Dorsey has to compete for any job.  He needs to interview for any opening he can an interview for unless he is willing to just stay QB coach.  It is blatantly unfair but that is the way the NFL works to make it more fair for others.

Just says you have to interview minority coaches,  you dont have to hire them.  Guys are brought in to fulfill that requirement, and to be honest If I was some of them I wouldnt come in to just be part of some dog and pony show.   Especially when it comes out before hand its gonna be GM x, who wants coach y and coordinator z and thats the way it goes down exactly.  The other people who interviewed were just window dressing.

  2. Well one thing about sports contracts is somebody is going to beat them in the very near future.   Personally glad we have Josh locked up for 6 years.  It's what fascinates me about being a GM.   Balancing who is worth the money, when its time to let someone go, who to replace with a rookie.  Looking years into the future, long term outlook.

That would be wise Imo. For example both stefanski and Nagy were constantly asked if they would give up play calling to the OC all season when things weren’t going well. The OC for a play calling offensive HC essentially becomes like the backup QB when things aren’t going well, the most popular guy in town. If he started out with Dorsey calling plays he takes that element out. Question is if he can handle that. He may be able to with Dorsey but not someone else which is why it was rumored that he wanted it to be a package deal.

Man, we're coming at this from all angles.  Interesting.

I caught a tidbit of some talk on sports radio pointing out that on the one hand, if Dorsey takes over an already successful offense with an already established QB, the "bar" for him to show an impact and establish himself as a "QB whisperer" or a top OC in high demand as a HC is going to be pretty high.  He has to meet or exceed an already high standard.

On the other hand, if he goes to NYC and transforms Daniel Jones, it's going to be "All Hail the Chief"

Counterpoising that, if he goes to NYC, Daboll calls offensive plays, and he's seen as Daboll's underling, he's going to be in his shadow and may not be taken as seriously as a HC candidate.

I like the discussion and those are great points and the dilemma for Dorsey.   I hope Dorsey is smart enough to see, Daniel Jones, supposed dual threat, doesnt have the physical tools to hold up.  Then again if they have another terrible season, they will be drafting near the top and he and Daboll can try and get their guy.    But the draft is a another crap shoot, just ask the Browns and the Jets.

I don't think Dorsey to the NJG is anywhere near a done deal.  The Bills will have their say first.  Dorsey is in a great spot.  He can negotiate and interview with the Giants and satisfy his friendship with Daboll, and use it to leverage a sweet pay day from the Bills.  If all things are equal, do you go to the team that needs a lot of work for your first OC job, or do you build up resume points with a Championship caliber team with a superstar QB who really wants you to stay? Hmmmmm....

Totally agree....from Dorsey's standpoint the next rung on the career ultimate goal, I assume is to be a HC, moving to Buffalo OC is the smartest move.   Giants OC could end badly.

I’ve said countless times…… I’m definitely NOT over it.  I don’t expect to be over it for several months/years.  I feel worse about this loss than any in my life.  As 13 year old kid I cried over wide right, but I wasn’t as invested in the team as I am now.  I had a lifetime to still “win a super bowl before I die”.  Time is running out.

i just don’t feel the need to make this place even more miserable than it is right now by wallpapering hot takes throughout every thread.

Ok, so if we don’t win the SB next year, you’d fire McDermott.  Now we know.

Again your reading comprehension needs work.  It means, if another coaching blunder occurs costing us a huge game, hes fired.

Stuff like this….what’s this mean? If we don’t win the SB next year what are you going to do?  Assassinate him?  You surely aren’t going to fire him.  If we don’t win next year, there’s a dam good chance it’ll be partly on McD (and Beane).   Maybe we should hire the next the next new coordinator candidate.  McD is a dam good HC that happened to choke in two straight season ending losses.  Firing him isn’t the answer.

Drama much with the assassinate part?   Never said anything like that.  It means I would fire him if it happens again.  If his decisions are preventing us from getting where we should be.

I don’t know which it is.  That’s why I phrased it in that way.  I don’t pretend to know how it happened.

