Did We just pick O.J. Jr. ?
Mr. ChumChums replied to Bufcomments's topic in The Stadium Wall Archives
Haha good one. -
I hate using this word, but I think Dan Williams will be a terrible reach at 9. I think he'll be the equivalent to the OTHER DW that we drafted a bit too high...Donte... solid, but extremely unspectacular, and sure as hell not worth the pick we paid for him.

True, but as appreciative as I am of his information, I can't help but feel a little paranoid . The thing I want most out of all of this is for the Bills to really succeed. And to answer your question, the revelation that they prefer Williams or Okung over Bulaga for starters (not really groundbreaking, but still, information that COULD be used against the Bills, nonetheless). Say if Williams AND Bulaga are on the board at #8, and the Bills really want Williams, and don't want Bulaga. And for the sake of example, Dallas knows this, and really wants Williams as well, over Bulaga. They could trade with Oakland, knowing that after the Bills pick, Williams will no longer be there. Just hypothetical, and a little far-fetched, but still, a possible outcome.

I really worry about NGU broadcasting such information out on the web, where anyone, from a draft strategist from another team, to a reporter, can access it. Draft strategies are supposed to be the most closely guarded secrets of a team, because if you know how another team is going to draft, you know exactly when you would need to trade up to grab a player they had an intent on grabbing, wait to grab someone later, etc... In other words, the only thing it would do to the Bills by broadcasting this knowledge is hurt them, and I worry that this information will inevitable come bite us in the ass again. Let's not get too greedy and start asking for more...because I think enough is enough.

I think at this point, they're tired of making moves for the sake of ticket sales. They want to really develop a winning team, through proper growth and management. Nix and Gailey shouldn't care about ticket sales. That's Russ's job, and he is no longer involved in the actual FOOTBALL aspects of the team...only the operations and marketing. He doesn't control the FO anymore. So I will respectfully disagree with your moves, and say that they WON'T be doing any of them. Just my guess. -
Bills NOT interested in Rapelisberger
Mr. ChumChums replied to Jerry Jabber's topic in The Stadium Wall Archives
As much as I agree with this, (and I do), I think it misses the main point that Big Ben is still an immature douchebag, and has been called such by the ever loyal Steelers nation. He is NOT someone one would want on their team. It is probably the biggest reason that the Steelers are trying to trade him, and Nix & Whaley are avoiding him. -

Personally think its a great article. Thanks for sharing! -
Well, NFL teams have always ran the spread, but never as a base-offense. Even when Chan was OC/HC, he actually just incorporated several spread formations into the offense. And Chan doesn't run the spread normally. He tailors his offense to the strengths of its personnel. That's what he's known for. The reason it hasn't been introduced as a base offense in the NFL is because defenders are too fast in the NFL, and would typically blow up most plays in a base spread offense. Not quite like college, where everyone is open.

I'm with you here. Although, I do believe that it's a question of maturity, over anything. If Whaley or Nix believe that Ben is NOT mature enough, then it's a wash, and they make the right decision (as are the Steelers for trying to trade him). Additionally, in regards to your comment on Ben being the leader of the impressionable youth on our team, I agree with you there as well. However, what if we already DID have a passionate veteran leader on our team, a-la Ray Lewis? Then BR would only play his role as a QB, and not as a team leader. Granted...being a QB somewhat forces you to be a leader...at least on the offensive side of the ball... Moot point really. +1 -
In all fairness, NONE of us know what really happened. What we DO know is that yes, he is an ass and a douche - from first hand accounts and general consensus around the city of Pittsburgh. Yes, he is a bit immature - shown by the fact that he still parties like a frat boy in nightclubs. Yes, he did have sexual relations with those women. However, how does all this make him an automatic scumbag? The 2 rape and sexual assault allegations? Possibly. However, keep in mind, that for 1 of those, the accusing women's own FRIEND claimed in a signed affidavit that her friend was NOT raped, and that it was COMPLETELY consensual She even goes on to say that her friend wanted to "bump into him again." So here are my thoughts. BR is an immature douche who can't help partying it up in nightclubs getting drunk with women. He takes advantage of his money and his fame, and uses that to help himself get with more girls. However, there is a STRONG possibility that all these allegations are just gold-digging whores going after his money because he gave them a little bit of attention. I'm not saying that'st he case, but it's a possibility. As a recent college graduate, I can understand the appeal of using money and fame to go out with your boys, and hit the clubs, hoping to nail loose drunk women. In fact, I have had my share of those nights (minus the money and fame). However, like most people, I graduated from that lifestyle and understand that as a working professional, I have a responsibility to ACT MY PART. So far, BR has not understood the importance of acting his part. The fame, money, and limelight have seemingly gone to his head. At this point, the only thing that should be a concern of ours, should be his MATURITY. If he truly understands what he must do from this point forward, I say there isn't a question that we should pull the trigger on this deal. However, if that really is the case, then Pittsburgh won't be trying to trade him. If he still DOES have maturity issues, and if our front office still sees him as a maturity risk, then no dice, I don't want him, and neither should anybody else, for more than a 2nd or 3rd rounder. I honestly see Buddy and Chan's actions as messages on what they believe. If they don't want BR, then we have our answer. If they do, then it's all about a new story for the Bills. GO BILLS!

His contract won't even be that much. Most of the bonus money was paid up front by the Steelers. -
Big Ben - potential obscure problem

We would be like Cleveland, except worse. Like when they drafted Brady Quinn, and Derek Anderson came out of nowhere and lit it up for 1 season. -

Well this would be our new Pro Personnel Scout and Assistant GM Doug Whaley's job wouldn't it? To scout other team's players? And he WOULD have some inside knowledge on BR considering he was on the Steelers staff for the past 10 years. -

Why are 3-4 nose tackles so hard to find?
Mr. ChumChums replied to clearwater cadet's topic in The Stadium Wall Archives
Oh man...just imagine what kind of team we would have if our D-Line were all gorillas! Personal foul penalties EVERYWHERE, but no way would that ball ever cross the LOS! -
This is why NGU specifically said he doesn't like giving predictions, and only reporting on facts to you guys...because predictions can be taken completely out of context, and treated as fact. The reason NGU was able to report on the Nix and Gailey signings was because those were pure FACT. Other than that, everything else is really just up in the air. So relax everyone, and let's try to enjoy the draft without worrying about what our insiders are telling us...because honestly, it doesn't matter.

Almost quoted from Bill Parcells himself. I think he said something along the lines of "there's only so many athletic 300 lb monsters out there"...or something like that. -
Granted, the the SackSeeker model is SLIGHTLY misleading in its accuracy of predicting past prospects (like Schobel and Flowers), as it is BUILT off of those numbers. Realistically, it will be just a tad less accurate at predicting sack totals on current/future prospects. But still, better than nothing Interesting to see their take on Derrick Morgan, projecting just slightly above average sack production. Also Pierre-Paul - in line with Buddy's 1-year-wonder theory.
