The Phantom Hold and why the NFL is dying
fan_in_tx replied to Estelle Getty's topic in The Stadium Wall Archives
I watched the replay of Browns / Bills 1989 Div Playoff game on youtube. That was the best era of football. Good solid tackling, no ref interference and very very few holding calls. As a matter of fact watching the line play on both team you would see solid blocking across the line, no zone schemes just head up beat me if you can. The rules of the game in 1989 were simple to follow. A catch was a catch a hard hit was a hard hit ( no such thing as targeting) defense would try to separate you from the ball. There was one missed call an interception that was called a down ball, but other than that it was the way football was meant to be played. Game sucks today.. too many variables on all plays... -
Bills vs. Dolphins All-22 Coaches Film Reviews

Agreed with this. With Buffalo sitting on 70-100 dollar tickets plus a such a small market share in TV revenue, NFL is not generating revenue from this team. This has an effect of how things are called on the field. Patriots hold every single play.. every play, yet I would guess they have the least amount of holding penalties in the league. How is that justified? Revenue.

If we want to compete with the big boys, he will be cut. RB's are a dime a dozen now and most teams look at it that way. Patriots would cut him, Dallas would as well (ie Dez), he should be thanked for his service and shown the door.

Second time for San Diego.. I was at the Browns game earlier this year... Sooo obvious from the stands to see it happen but ref missed the call and got fired.

As if Jim Kelly was the most accurate QB in NFL history (sarcasm!) Touchdown to Zay was a big boy throw I'll take it anytime!

Why wasn't that grounding on Brady barely outside the pocket and 5 yards short of the LOS NFL is worst than WWE -

Has NE ever had a holding call against them in the first qtr ever? I've seen at least 4 on this drive alone. -

Not that it matters but why did the clock continue to run with 11:34 on the clock 2nd and 10 Ivory runs for 6 out of bounds? Seems like red gave the stop clock sign. I hate the nfl -
I don't think the product is a good as it use to be. Football use to be easy to follow and fun to watch, its prime was mid eighties to 2000. Too many rules nowadays, rules no one can understand. The running game is non existent for the most part for most teams and watching incomplete pass after pass or 2 yard outs is not exciting in my opinion.

I would have ran something like this. Always liked the design of this play and guaranteed to move the nose out of there. http://www.nfl.com/m/share?p=%2Fvideos%2Fnfl-game-highlights%2F09000d5d8228af28%2FJackson-ties-score-with-one-yard-TD -

Does This Time Feel Different?

I would agree with this assessment Tyrod makes plays with his feet that other QB's just can't. My only concern with Tyrod is consistency on the deep ball, it seems he was very good at the beginning of his Bills career but since last season it seems to have no touch on the deep ball. I think his longest pass yesterday covered 12 yards in the Air and i know he badly overshot his receiver on one deep ball yesterday. -
BILLS/OILERS WILDCARD GAME
fan_in_tx replied to Marv's Neighbor's topic in The Stadium Wall Archives
The week before the playoff game I was in Houston Texas at the Bills Final game of the season, Was on my way back from Galveston and actually just drove to the Dome to see if I could get scalpers Tickets. Kelley went down early and I got pics of him sitting on the truck before heading into the locker room. Bills got drilled 27 - 3 that game. Watching the wildcard game there was a point where the Oilers had outscored the Bills 60 - 6 over 6 quarters of football. I fell asleep on my couch at the beginning of Q3 of the wildcard game. Woke up in the middle of the 4th thinking WTF happened. I couldn't believe they came back. -
Sam Cowert - Blew out his achilles then we let him walk had a few solid years with the Jets before he got hurt again. Probably one of the most underrated BIlls LB of all time

Knowing what you know today about Kelly and Brady
fan_in_tx replied to mead107's topic in The Stadium Wall Archives
I would state that Kelly would not fair as well in the Brady era, Brady would not fair as well in the Kelly era. The defense of the 90's and the ability to hit the QB would have had a greater impact on Brady. Would he have been as successful without the tuck rule and if a flag would not have been thrown every time someone breathed on him? Kelly OTOH would be more like a Carson Palmer in the Brady Era.. Just my opinion
