This win was huge. Huge difference between going 0-2 with losing 2 self inflicted heartbreaking losses at home and going 1-1 with a with a clutch(game on the line) performance from EJ. I said in the culture of failure thread, you want to end it...win, make a play to win a game. I think it was imporant not only for EJ's confidence but also for the teams confidence in EJ, that this kid can pull one out in the end. Now I dont know if this team is going 5-11 or 10-6. If you were going to pick a win going into this year I would think the Panthers at home probably would of been in your top 5-6 choices. But if you lose 2 home at home, your chances of another 5-11 are almost certain.

Either way the correct call was for 2 quick passes, wasnt it 3rd down? So a fade to the corner seems like a no brainer. I would of expected our Qbs in the past to hang on to the ball for a sack fumble. Seeing a Bills Qb come through in the clutch, well thats something Im not use to. Hats off to EJ.

Fred and CJ ... sharing the load the right way today

Agreed, Freddy is better at getting tough yards in traffic. -
I said in a follow up post that this regime will be given their opportunity. Its up to them-Whaley-Marrone-the coaches-the players to win more than they lose. Its up to them to change the culture of losing. What i was pointing out is what needs to change, better coaching, drafting, managaing the cap and play on the field. Again its up to all of those people to change this culture of losing, win more games than you lose. Im not saying they wont, Im pointing out where we have failed in the past and what needs to change.

Uh no thats not what Im saying, The new GM and coaching staff will be given their opportunity. Some changes have been made in the scouting department. Overdorf going wouldnt bother me. My whole post was just about this----you want reporters to write something different--simple-----win more than you lose. Because if you dont, instead of the Bills havent made the playoffs in 13 years, the only thing that will change is that number, as in next year it will be the Bills havent made the playoffs in 14 years.

You want reporters to write something different? Then do something different as an organization, win more than you lose. Hire a GM who can draft guys who make the pro-bowl first team, better yet draft some HOFers. Hire a coach who can win and who hires a OC and DC who are competant(seems like we've had one or the other but not both for a long time). Manage the salary cap. Anybody care to add up what we spent on wastes like Merriman, Anderson, Kelsay, Fitz, Brad Smith, etc. As for the players, make a play a crucial time. Over these 13 years Ive never seem a team so clutch at finding ways to blow games(McKelvin fumble against the Pats, Stevie's drop against the Steelers, the on-side kicks against Dallas, and on and on). This Sunday was more of the same, drive killing penalties, a couple of key drops, finding ways to lose a game that was there for the win. If Im an employee and I'm in the bottom third of my peers, I wouldnt expect my boss to write a glowing performance review of me. I dont think he was writing anything about not giving Marrone and Co a chance or running anybody out of town. Yes there was some positives in their performance last Sunday, there is potential. However potential just means you've havent done it yet. Reporters could write about how great the Bills are but they wouldnt be reporters, they would be fiction writers. Even for the most optimistic fans I wonder, when exactly can we expect to get to the playoffs and respectability? Next year, the year after that, exactly when?

One more example of 13 not being a lucky number. -
Maybe Norwood wasn't to blame back in SB XXV...

Walt Corey was outcoached bad. Always thought he was the weak link on the coaching staff. -
So does Byrd play on sunday or not?
billsfan714 replied to billsgpr88's topic in The Stadium Wall Archives
What I dont understand about his planter f. injury is if it hasnt got better to allow him to play with 8 months off and no camp and preseason, what is 4 months of the season going to do, to make it better? -
Well for all the interest in re-signing Byrd, we not only have to think about CJ's future with the Bills but we also have a big decision on Dareus to make at the end of the season. His contract has a club option for the 5th year, but it has to be exercised at the end of the 3rd year(this season), and he would get transition money in the 5th year, which right now would be 6.9 million. Plus Carrington will be up in 2014 too. Not sure from an analytics standpoint I would be willing to give 7 million to Dareus in 2015, who has never sniffed a pro-bowl. Plus correct me if Im wrong but dont we have a bigger Fitz dead money in 2014 than this year. Why the geniuses in the Bills front office wouldnt of taken the bigger hit this year, with us well under the cap, is moronic. But in the end, if the Bills are half mill a year or a million a year apart with Byrd, its not to hard to find that money(say 5 million more tops and probably less) if you want. You cut Brad Smith and Freddie next off -season, replace them with 2 rookies and you retain Byrd. Reading the post on Byrd, i can see his frustration. He's seen guys like Fitz, Mark Anderson, Merriman, Kelsay make nice money, journeymen and injury prone past their prime types. Meanwhile he's on the one Bill who has made a real probowl. We dont have big money in QBs like really good teams, there has to be money for Byrd.

Predictions - Bills v. New England*
billsfan714 replied to The Senator's topic in The Stadium Wall Archives
Not feelin much optimism. This defense has given up 3 of the 4 highest point totals in franchise history the last 3 years. Now were are going against Brady without Gilmore and possibly Byrd. Pettine has to be better than Wanny but he's not a miracle worker. A rookie HC and QB against a future HOF coach and QB----Pats 37--Bills 17. -
Yeah got beat my a minute, sorry

The "Why drafting DBs is now a must" thread
billsfan714 replied to OCinBuffalo's topic in The Stadium Wall Archives
You're right, because J. Bell and Miller and Riddick only averaged over 5 yards a carry against our D. We got probs either way.
