CBS: Rex could be fired, TT benched Monday with loss
bobobonators replied to NoSaint's topic in The Stadium Wall Archives
Then ownership can simply force Rex to not start TT. Again, if the front office does not intend on keeping Rex, then why are we starting TT? What happens if TT gets seriously injured Week 16? Is Whaley going into next season paying TT starter $$ to not be the starter? I'm not arguing one way or another really since I don't personally know what they're thinking, but the fact that the franchise continues to start TT tells me one of the following: 1. Rex is not going to get fired (unless we fail to win another game). 2. The organization intends on picking up the TT option (in conjunction with #1 or even if Rex gets fired). 3. They are waiting to "officially" get eliminated from the playoffs in order to bench TT (to avoid possible injury) and/or fire Rex. 4. The front office has absolutely no clue what they intend to do (which at this point in time, is probably the scariest of the other 3). -

This is what infuriates me b/c it's so like the Bills to do this half-ass BS. It makes zero sense. If the "front office" expects Rex to be gone at the end of the year, then why in high heaven are we starting TT? What is there to gain at this point? Is Whaley part of the "front office"? If so, why in the world would Whaley let Rex start TT?? It's as ass-backwards as it can get. Either go all-in or all-out, but not down the middle. -

I'm sure the discussions have occurred. I'm just thinking out loud here, so it may not come off extremely coherent: If the decision to not pick up the option on TT has already been made (as many apparently believe it has), then why in the world would the Bills start TT vs. the Browns/final 3 weeks. It makes absolutely zero sense (for reasons already discussed) EJ is a Whaley pick. For Whaley, what better opportunity to just let EJ start the final 3 games vs. complete garbage teams without running the risk of TT getting injured and the Bills being on the hook next season for the $$$. Furthermore, with the Bills benching TT, it publicly makes Whaley look that much better for the following reasons: It has been reported/alluded to that Rex wasn't a Whaley choice. Rex brought TT here from his time in Baltimore. TT's benching would further undermine Rex (he already used Roman as a scapegoat) and the firing of Rex and finger pointing by Whaley towards Rex at the end of the season would be that more justifiable. The entire situation seems odd and doesn't make much sense. Maybe the franchise truly has zero intention of firing Rex? Maybe the Bills have made their decision to pick up the option on TT regardless of how the season plays out? Or Maybe the Bills are simply waiting until they're "officially" eliminated from the playoffs to clean house? I have no clue. There are plenty of mixed messages right now coming from OBD. -

So where is the info regarding Rex being fired and TT benched coming from? Apparently its news to Rex and TT. I know its commonly done in the industry to leak a report and then the same source denies the report. Who does everyone think this "source" is? Apparently Pegula never considered firing Rex during the season either. Could it be that they havent made a determination on TT? I agree with you regarding the injury bit. Logically, if the "franchise" (whaley) made a determination on TT playing him with that clause in his contract would instantly cripple the Bills (assuming they dont want TT) and probably get Wnaley fired instantly. The more logical explanation is that aside from the fans losing their proverbial ****, whaley & co still want to see the season through before making a determination, or the decision to KEEP TT has already been made. Whether you think thats right or wrong is another debate altogether. -
Russ Brandon Attends Monday Morning Football Meetings
bobobonators replied to Fadingpain's topic in The Stadium Wall Archives
I think the argument that Russ Brandon should not be in on these meetings is not the right argument. Any managing partner of an NFL franchise should be allowed to be in on conference calls that directly deal with the success/failures of that franchise. The success/failure of a franchise is measured by the teams performance on Sundays. Along the same lines would anyone question why Pegula is in on that meeting? I mean why break down gameday film to Pegula? Is he going to suggest that Rex shouldve called more double A gap blitzes? What is Pegula going to bring to that conversation. Just sign the checks right? Thats not how the business world works. Every healthy, well-run business keeps its directors/managers informed, especially if they want to be. Im glad that that the owner is involved in these weekly meetings and Brandon is allowed to attend as well. But To me the question isnt should Brandon be allowed to attend these meetings. The question should strictly be: should Brandon be employed by the Buffalo Bills at all. -
Andy Reid was the executive vice president of football ops in Philly. Its not unheard of.
-
Im not saying that JH should be bogged down in the minutiae of being a GM. BB and Carroll for example call the shots. Carroll was the vice president of football operations and though Schneider has an active voice in personnel decisions, its Carroll that makes the final call. Not the other way around. With BB its Nick Caserio who serves as his right hand man and is the director of player personnel. BB has the last word. Give JH the same authority as a Pete Carroll by making him "ABC of Football Operations" title while having someone else assist him. The buck should stop with JH though. And not the other way around. Yeh thats a sore spot.

