I'll agree that Edwards has the potential to be a true foundational point. Lynch, Jackson, McKelvin are in the same boat. What gets discouraging is that I'm willing to bet that at leat two of those four names won't be on our roster in 4 years. Look at our turnover when players have produced. Evans - True Standout Reed - Role player, but at times is the hear and soul of the team on the field. Excellent at blocking and does his job to the best of his abilities. He's a great team player, no doubt... but not the talent that you try to build around. Poz will improve with as the DL in front of him improves. Most of the rest are merely solid NFL players, that if they weren't on the Bills you wouldn't consider to be the "foundations" of their respective teams. If you're considering all of these to be the foundation of this team, we've built a team for mediocrity. Who on that list stands out as a field general? Who are you semi-comfortable relying on when the game is on the line? I've tried to be as optimistic as possible, but unless we catch lightning in a bottle over multiple consecutive drafts we're not going to be contenders in this league.

New Motto Options: 1) Buffalo Bills - F#@% It... Let's Get Drunk! 2) Buffalo Bills - We'll check for pollups while we're in there! 3) Buffalo Bills - Slowly Killing Buffalo for 50 Years - See Avatar Logo 4) Buffalo Bills - The Bills make me want to JUMP!

I e-mailed it to them the day after they released the 50th anniversary logo... but I have yet to hear back.

Somehow I think that we'll need more than a nude cardboard cutout of Ralph to motivate this team.

Does anyone know how his lateral movement was during the Electric Slide? -
I vote Ban too.

Coles Touring practice facility
DasNootz replied to Jamie Nails's topic in The Stadium Wall Archives
It all depends on the dollars to me... If TJ wants 5 Million more per season, I'd rather have Coles. TJ alone isn't going to make us a playoff team. I'd rather go into the season with Evans, Coles, Reed and 5 million to spend on another quality player than Evans, Housh, Reed and nada. Full Disclosure: I don't think we'll get either. Maybe Bryant Johnson, Drew Bennet, Nate Washington, or some other third tier WR UFA. -
What reasons do good players have to come to Buffalo?
DasNootz replied to Poeticlaw's topic in The Stadium Wall Archives
That was my favorite Mayne Event ever! Really our only hopes are for FAs that want to be out of the spotlight. Other than that, we have to get more effective at drafting/scouting. We can't afford to have 1st round misses and 2nd and 3rd rounders need to contribute. They don't have to be superstars, but they have to be solid contributors. Eventually, we'll catch lightning in a bottle and have the nucleus for a playoff run. Then FAs at the end of their career will be willing to come onboard for our short window to the promise land. Even in the late 80s and 90's where did we get our core players? Kelly - 1st round pick in '83 and still he decided to go to the USFL until it folded Talley - 2nd Round '83 Greg Bell - 1st Round '84 - Later traded for Cornelius Bennet. Smith - 1st round, 1st pick '85 Reich - 3rd Round '85 Reed - 4th Round '85 Wolford 1st Round '86 Bennet - Traded Gregg Bell to the Rams, Dickerson went to Indy, and we got him. 1st Round '87 Conlan - 1st Round '87 Odoms - 2nd Round '87 Thomas - 2nd Round '88 Beebe - 3rd Round '89 Parker - 3rd Round '90 Henry Jones - 1st Round '91 Hansen - 2nd Round '91 We can only hope that our recent picks of Evans, Lynch, Poz, Edwards, Whitner, McKelvin etc... turn out to a studs in the next few seasons, or it's another lost decade. -
Winslow traded from Cle to TB

This year's 2nd and next years 5th... or so JP Losman just told me in church. -
I have no idea if he's gay or not... but I think he's the only person in Buffalo that volunteers (or mugs for photo ops holding a shovel) more than JP Losman. It's like he's a super hero, saving Buffalo one tree at a time during the day, and playing mediocre hockey at night.

All time ten best Buffalo Bills

Kenneth Davis and Frank Reich -
I think he was just picking up some lunch before he and Paul Gaustad went out on a busy day of planting trees, helping old ladies across the street, and helping paint a teen center. After that it's on to Bed Bath and Beyond if they have time...

It might not be New York, San Fran, Minneapolis, Portland etc... but Buffalo does have e-mail. For the price of a few T-Shirts they could have gotten a better logo from a true designer in another city if this was the best that the city of Buffalo could come up with. I've used a company in Alabama that did excellent work for $199. Freelance artists are starving for work right now...

Tell me this isn't the patch degin for the 50th
DasNootz replied to Don's topic in The Stadium Wall Archives
Creative staff is always the first to go in a down economy.... Check out the patch that the Mets are wearing for their first season in the new ballpark. I've submitted my version to the "Offical - I can make a better 50th logo in under 30 minutes" thread. Lets get the creative juices flowing and see if we can come up with something. -
After watching a lot of the combine
DasNootz replied to BeastMode54's topic in The Stadium Wall Archives
In an era of increased scrutiny for PEDs, I'm leary of Cushing. He's an absolute work-out machine, and I think he'll showcase very well at the Combine, but his ability to put on muscle mass is too incredible for me to believe. -
Is Peyton a choker? Yes according to Whitlock
DasNootz replied to Willis990's topic in The Stadium Wall Archives
Can we throw race into this topic too? Based on past columns of Whitlock's that I've read, I think it's fair to say that if Manning was african american, he'd be viewed by Jason as the greatest QB of all time. Undoubtedly, Manning would have single-handidly brought his organization out of obscurity, and through Manning's sheer will alone, he dragged his team into the playoffs this season. I give Jason all the credit for calling a spade a spade when it comes to young black athletes getting into trouble with the law, but his columns are often "less than color blind". I understand he's writing from his point of view and frame of reference, but it doesn't go unnoticed. -
Hypothetically, if the Bills Leave WNY.....
DasNootz replied to chaccof's topic in The Stadium Wall Archives
I've given this a lot of consideration. I'd want my new team to be centered around a traditional blue-collar organization with no dome. I measure blue-collar organizations by the number (or lack there of) of pink jerseys and hats in the stadium. That immediately knocks out any team in a warm climate, New England, Jets and Giants. Then I cross out any that our not within a comfortable day's drive from Upstate New York. That leaves me with: Pittsburg, Cleveland, Chicago, Philadelphia. Cleveland gets nixed too... because they're one bad draft away from being Detroit, and there's no way I'm trading down. Chicago is only an option because of family ties to the city. If that relative moved, they'd come off my list. In the end I'm left with Philadelphia and Pittsburg. Philadelphia is the only NFC East team that didn't beat the Bills in a Super Bowl, so that would give me good reason to cheer for them against their divisional rivals. Pittsburg is basically the Bills, except they consistantly win. I'm not sure I can handle that again. I'd probably need to start jogging so that my heart wouldn't give out. I'll take Philadelphia. -
This is a totally different team with Reed healthy and in the lineup. On more than one occassion, I saw DBs pushing him after the whistle. He's just a gritty player that grinds all day. He's also a great safety valve for trent. Not that it's saying much this season, but he gets my vote for team MVP.

I say keep the name but change the logo. I think the helmets should be red with a big blue $ for Bills.
