  1. How can I put this nicely? Obviously, there will need to be a sound working relationship with mutual respect and good communication between Josh Allen and the new OC and new QB coach, whoever it may be. But beyond that, I think it's far more important of the new offensive coordinator can draw up plays that effectively exploit our opponent's defense and let our players win. Do that, and the great relationship will come. Palmer shmalmer. He has never been an NFL coach at any level. No way would he be a sound choice at OC.
  2. So this is actually interesting. The other 3 interviews reported here are all of DC's. https://www.cbssports.com/nfl/news/nfl-head-coach-and-gm-interview-tracker-giants-hire-former-bills-oc-brian-daboll/ It may be incomplete though, as Flores is not listed. And as Sal points out: Personally, if I were being interviewed for an OC or DC position before the head coach was hired, I would have one thing to say: Because as already noted, each coach has his staff (or several alternatives for his staff) lined up So whether or not it's a legit interview for which you're gonna be seriously considered, depends entirely upon who gets the HC gig Oh God No FML shoot me now No No No NO! FML FML FLM FML 🤢🤢🤮
  3. That extra support is a "blessing and a curse". The same extra support that might be reassuring at first, is going to lead to him being perceived as not fully the OC, as standing in the HC offensive shadow, right about when he's ready to take his step. You're correct and I just learned this tonight. An assistant can not be blocked from interviewing for the OC or DC position with another team.
  4. New HCs talk to guys they want about possibilities. And for sure, "what are your thoughts on who you'd like for OC and DC?" is part of the interview process. It's much easier now that lower-tier assistants who are under contract can't be blocked from interviewing for OC jobs. But there's no way they can have "assurances" going in who will be their coordinators, because there are a lot of moving parts. What if the guy gets an offer he likes better? There's no way a young assistant looking for a step is going to promise "I will work for you and only you and tell everyone else to F off" because what if "you" doesn't get the HC job or a better job opens up? I do agree that McDermott has prepared and he and Beane have a "short list", but I don't agree they "had a guy on the hook already"
  5. Interesting! So they HAVE to interview outside the building for coordinators now too! Doesn't that cast some shade on the tweet that made it look as though the Giants offered Dorsey the job and it was all done but the i dotting and t crossing?
  6. 3x retread who had done poorly at 2 of his 3 previous OC positions, to boot.
  7. McDermott said something about "Chad Hall being a young coach who is off to a great start to his career". That didn't sound like "guy who I'm eyeballing as the next OC"
  8. https://www.cbssports.com/nfl/news/tom-brady-retirement-decision-seen-as-imminent-by-those-close-to-qb-who-remain-convinced-hell-call-it-quits/ https://www.nbcsports.com/boston/buccaneers/nfl-rumors-sources-close-tom-brady-expect-bucs-qb-retire Lot of networks picking this up, is it all based on LaConjecture?
  9. I don't really have suggestions Obviously Ken Dorsey would be on the list, if the Bills think he's ready to take the step. I'd guess that McDermott might want to talk to Mike Shula. McDermott was DC when Shula was OC, for 4 years in Carolina. I feel uneasy about that, because IMHO they ran the Cam Newton into a premature end of his career, but Newton never seemed to be the precision passer Allen has become; how much of what we saw was Shula and how much was Newton, hard to say. But if I were guessing who they'd like to bring in, Shula would be on the list. Shula went from Carolina to be OC of the Giants for the last year of Manning and the 1st year of Jones, and I actually thought he did pretty well given the pieces he had to work with - no OL, receivers dropping balls - then to Denver as QB coach. Erm....Matt LaFleur is still the head coach in Green Bay. He's not coming to Buffalo to be our OC. But keep in mind it's not just Josh who has to master a new playbook, it's everyone else on the offense. I'm not saying they can't, but a WCO is conceptually usually a very different offense, very timed.
  10. Josh gives a lot of credit to Daboll for helping him learn about the game - not mechanics, but learning to read the defense, understanding protection calls, and understanding "where his answers are" for each defense. They were said to spend a lot of time watching film together into the evenings.
  11. That Josh had things that needed to be corrected? Josh would be the first to tell you he did, or why did he work with the biomechanics guy and redo his throwing motion and talk about learning to think about the game differently?
  12. Incorrect. Alabama may run Erhardt-Perkins, but Daboll learned his variant of Erhardt-Perkins from his time with the Patriots. That's what they run. It's been commented by a number of people that Daboll runs a variant of the Patriots offense. I do agree that it would be better to keep the E-P offense and nomenclature, but that's far from saying Bill O'Brien and his flaming ego are a good choice, much less the "only logical choice".
  13. I agree with this, but there's an interesting point here. I think Daboll was "led" to the conclusion he'd be better in the booth by McDermott. Daboll has said something to the effect that you get too invested in the play that just ran and it's easier to put it aside and move on to the next from the booth. So....is he ready to stand on the sidelines? Are there any HC who work from the booth on gameday?
  14. I was thinking "next Anthony Lynn" but yeah, similar theme. Or even Bienemy, who I believe is regarded rightly or wrongly as standing in Andy Reid's offensive shadow
  15. Even when he runs in a straight line, he looks like he's moving in slow motion to me. I think this just highlights the fact that a 40-time recorded at the Underwear Olympics may or may not reflect the player's Game Speed. Allen (who somehow got omitted from that list) ran a 4.76. He regularly not only breaks ankles, he outruns guys.
  16. I didn't, actually, but thanks for clarifying! I think having a GM he's comfortable working with in Schoen may have a lot to do with it (you left out the Dolphins juicy cap situation vs the Giants -$5M)
  17. So the latest seems to be that they are interviewing Leftwich again in person, on Tuesday https://www.msn.com/en-us/sports/nfl/byron-leftwich-to-interview-for-jaguars-coaching-job-tuesday-this-time-in-person/ar-AAT6oL3 https://www.yahoo.com/now/gene-frenette-byron-leftwich-wait-180952958.html https://www.si.com/nfl/jaguars/news/report-jaguars-and-leftwich-not-closing-in-on-an-agreement https://www.msn.com/en-us/sports/nfl/byron-leftwich-will-be-patient-as-he-climbs-the-coaching-ladder/ar-AATfYra
  18. Or push them to pull the trigger and make a decision vs. taking a week to interview various candidates. Is he giving an intro presser or something? Linky?
  19. What is the source of this info? I'm not questioning its veracity, just wanting to know where it came from. Because I have heard Diggs and McDermott and others talk about how hard McKenzie works. Now I get that "practice doesn't make perfect, the right practice makes perfect", but usually someone willing to work hard and good practice go together. There was an ex-Patriot player who reamed Ocho out when he said something about how the Pats offense seemed like Magic. Told him it seems like magic to you because you don't know the playbook, you're not in the playbook. Get in the playbook, or stuff to that effect. Now that doesn't necessarily mean he's not smart, but "not smart" and "too lazy" can contribute to the same effect. Edit: found it. It was Bruschi. Ochocinco apparently admitted as much: https://profootballtalk.nbcsports.com/2012/06/24/chad-ochocinco-admitted-he-never-grasped-patriots-playbook/ Again, maybe he couldn't get it because he was smart enough but didn't put in the grind. But it doesn't speak well to his "smarts"
  20. I believe they're talking about Daboll's current wife and their 4 kids Since she still has Daboll's picture heading her twitter account, not any "ex" about her.