I dont have anything to back me up when it comes to Harbaugh's GM abilities in the NFL. However, being that Harbaugh is a control freak I'd assume the only chance anyone has to pull Jim away from Michigan would be to give him the $$$ AND power. If he doesnt have full autonomy i can see him bouncing after 2-3 yrs once him and the GM butt heads. And they will butt heads. If Harbaugh and a GM can coexist than sure that would be ideal. But someone like Harbaugh needs to run the show. Chip cant shake $h*t when it comes to coaching ability relative to Harbaugh. Harbaugh dominated as a coach in the NFL already. Chip hasnt.
-
Exactly. Harbaugh's coaching abilities are above reproach. In my opinion, there are maybe a handful of coaches in this entire country (college and NFL) that you can clearly say are a better option than Harbaugh.
-
His coaching record at Stanford, SF, and now Michigan is undeniable. Instant credibility. Im personally tired of going and hiring either unproven entities or entities proven at either sucking or being avg. Just my opinion. Complete autonomy.
-
No comment.
-
Harbaugh is coming back to the NFL everntually. He tasted success in the NFL (unlike other great college coaches who couldnt make it in the NFL) and hes not going to stay in Michigan forever. I think he makes $9m now. Give him FULL AUTONOMY. Blank check Pegula. BLANK CHECK. (Figure out what kind of wine he likes first)

10yrs / $100million Outside of the hoodie and maybe carroll, there is no better HC and football mind around. Burn the house down. Napalm it. Let Harbaugh rebuild it from scratch. Get 'er done!!!

CBS: Rex could be fired, TT benched Monday with loss
bobobonators replied to NoSaint's topic in The Stadium Wall Archives
The Buffalo News reports Bills owner Terry Pegula is opposed to the idea of firing Rex Ryan in-season. The report suggests Ryan will keep his job for the final three weeks, but his status following the season is considerably murkier. Ryan could certainly point to injuries, especially on offense, as a reason for his team arguably underperforming, but the Bills have once again been a mistake-filled and inconsistent squad this year. He will likely be shown the door on Black Monday. -
Important: TT's contract IS guaranteed for injury
bobobonators replied to dave mcbride's topic in The Stadium Wall Archives
Agreed. The only way i see Rex staying is if he agrees to let go of his grip on the defensive gameplan and lets Whaley bring in a d-coordinator that probably has nothing in common with Rex's defensive philosophy. But I dont see that happening. In my opinion, the decision of whether or not to keep Rex has nothing to do with Tyrod and the offense. Before we even approach the Tyrod issue, the franchise needs to figure out what its going to do with its HC. Everything after that will probably fall in line. Imo. -

bobobonators replied to dave mcbride's topic in The Stadium Wall Archives
Great thread. I think it comes down to the following: is rex staying? If we're going to fire rex and heaven forbid TT gets injured these last 3 weeks that means the new coach is going to be forced to deal with TT. If im a prospective new coach i dont want limitations on my roster choices, especially at QB. Its just too much of a gamble to start TT if the organization intends to move on from Rex. -
The entire team has disappeared. When a team goes downhill across the board: offense, defense, AND special teams, its on coaches 100%. Every coach needs to be fired. No one on this staff needs to be here anymore.
-
I cant believe ive watched this team for +30yrs and i was fooled yet again. Ive kepts saying the arrow was pointing up for this franchise overall. I dont know what to think. Ill say this: if we are to fire Rex, everyone needs to go. Whaley, Russ, and Rex. Im tired of half-assing it with the head coaches. We need to hold those people who hire the HC accountable. Any person with any involvement in actual football operations needs to go. Napalm it.
-
Agreed. As to why we're 6-6, plenty of blame can go around. Lets see how the season finishes and where we stand as a team, and then look at the defense/offense. Right now, if a third party came and analyzed our team they would easily see the following: 25% of our team salary is dedicated to 4 players on defense: Dareus, Hughes, Gilmore, and Kyle Williams. 25%. Our team is led by a defensive coach, and the highest paid players on this team are on defense. Yet, the defense is vastly underperforming. They rank in the bottom half in red zone defense and in the bottom half in points per game against. Meanwhile, the offense is underpaid, and over performing. The offense is top 10 in points scored and top 10 in the red zone. We'll see how things play out the final 4 games.

Tom Melton on Tyrod Taylor. Perfect analysis.

Someone should post a scouting report of our defense and see what it says. And then add up the $$$ thats tied into the defense and formulate a value based on production for that unit. TGIF! -
TNF: Actual frozen tundra for Chefs-Raiders

Maybe theres more to Carr sucking in cold weather than I originally thought... -
You cant let the past (at least not 15yrs ago) affect your analysis of the present. If we go .500 or above itll be another season of not being in the playoffs but certainly being competitive. You start stringing some of those seasons around for a few years and the loser mentality starts to go away. You know you have a chance. You start to believe it. Now if under the same regime we go backwards to 6-10 or 5-11 then id say panic should start creeping in. Jauron's teams could never get over the 7-9 hump. Thats the closes we've come to stability in Buffalo in over a decade..until Whaley took over. Whaley has brought more respectability to the Bills than we've had in a long time. A lot of non-bills fans dont laugh at the current Bills like they did in the past. We've started earning some respect under Whaley. Our next hump we need to get over on a consistent basis will be the 9-7 mark. I believe Whaley will get us there.

All 21 pts for KC came in 8min of the game. So much for winded defenses. -
