Brian Flores suing NFL, NY Giants, Dolphins, Broncos.
Hapless Bills Fan replied to BillsFan4's topic in The Stadium Wall
I dunno, you seem much more concerned about potentially punishing Flores for filing a lawsuit, than about punishing wealthy franchies owner Ross for reportedly trying to bribe his coach to ACTUALLY THROW NFL FOOTBALL GAMES. Flores is going to face extensive negative consequences in the NFL whether his allegations are proven or not. And he knows it. Legally, though, you can't prove someone is lying about something like this. The best you can do is say their allegations are not proven, or not supported by corroborating evidence. -

So you think if Flores is "found to be lying" (which isn't really a legal thing, but let it pass), he should be banned from the NFL for life, but if he's telling the truth, he should just have to sell the team? -
It's possible. In my defense, sometimes it's hard to tell around here.

Seems to be a pretty decent article deconstructing the various pieces of the lawsuit: https://www.espn.com/nfl/story/_/id/33201180/brian-flores-nfl-lawsuit-prove-systemic-racism-know-claims-sham-interviews-incentivizing-tanking-plus-next The question is, what did he know and from whom? It's possible someone with hiring power on the Giants called Belichick and shared with him they'd made a decision. It's also possible someone with hiring power called him and asked his opinion on Daboll, who worked for him in two stints totalling 10 years, and didn't outright tell him they'd made a decision, but led him to "read between the lines". The difference matters -
TF are you talking about? Sort by cap hit. The top 4 on the list are $63.3M There is no fat to trim off Stefon Diggs or Tredavious White Josh Allen admits he could lose a few pounds Very few football knowledgeable people would assert those three aren't worth it to keep around. Josh Allen's full salary hasn't hit yet, Diggs is underpaid relative to vet WR with similar production, and Tre White is paid like a top-5 CB - which he is.

Jim Harbaugh is going back to Michigan.
Hapless Bills Fan replied to Protocal69's topic in The Stadium Wall
Not according to an article in the Athletic: https://theathletic.com/3108906/2022/02/03/from-jim-harbaugh-to-kevin-oconnell-an-inside-look-at-a-shocking-day-amid-the-vikings-coaching-search/?redirected=1 It sounds as though the Vikings had some hard questions for Harbaugh and didn't like his answers. -
I don't think he takes McKenzie. Contrary to popular belief here that McDermott done i-Mac wrong, I think Daboll called the shots on the offense and if he thought McKenzie had it in him to be a full-time slot, he'd have played him there more when Beasley was obviously injured and playing hurt. I think Daboll loves him some Beas and if Beasley was cut, would indeed try to sign him. I don't rule it out that he tries to trade for him by making some "economies" elsewhere in the Giants cap space and re-negotiating. But I could be wrong. No to Brieda, he was obviously an experiment who didn't "control what he can control". Kumerow or Taiwan Jones seem possible to me (I think the Bills try to re-sign Kume and move on from Jones, but that could be me). So do some low price guys from the defensive side of the ball - Obada? Butler? It really depends a lot on who Daboll brings in as coordinators I thought that was Beane? If Sanders decides to play another year, he'll be chasing a ring. He's also into "self preservation" mode, which means skipping on preseason and practices where possible. It hindered him with Allen, and would sink him with Jones.

Mike McDaniel hired as HC by Miami
Hapless Bills Fan replied to Hapless Bills Fan's topic in The Stadium Wall
Truth there. And prior to the AFCCG, Shanahan has owned McVay for the last 3 seasons. But I believe McVay did beat him 3 out of 4 from 2017 to 2018. Perhaps CJ Beathard at QB was too much to overcome. -

Hapless Bills Fan replied to BillsFan4's topic in The Stadium Wall
I meant contending within a game, not contending for playoffs. Look at the Bills in 2017, when we were 9-7 and got into the playoffs. Something like 5 or 6 of our wins were by 1 score. If we really believe that 2-3 timely calls by the refs can swing the outcome of a ball game, then it seems to me that 2-3 untimely play calls by the coach or poor substitutions could also swing the outcome of a ball game, but yet the team would still be close and competitive in those games and the coach could use that as motivation and a building block (theoretically). I'm not saying it's happened, I'm just pointing out how (in theory) a coach could subtly tank and yet not lose the locker room. -
Will the Titans go after Mitch Trubisky?
Hapless Bills Fan replied to notwoz's topic in The Stadium Wall
I don't think Trubisky is a likely replacement for Tannehill. I don't know if they move on from Tannehill, but while he had a meltdown in the playoffs, he actually played pretty well the rest of the season - better than Trubisky showed. I think the offers Trubisky had were to compete as a starter. I think there are some teams now who are cap-limited and not drafting high, who don't have an incumbent starter and who might immediately contend with Trubisky. The Steelers are one. Maybe 3 others. -

I doubt it. Daboll needs one of two things to happen: 1) Danny Dimes turns out to be a piece he can build on 2) Danny Dimes can't be saved, and they need to move on and invest in a new QB Either way, he needs Jones to play. And while he's playing Jones, he gets a mulligan on the season -
Brian Daboll Wants Matt Lombardo to Show Up on Time
Hapless Bills Fan replied to HOUSE's topic in The Stadium Wall
He didn't admit that in the OP article: "Then Daboll would have known who he’s really ***** with. I don’t know anything about the Buffalo media, but you’re in New York now buddy. These media members don’t mess around." Daboll has been in NY for the last 3 seasons. He is no longer in NY, is the problem. -

