TBH, I would truly hope not. Wink Martindale is a good coach and an original defensive mind IMO, but he has always to my knowledge run a 4-3 D and trend to a physical, press-man type of secondary. So that would be analogous to switching to Rex Ryan's defense the year after Jim Schwartz coached us to the #4 overall defense. Not good.

Right We only have 1 TE and 2 of our starting WR are 34 and 32 years old. So we should ignore all offensive skill player needs such as WR, TE, etc and use a first round pick for a CB who might or might not become a better CB than Levi Wallace, vs. just...resigning Levi Wallace. Sounds like the perpetual holding pattern that played around OBD for 17 years - let a good player walk, draft his putative replacement who might be a better player (or might not - even 1st round picks only have an overal 50% success rate)

I agree with your second sentence. But I think Josh's running ability has improved each year. I forget the guy's name, but Josh has trained with the same mobility coach Deshaun Watson uses since his rookie year. I think in his rookie season, Josh actually picked up a bunch of jukes and moves and some lessons on how to read the D from Lesean McCoy. I think in 2019 and 2020, he was focused on his passing and wanting to pass first, and delayed the decision to run, cutting down on his y/a; when he did have designed runs, they often didn't work so well. Now he seems to be deciding faster and also getting some great blocking for better designed runs.

I have no argument there. I had to read it a couple times myself. I think the Bills probably wanted to keep Beasley around another year for that "dog" mentality and veteran presence in the WR room and for teaching his craft as a zone dissector to the younger guys. I do think @BADOLBILZ may be correct that a guy doesn't rack up the NFL fines and off-field attention that Beasley has done this season without getting a bit on the "gruntled" side of the coaching staff and FO. I'm not sure that's the big negative some here would believe, but it turns what would be a clear "Advantage: Beasley" (grit, veteran leadership, "dog" mentality) into a "Mixed Bag" at best.

Sanders signed a 1 year contract for $6M. He may have been a bit of a disappointment as far as availability - missed preseason and needed to "get in sync" with Josh Allen during the first couple games of the season, missed 3 games and most of a 4th (though to his credit, he did come back to play in a crucial game when 2 other starting WR were out with Covid, so he gets the "team guy" props for that). Before he missed those games, he seemed to be fading a bit, with his blocking falling off. He had his lowest catch % of the last 4 seasons (since 2017). Similar kind of analysis of Beasley. On the good side, he is still the Master at getting open vs. zone. On the other side, he seems to have lost some burst, and there are questions (at least in my mind) as to whether a Beasley who is playing injured and going down instead of fighting for a first down should be on the field ahead of Davis or McKenzie. The Bills have limited cap space, so it's not a huge stretch (or a sign of dislike) to think the Bills might decide they need that cap to re-sign Harrison Phillips and others, and they should move towards getting younger at WR - giving Davis a shot and re-signing McKenzie, perhaps. I would really like to see the Bills use some top picks at OL and WR this draft.

This is just a guess, but if the guy does some "boxscore scouting" I would guess he would look at the 1st NE game, Carolina, Atlanta, 2nd Jets - and see completion % of 55% or less, and think "yeah, this guy still has issues". He might not see the game and note the howling gale, the pressure which forced throw-aways, and all the WR drops of catchable balls. He might look at the 3 picks in the Atlanta game and think "bad decision making" and not realize 2 of them were very good defensive deflections.
