checked mediocre is better than bad, which is what EJ was. Whats the alternative right now? Nothing. This type of post is reminiscent of the Gailey years. After a week where the opposing qb throws for 361yds and 4TD, heres a thread about our QB not being good enough.

If we lose against both the Vikings and jets marrone might as well pack his bags

I agree about bringing nothing to the table. How often do we even put players in motion? This offense has 0 creativity. Its a wonder we manage to put up +20pts. -
Which Bills units, players let team down most versus Pats?
bobobonators replied to mdk's topic in The Stadium Wall Archives
We cant run the ball 40x a game when theres no creativity in running game. Our guards arent good enough to dominate anyone either. This team may be better suited to set up the run by passing a bit more. -

The only difference in those two plays u describe is that Brady was hit on the non passing hand which absorbed the brunt of the force before Hughes' arm hit brady's passing hand. Had he made contact with his passing hand first that wouldve been a clear fumble. Watch the replay again to see what im talking about. Sometimes luck is necessary. -
We play against the vikings and jets and then go into bye. If we go into bye at 5-3 id be ECSTATIC. But we also cant dismiss this loss. The inability of this team to beat the pats is embarrassingly bad.

In my opinion, after 2 weeks the move to Orton has been CLEARLY the right move. The guy came on off the street and has thrown for basically back to back 300yd games after EJ never threw a single 300yd game in a season and a half. Orton should still improve a bit once he gets more reps with starters. -

This thread should be renamed: official NH doesnt know how to call a sweep, screen, or misdirection play. Every run play goes up the middle - our weakest link on offense arguably. -

Yeah man, im with you. I have no idea how someone who watched that game comes out saying we were able to run the ball. We pretty much abandoned the run as the game went on. We shouldve abandoned the run earlier IMO. I formation run up the middle is all NH apparently knows how to call for a run -
Kyle Orton is the only reason we were even in the game in 4th quarter. EJ and his 150yd passing game wouldve been awesome to watch.

Like others stated: a total team effort in suckiness today. 1. Turnovers 2. Penalties 3. Coaching How many times does NH call a run play right up the middle in a standard run formation? 80% 90% of the time? Orton took a while to get going but once he did he was pretty damn good. As the game went on we went away from the run and started passing it more and it was successful too. We wasted way too many plays in first half just running it into woods butt - as has been the case during most of NH tenure. Its almost as if it takes NH an entire half to get warmed up with his playcalling. The defense was awesome in 1st half and AWEFUL second half. Clearly pats made adjustments at half and improved tempo and passing game was more effective. We never blitzed. Brady sat back there and had a day. Same crap we see every year for last decade plus. Im so sick of it. We didnt play smart today. Duke williams made hotrible penalty in end zone. He couldve had int if he just turned around for the ball. He was horrible all game really. Glenn got beat on a couple of plays and looked average. Spiller had a bonehead fumble which just gave the pats more momentum/points before half. Chandler was best player today. By far. Just a bad loss because with all the GARBAGE play we had we were still only down 1 score late in the 4th quarter. This game couldve been won if our heads were in it and we played smarter. -

Lets try this 1st down: run for 4 yds 2nd down: run for 4yds 3rd down: pass incomplete 4th down: punt or 1st down: pass incomplete 2nd down: run for 7yds 3rd down: run for 2yds (4.5 avg in 2 runs) 4th down: punt Your argument isn't empirical b/c i can play the same silly game as there are thousands of variables in a drive. 5.0ypc is 5.0ypc. End of story. It's awesome to be able to consistently gain positive yardage on runs like freddie does - it's also frustrating when you can't have big plays. -

Improved quite a bit as in: going from 3.8ypc to 5.2ypc. CJ was only given 107 carries. Do you want him to rack up yards when he's on the sideline too? -

Do you have empirical evidence that method is not as effective at producing scores in a game? Or is this just anecdotal? 5.0ypc is 5.0ypc anyway you slice it and dice it. -

In all seriousness, I just don't understand the CJ hate. The guy has been a class act (as far as i'm aware) in buffalo. the bills drafted him in first round and then rarely utilized him his first season. Then CJ improves quite a bit his second season and goes BONKERS his 3rd season, and the HC, OC are gone and an entirely new offensive scheme that apparently doesn't know how to call a run play that's not an iformation running in right into Wood's butt. -

bobobonators replied to Big C's topic in The Stadium Wall Archives
For as bad as some of you say he is, he still has a career average of 5.0 ypc (higher than Fred's 4.5). There's no reason why CJ can't be targeted in the passing game more than 2x per game. -
he's what i imagined the guy in the "fun chat with a lions fan..." looks like. d-bag. This practice is very popular in european soccer matches - hopefully it doesn't start catching on over here. so dumb and potentially dangerous.

Im not saying anything negative about Fred. Hes a beast. This convo isnt about him. Its strictly about CJ and how his skillset can be bestbutilized to benefit this offense the most. Of course woodhead has also been successful between the tackles to a certain extent as well but thats not the skillset that teams like the chargers and pats coveted about him. How many times do you see woodhead run it up the middle in standard run formations? Its rare. Hes always been lined up all over the field creating mismatches, in addition to being a feature back to run between the tackles - many times on a draw play.