Hapless Bills Fan replied to BillsFan4's topic in The Stadium Wall
So if it's found that he's telling the truth, what should happen? I'm not sure about that. When we complain about the refs, the point that is often made is that a few calls at key times can swing the game. Suppose you have a team that is contending (so the locker room believes in you, they see that they're close) and you make substitutions or play calls that swing the game, at key points. Then you can go back in the locker room and say "men, you fought hard, we almost had them, they just made one more play than us. We've got to do better, starts with me" 😬 -

Then the claim that he has witnesses and corroborating evidence won't hold up. -

He got to the NFCCG with Jimmy G, Deebo Samuel, and a top-5 run game 1770 yards from scrimmage for Samuel is unreal -

When Burrow was drafted, I seem to recall arm strength or the velocity on his throws being a "??" In any event, he reportedly worked with Palmer and the Biomechanics guy Allen uses during and after his rehab, to improve his "arm strength" https://www.cincyjungle.com/2021/7/24/22590810/bengals-news-jordan-palmer-joe-burrow-training-arm-strength-nfl So potentially, Tua and Mac Jones could also make improvements in this regard if they care to put in the work. -

This seems gratuitous. And tacky. One of the prime stupidities of the whole "race" concept is that appearance doesn't reflect ancestry very well. I have a good friend who is 1/2 native Hawaiian - with red hair, freckles, and the ultra-white skin common to redheads. This young lady has a black father most of us cheered for: -
I mean, his QB play pretty much sucked, didn't it? And if McDaniel designed his offense around the skillset of Deebo Samuel and only had him for 7 games as Brady did with CMC, mightn't he look like he sucked? Feliciano said something in an interview about "there's playcalling, and then there are players who make the play work" while breaking down an outside zone run where Breida made a nice gain but Singletary was being tackled in the backfield. I'm not questioning your conclusion, I guess I'm interested in how you tell that it's the playcalling and not the execution of the plays that are called. And sure, his rise was super-rapid and it may well be that he's a guy who just needs to settle in and figure things out more. At this point, I don't think Josh needs someone who is going to work with him technically every practice (though they may bring in an assistant who can, or he could bring in a consultant, as I understand it Brady used to do this). He needs someone to look at plays on the sideline and help him figure out the defense/coverage and sometimes rein in his own tendencies.

PSA: if you run linux, time to update
Hapless Bills Fan replied to Hapless Bills Fan's topic in Off the Wall
Typically, you don't. Web-based software usually works seamlessly. For a lot of us duffers, 90% of what we do online is probably reached through a web browser these days, and Linux has several excellent web browsers. There are native Linux versions of much software that accomplish the same functionality for routine stuff like Microsoft Office (word processor, spreadsheet etc) For other stuff: T here is software that offers a "compatibility layer" that allows Windows applications to run on Linux (Wine). This is spotty IMO. You can use software that creates a Windows "Virtual Machine" (just as you can run a Linux "Virtual Machine" on Windows. Better luck with this IME. That gets me probably 98% of what I personally run on Windows, but some of it is clunky. If I were trying to consult with a team using Microsoft Teams or something I'd just use a Windows machine. Fair warning: this probably makes it sound too much like I know TF I'm doing. I used to use Unix and SunOS/Solaris machines a lot at wor. We run Linux Mint on an old laptop because it extended its life (gave us a faster, more useful system for the same hardware) and a Linux virtual machine on our home Windows desktop, but I'm really closer to the "Valley of Despair" than the "Slope of Enlightenment" and rely on my friends in the field to set me straight. -
Ah. So was it really his play calling that sucked, or was it the lack of a QB who could execute it, and injuries to key players? McDaniel might not have looked good without Deebo Samuel. I don't watch Carolina so have no idea.

Webb is not our QB coach. Speculation was wrong
Hapless Bills Fan replied to Reed83HOF's topic in The Stadium Wall
He doesn't have to "ask the Bills not to sign him". If he's offered a futures contract, all he has to do is...not sign it Yes, the idea of a futures contract is to lock the player up as soon as the new league year starts, instead of having them be a free agent. It gives the PS guys a tiny bit of security telling them they'll be brought into OTAs and camp with a team, but it doesn't give them any $$ AFAIK. -
Is it confirmed he was the play caller and not Rhule? There's no such thing. They can offer Dorsey a 3 or a 5 yr guaranteed contract, but if he has the opportunity to take a HC job in a year, they can't block it.

Hapless Bills Fan replied to BillsFan4's topic in The Stadium Wall
When you can't remember what you've actually said, it's time to slow down and review: Direct quote: "He looks like an entitled guy that didn’t tip his friend off that the fix was in " Nope, I didn't say that. You think I did, prove it. I think he was the guy Schoen wanted as soon as Schoen was hired, but he still had to interview and persuade the rest of the Giants decisionmakers - unless we think Schoen has unlateral hiring and firing power for the HC now, which is a position you've argued against. Again, you can't have it both ways; if you accept the Giants explanation that it "went down to the 11th hour", and was Flores job to lose all along, then Schoen did nothing to "look bad" and Daboll is not a "douche" - both things you have said. Since you seem to have trouble remembering what you've said, let me help you: In that case, Billy B's text messages are nothing but gossip and Flores lawsuit about a "sham" interview is frivolous. Which is it? I got to say, I thought you were just a politically-minded rabble rouser with Bad Football Takes, but you're displaying some of the hallmarks of the troll here. And your Avatar seems Perfect for you -
