"Their" first thought. More like one guys first thought. My first thought was the choice of Waltz was logical and therefore expected. As they're attempting to create the illusion that Kamala is suddenly a moderate, moving her unknown views to this point to pick off the vote of the middle of the political spectrum. It only makes sense they pick somebody to back fill the hole that ruse leaves to the left of the new Harris to placate the far-left. No way they'd pick Shapiro because he's a Jew as suddenly that core and reliable constituency of the Democratic party is unwelcome, except on election days of course.

Getting to Know Kamala and Her Successes in Office

All anyone needs to know is the same people singing the praises of VP Harris are the same folks that told us Joe Biden was "as sharp as a tack". Up until the point they were instructed to no longer believe that story. So remain skeptical. -
Becky's thinking where is Kyle Rittenhouse when you need him because the police and the government are concerned with protecting the rioters and certainly not her.

Unburdening myself by what has been and what will be

Trump cannot be allowed to win return to the White House. Listen to them. By declaring that, Democrats have pledged to fight to save democracy even if it means overruling the will of the voters in November. Essentially saying even if he wins a free and fair election they won't allow it. Doesn't sound so democratic does it? -

I don't think its over. We'll get the typical bounce at the open but I don't think the average close up today. If the Fed doesn't meet expectations of some inter-meeting rate cut before their September meeting you can bet the farm the market is going to throw another big downside temper tantrum. I'm holding lots of cash now along with some patience to wait it out. -
Who's Running The Executive Branch?

its a new game liberal western governments are playing as they turn the abilities of their intelligence services inward to identify threats to the government from critics and other malcontents rather than what was traditionally a focus on external threats to protect State secrets and citizens from harm from attacks along with conducting misinformation campaigns among our enemies. Today those misinformation campaigns are targeted to the country's citizens.. Terrorists blowing you up? Not a concerns for the government. You complaining about terrorists blowing you up? A big concern. -
I understand through the wave of the party's marketing team's magic wand Kamala has been transformed into a moderate. I assume this is also positively truth and above questioning rather than some slick marketing ploy to deceive the voters in the middle to cast their votes for her. And why risk questioning this since you'll be called a racist, or a misogynist, or accused of being threatened by a strong women

Most of this is irrelevant. The disagreement is over the risk vs. reward assessment and the cost in cash and material with intervention in Ukraine. You and others, and many in our government discount the risk of escalation into a regional conflict with Russia. And over-state benefits. Driven by an absurd belief Putin's goal is to re-assemble the former Soviet Union. Russia has neither the economic or military might to pull that off. They know it, we know it. But the idea sells well here with the simpletons. Another problem is there's not a lot of critical thinking when it comes to assessing Washington's interventions, past and present. The record is at best incomplete and more likely a failure. It certainly can't be characterized as a succes. The policy is a relic from a time long since gone. Historical performance suggests we come out on the losing end here, again. What was last time the neoliberal/neocon war hawks actually won a war they supported, I don't know. As for the supporting democracy angle that's a ruse. If anything is comical that's it. Washington supports and tolerates many monarchies and dictatorships when it's convenient and suits their needs. Look no further than oil rich Middle Eastern kingdoms for an example of such an interest.

Your characterization of Kamala couldn't be further from reality. She's somebody with little talent or smarts that's been riding the gravy train of political patronage and identity politics to rise to the pinnacle of incompetence.

Yeah these people are strange and I'd never personally be caught dead looking like this. But the thing is, so called MAGA people are weird because they wear costumes and branded merchandise to attend political rallies or make political statements. You're liberal and woke weirdo does it because its a lifestyle choice. Its who they actually believe they are. Its their every day persona. That's not only weird but demonstrates mental illness.

I think the saying is something like "when your enemy is in the process of making a huge blunder don't interrupt them". -
Congress is free to take up any legislative action or the President can propose laws to remedy any shortcomings you identify or other issues. But the executive branch shouldn't just issue decrees and rulings at the whim of the President and his political constituents or his favored special interests along with the administrative bureaucracy.