The loss is on McD/Frazier.  For sure. I already said that. Why even post the bolded….. I’m not acting like it’s a mystery…..

so now that it’s official, what do you want to do about it?  Fire McD?  Fire Frazier?  Cry about it in every post and have nothing rational to say?  Say “I told you so” over and over and over and over.  Cry more.  It’s over.  We lost.  Does saying the same nonsense over and over really make people feel better?  Maybe you should make a post breaking down 13 seconds into a 12 paragraph thesis like other have done.  Introduce new analytics we haven’t yet seen regarding how terrible McD is.

we were seconds away and the coaches blew it.  I’m sick over it.  I will be for, well, probably forever.  Just like wide right.  Just like the music city miracle.  I’ve been there before.  I’m trying my best to act like it and not make a fool.  Wallowing in misery = terrible coping skills.

    That's all I needed.....the coaches blew it.

Accountability doesn't end with the players.   If it happens again, Im not wasting Josh on a coach who cant get it done.

We lost because of a bad coaching decision/failed communications within our STs.  Not sure which, but that’s why we lost.  We had the game 95% won and then 13 seconds happened.  We’ll never know why we lost or what we could’ve done to ensure a win.

Which is it?   We lost because of a bad coaching decision or we'll never know why?  It was more than the kickoff, the prevent D said here KC take easy chunks of yards with 2 timeouts.   Isn't Sean a defensive coach?    We lost because of incompetent coaching, it isnt some mystery.

  10. Im slowly trying to come around to the positive, despite the coaching breakdown.   I just dont see a whole lot we need on offense.  If you can hang with the Chiefs, the offense is pretty good.   Seems the area for improvement is on the D.   The pass rush almost got there aint going to cut it against that team.  Positives: Diggs and Davis, is a pretty good combo, Beasley fills his role very well.   Singletary and the running game improved as the year went on.  Knox could take another step and add some more yards receiving to the TDs.  Got high TDs, middle of the pack yards.

This team could be a destination for vets that want one more crack at the ring.    If you can turn this D up just a few notches, I think were as complete as anyone.   Chiefs D line has more talent than ours.   McD will have to up his game also.  Show me some good defensive scheming.  Next year is the year for bold moves by Beane.  Some vet comes on the trade market, he needs to be ready.

The one play that sticks in my head is our defense (Milano) sacked Mahomes on the 17, forcing a 4th and fg attempt. But no, Dane literally had his fingernail barely touching the bottom of the receiver's jersey. About as ticky tac a call as you'll ever see. Even Scott Van Pelt later said it was terrible. KC scores 3 plays later to go up 14-7. When you know you're basically playing in an arena football game,  every point counts.

I thought about that too, but also realized Butker left 4 point off the board.

When I was watching this live, i was think one long drive and score at the end, never saw what would happen next.   Was thinking this drive could end it.

We can only afford a couple more confounding moments or he goes from great to a liability. You just absolutely can't waste a qb performance like that.  And McD butchered that last 13 seconds.

Its kind of like a Breida fumble, do it again and you wont see the field--have to answer to the coach.   Make terrible crucial time coaching decisions, it cant happen again---have to answer to the owner.

  13. I will say this, it was the most incompetent and gutless coaching you will ever see.

Incompetent---didnt communicate kicking it before the goalline whether squid or a popup kickoff.    Didnt do the holding on first down, you can do it once.  McD said they considered it, I dont believe it. then why didnt you do it.   No line chuck on Kelce at the snap.  Nope lets let him run free

Gutless-McD went into a deep prevent defense when the Chiefs only needed 30 yards to be into Butkers range with 2 timeouts in hand.  He coached scared, and practically guaranteed they would get the FG.  Edmunds 15 yards off the line, deep safety 30 yards off the ball and going backwards at the snap.

Both top 2 seeds knocked out in the NFC, the number 1 seed in the AFC was gone and you were playing the no. 2 seed.   I said it before and I will say it again, the only thing that makes sense to me is he and Frazier both had mini-strokes after Gabes TD and they thought the Chiefs needed a TD.

It was like here Andy, take it.
