Defensive Rankings After 10 Weeks
bobobonators replied to TheBillsWillRiseAgain's topic in The Stadium Wall Archives
Those #'s are awesome. Lets hope they continue vs. GB, NE, & Den. -
haha, yeah you're 100% correct. My feeling on Glenn is exactly as you describe but when there's money involved, who knows how the player/agent will react. You know his agent?
-
As for franchise tags, the player I'd probably tag in the near future would be Glenn. Extend Hughes and Dareus and tag Glenn. For whatever reason, I don't see that much drama with glenn. Anyone know who Glenn's agent is? I agree with you re: other teams but that's the problem with the Bills - they lack a successful institutional history of success in this respect. So if we start playing the game of tagging Dareus - as high price a FA as they'll come, it's going to probably breed serious doubt in the player that the team will eventually pony up and extend him, whereas other teams have been more willing to shell out the $$$ to retain their own high priced FA's after they've been tagged. That's the situation I'd want to avoid. Everyone in the locker room had to go through the entire Byrd fiasco and it wasn't pretty for 2 years so I'm not sure how much confidence there would be on the part of the player. That being said, we have new ownership now so it's a new ballgame.
-
Great responses man. It's going to be interesting to see what happens. In your opinion, should we franchise him or just bite the bullet after this season and pay the man despite him having 1 year left. I'm still bitter about the entire Byrd fiasco. In retrospect, it worked out for us, but the way it went down was very ugly. I don't want to relive that again. I don't want to relive Jason Peters again either.
-
It would be AWESOME Kirby. Our D-line can be like the Giants D-line a few years back where all they had to do was simply sneak into the playoffs and then DOMINATE the playoffs. Many will disagree, but we can sneak into the Playoffs with Orton at QB. Maybe not this year b/c this year of course, every single team apparently has a winning record in the AFC. But with Orton at QB, maybe solidify the OL a tad more through the draft/development of our rookies, and orton can win us 10 games with Watkins and this DLine. I want opposing offenses to piss themselves at the very thought of having to play us. Heck, I know Tannehill wet himself just now at the thought.
-
So you're saying we have a chance. lol. All kidding aside, if we can somehow manage to keep Hughes and Dareus, enabling us to have MW, KW, MD, and JH it would give this team an identity for the next few years. KW is 31. MW is 29 going on 30 so you figure the two only have 2 MAYBE 3 good years left where this D-line can absolutely DOMINATE. Dareus and Hughes could be the present and the future. Dareus is 24 and Hughes is 26 - Hughes just entered his prime and Dareus is just starting to tap his potential. But picture this: Lets say we franchise Dareus 1 year and then don't resign him. In 3 years the only piece left from this Dline may be? Nobody. Best case, we'd have a 33 year old MW. We can't let that happen folks. Keep Hughes and Dareus at ANY cost. I'm 100% in agreement with you on a personal level. Just playing devil's advocate again though for Dareus (b/c you know this is going to happen with his agent): I understand my client is a DT and not a DE, but my client puts up DE numbers at the DT position. How many DT in the NFL post +15 sacks? (lets assume Dareus drops off a bit and finishes with 15 sacks). My client wants to be the highest paid defensive player in the NFL. His skill-set is unmatched at the position. He hasn't even entered his prime yet.

It wasnt just the screen. And a dozen times in 9 games isnt all that much when we'e run the same HB dive a dozen times in a single game in the past. -
In my opinion applying the franchise tag not once but twice to Dareus would be an unmitigated disaster. This franchise does not have an institutional history of keeping their own high-price FA so franchising Dareus would not be reassuring at all for him. A one-time franchise tag maybe. But twice? No way. I dont want to relive Byrd.

I feel when its all said and done Suh will get paid more than McCoy and Dareus will get paid more than all. Suh is 3 years older than Dareus. Let me repeat this for my client: he is 24yrs old and is on pace to break the single season sack record at the DT position. Mccoy and Suh's numbers are comparable to my client's - if you combine them together that is.
-
The Haynesworth comparison is scary. On the flip side of that, it would be a kick in the nuts to let Dareus walk and he becomes the next Sapp, if not better.
-
I'm sure the management in Foxborough would appreciate my client's services. I hear the Jets also have a lot of cap room - maybe I'll give them a call.
-
I like the negotiation Kirby. I LIKE IT!!! But my client is a DE playing the DT position and is a dual threat vs. the run/pass. McCoy is a nice little player but there's simply no comparison. Dareus has played every single game since being drafted by your team - and has progressed each and every season until WHAM, YOU NOW HAVE THE GOAT AT THE DT POSITION. McCoy has been injury prone and seriously needs to put on some more weight before he steps in my client's shoes. I want 8 years - 110 million - 60million guaranteed. Wow, you're really upsetting my client with this NONSENSE.
-
Is Hoyer better than orton? I'm not sure. And he's actually not that much younger at 29. No thanks. I'd keep Orton.
-
Warren Sapp - arguably best DT of all time. Dareus is on pace to have more sacks than Sapp ever had in a single season. Dareus is on pace to tie the single season sack record for a DT of 18 set by Keith Millard. And the guy is a beast vs. the run. Dareus > McCoy. Pegula better start selling some investments
-
Boy, if we could get Dareus for Mccoy money, I think it will be a bargain. Devils advocate from Dareus' camp: I'm 2 years younger than McCoy, I've played 1 less season than McCoy, yet I have 5 more career sacks. Dareus is going to want more money, I'm sure. I can see the Hali range for Hughes though..
-
Dareus is 1 yr younger than JJ Watt. It's hard to believe b/c if feels Dareus has been around forever now, but the beast is still 24 yrs old. If Dareus continues at this pace (which I'm hoping for), any chance Dareus breaks Watt's record contract? This man-child is having a JJ Watt type season this year and is on pace for almost 20 sacks from the DT POSITION! Dareus is going to blow McCoy's contract out of the water, in my opinion. God (Pegula) help us. Salary geniuses. Break it down for me how we can keep Dareus, MW, Hughes, and KW on this D-line. Looking at KW's contract - man we got a bargain for the production he puts out, and he's still signed through 2016, after which he'll probably be released bc he'll be like 33/34. But back on topic - Will Dareus break Watt's record contract for a defensive player? I'd give Dareus a 10yr contract and keep him as a Bill for life.

Seriously man. Look at any of the fire hackett threads and youll see countless posts from people here calling for exactly what we saw this past sunday. Brown can be a major threat in pass game. -

Haha. Seriously. Considering Marrone's history w Mike and how stubborn Marrone has been in his first 1.5yrs in the league, im not going to hold my breath. -

Also, the fact that it took Marrone so long to plug in Urbik is criminal. This entire board was calling for it for weeks. Marrone is one stubborn SOB. At least he finally made the move but man o man -
It might be time to get Jon Gruden's phone number.

Pretty solid analysis this week. Cant disagree w any of it. A lot of positives to take from that loss. Learn, improve, and move on and beat the living $h*t out of the fins.