You must have missed the DEI lesson were the woke instructors blame one specific group of people for everything and everyone else is a victim of colonization and oppression or some other nonsense. You guys all buy this crap and ask no questions like obedient children. And were the tards. Okay then. -

They'll do what they always do. I expect the President's working group on markets reporting into the Treasury is in emergency session this morning. The slang term for this group is the Plunge Protection Team. They're do the usual, save those rich hedge fund and billionaire political donors with the Fed flooding the markets with liquidity and maybe doing a surprise 50 point cut in rates. -
I respect your perspective and opinion but another perspective on what the SCOTUS has done is curtail powers of the central government's executive branch and returned the authority they've encroached upon back to the States and Congress. Such as the Chevron defense case where regulators are free to interpret laws and impose legislative like actions on companies and citizens. Reducing the power and authority of the central government over the lives of the citizens enhances freedoms. It does not reduce them. If there's one concerning theme from my view over the past few decades is the encroachment of the executive branch on the authorities and powers of Congress, the courts, and the States. The real divide isn't left or right but rather people that support more federal control vs. people that want to reduce the power of the central government.

Or what we're doing now. Grow the deficit, increase government spending on useless projects, centralize more power and control with a dysfunctional federal government that hinders private business and industry, import 10 million dependents on social assistance, pretend the economy is in great shape, deny all reality, then act surprised and blame somebody else when the dumpster fire starts.. We've reached the dumpster fire stage right on schedule. -
Having no firsthand observations at my disposal I can only go on news and information sources I have at my disposal. Viewing from afar one theme I see repeated is government doesn't address crime issues and problems associated with immigrants. They seem more concerned with punishing people reacting to criminal acts than finding and holding the perpetratorators responsible. Transforming them into the victim somehow. And as for providing any information to the public, forget it. I think we have the same problem on both sides of the Atlantic. That being government will do everything possible to avoid transparency and rather is concerned with suppressing criticism. This is an authoritarian traint not one of representative democracies. Unfortunately, absent facts people tend to make their own.

What motive did the suspect have to attack children?

Harris is going to run the 2024 version of Biden's successful 2020 basement strategy. Keep out of sight, redefine her as a moderate, avoid taking any firm positions on issues (other than abortion), and let political surrogates and the captive media campaign for her along with broadcasting constant negative messages about the opposition. And hope it works again. Once elected assume the Presidency for Obama's 4th term.
-
All Trump needs to do is stick with attacking this administrations record and point out Harris presents nothing new beyond thst record of failure. The country is in worse shape now than it was in 2019. Prices have risen 20-25 percent on average. Crime us up. Consumers are stressed, etc. Avoid the personal attack stuff. Stick to facts and figures. But we all know he won't because that is who he is and that's just turns off voters.

More weapons won't do much good without troops to use them. Zelensky needs to increase conscription or coerce men of military age that fled the country to return. Neither is likely or popular. Otherwise, the only path to victory at this point is direct NATO or US intervention. Given other areas of potential conflict I can't see the administration or the Pentagon supporting that commitment. What the Europeans might do is up to them but direct intervention would be unpopular and costly. The most likely path will be some deal which cedes the ethnic Russian provinces or grants them complete independence from Kiev. Crimea will likely remain in Rusian possession. As it's been for hundreds of years before Kruschev transfered it to Ukraine in the 1950's. Ukraine will be granted EU membership. What happens with NATO membership, not sure. Like it or not that looks like what's going to happen.

Getting to Know Kamala and Her Successes in Office

If you're familiar with the hiring process and interviewing prospective job hires, all this feigning of praise is equivalent to the art of resume writing where job candidates tout themselves with god-like skills and experience. But upon inspection it proves to be much different. There's nothing extraordinary about Harris. It's all fake. -

Like the Pretorian Guard surrounded and protected the Emperor, the American media has set up a parameter around VP Harris. It's the equivalent of Joe Biden's successful basement strategy during the 2020 COVID campaign which proved quite effective. "Playing not to lose the game" is a term most should be familiar with here and hoping the other guy makes the big mistakes is the strategy once again. She gets a nice bounce here, but I think an economy sinking into the stretch and difficult challenges internationally are serious headwinds for her campaign. A Fed rate cut in September might be too little too late and this week's decision to not cut rates is a major policy blunder which I expect will lead to a nasty market crash into the fall. Then all those crowing about how Biden has helped their 401K balances will be hit by the lightning bolt of reality. All other issues aside, as Jame Carville said years ago, "its the economy stupid"!
