Well as of right now we draft 6th
Garranimal replied to Kellyto83TD's topic in The Stadium Wall Archives
i like Mike evans a lot. I also like Bryce Petty from Baylor. And if all the QBs are gone, I suspect AJ McCarron falls into the 2nd or third. Hell, i would even look at Conner Shaw...if he can put up with Spurrier, the kid must be mentally tough. -

isn't he a redshirt sophomore -
According to NFL.com: EJ is the 33rd Ranked QB (by conventional QB rating) and Thad is 32nd (79.2 vs. 80.4 respectively). EJ is ranked 35th in yards per game, while Thad is ranked 25th. (197 vs 217.3) EJ is ranked 43rd in completion % while Thad is ranked 32nd. (56.7 vs 60.2) EJ is ranked 36th in avg yards/attempt while Thad is ranked 40th (6.6 vs 6.3) EJ's long completion of the year is 45 yds while Thad's is 47. (Jeff Tuel has a long of 59 by the way) these too, are facts and show little to no separation between these QBs besides their draft positions. Lies, damned lies and statistics!

What to do with TJ Graham?
Garranimal replied to BuffaloBillsForever's topic in The Stadium Wall Archives
I was referring more to drafting a guy in a position no other team valued him at. Again, a player is never defined by where he is drafted, but when the essence of a pick is that we outsmarted the rest of the NFL, trepidation follows in my mind. -

which is exactly why i worry greatly about EJ Manuel. -
Most yards against possibly the best Defense in the NFL....or a top 5 at least. if a game going to 10-10 is when we lost the game, this team has much more serious problems than a rookie inexperienced QB.Look, i am by no means trying to sell Tuel as a franchise savior, but he looked more (and less) in the mold of an NFL QB than i have seen on the bills in a long time. He did some things well, and some things horribly....and that is no surprise given his experience level.

Juice Newton? Is EJ our Angel of the Morning?
-
I think the glaring problem is why you would have a rook QB in his first start throw the ball 38 times when you have the rushing talent that the bills have. This, in my opinion, is expecting whoever is playing QB to run the offense you desire to have rather than tailoring your offense to who you actual have as a signal caller. See Mike Glennon as a good example, most passing attempts for a rookie in his first 4 games ever (i think i heard that).
-
Yeah, i have no idea what he ran in college or if he could pull it off, but when he ran in open space, he looked relatively fast. I might be a little off base on Tuel as a read option guy. But there are read option guys out there that could pull it off.
-
I agree....my point is that with the talent we have on this team which is good run blocking, excellent rbs, and tight ends that arguably are better blockers than receivers....this team should be a read option/spread offense that runs the ball out of the read and goes over the top quite regularly. Thad would be good at this and so would Tuel. Tuel looked to have wheels.....bad scrambling instinct but good speed. Put either of them in a position to actually run effectively with CJ and FJ in the backfield and this team could be made into a time of possession threat against any team. My point is to do what Mike McCoy did with tebow, devise an offense that works to your strengths.....

Ok, now just stop it! Logic and facts have no place on this board.....hold my pitchfork while i light this torch!
-
Well, kinda glad we passed on Freeman...
Garranimal replied to Mike B. in VA's topic in The Stadium Wall Archives
By what standard? In your opinion? This is the problem with most discussions of this kind, opinions stated as facts. There is no factual evidence that Josh Freeman is better than anyone at this point. More experience? Yes, An NFL history by which to make assumptions? Yes. But his year to date performance for this season made him anything but "best available". -
is this board really arguing over a rookie QB with 5 starts who wasn't very good vs a rookie with 2 starts who wasn't very good? Wait, what? This is precisely why the Bills organization deserves a black eye and why being a bills fan is challenging. Neither guy wins the job over a competent veteran signal caller. To be completely fair, it is a dead heat with no clear winner at this point. One is better at a few things and the other is better at a few things......right now its bulldog crap versus golden retriever crap.....which would you prefer on your shoe? Now, where are those who wanted Josh Freeman? c'mon....fess up.
-
But but but he was IN a playoff game. As a Bills fan, i wasn't sure if the NFL still had playoffs. Caldwell seems to be a real arrogant dude.....he acts as if he has THE PLAN for building a team......so far, and it is clearly too early to tell, his plan sucks.
-
Uh, Tebow was over 67% in college with more attempts......in the SEC versus the ACC......sadly, that doesn't mean his is accurate....nor does it mean his is inaccurate.
-
I would like to say any discussion about this subject would be interesting but the problem is you have people who can't rationally discuss it. As is the case with every football player drafted out of college, you have people so invested personally in their success that any discussion that even hints at being negative is reacted to with extreme prejudice. I understand it because i have done the same thing and it is a trap that is hard to avoid. I personally hope (purely as a Bills fan) that EJ or Tuel is all we could hope for in a QB, but there is a lot of road between what we have seen and success. For every Troy Aikmen there is a Tom Brady and a whole lot of Carson Palmers and Sam Bradfords in between........so you pays your money and you takes your chances!
-
Pretty sound logic here. I will admit that I don't have the passion for the bills that I had 20 years ago. To that end, i did watch the entire game and having seen EJ play a bunch in college what I saw was a little different than what everyone else seems to have seen. Against the first stringers he looked like a rookie, raw and unsettled. When the talent diminished, he got better. To be fair, it could be that the timing of his improvement (ie getting comfortable and into his zone) happened at the same time the defensive starters exited, but we don't know for now. But, at FSU, EJ was often accused of shrinking in big games and compiling stats against the dregs of the ACC. Seems like a great kid, good attitude, head squarely on his shoulders.....and Tuell seems like a nice security blanket just in case.

Who's moving their franchise now?
Garranimal replied to PromoTheRobot's topic in The Stadium Wall Archives
Those vultures have been circling Sam Bradford since he entered the league. Smart birds! -
so how exactly is it that you think EJ will be good?
-
Because the great defense thing is so much more plausible and eases the pain of the truth........which is that Flutie and Tebow were catalysts to improving the teams they played on. But this is a world where people THINK one thing, but others KNOW other things ......and while both are absolutely opinions.....and equally valid, try explaining that to a message board poster.
-
Gil Brandt has been very vocal and upfront about his opinion of Tebow (in fact the first 1/3 of the article basically chronicles several of his articles in which he bags on Tebow) which means he has some pride at stake........and is that the desean jackson who was tied for 5th in the league in dropped passes in 2011 and tied for 8th in 2010? Pot meet kettle.

This is along for the ride?? Nice revisionist history. Yes, the other broncos did everything possible to lose that game.....M. Willis, W. McGahee, Champ http://www.nfl.com/videos/nfl-game-highlights/09000d5d825d5408/GameDay-Steelers-vs-Broncos-highlights
