Saints promote Dennis Allen to HC

They really should, they suspended Kareem Hunt for a less serious incident. -

This guy's ego is out of control. Seriously, do his attorneys have any idea how badly that comes across? You can promote an internal candidate, sure, but you still have to interview 2 external candidates as far as I know. -
Beach chairs are back! (Kromer hired as OL Coach)
Hapless Bills Fan replied to MWK's topic in The Stadium Wall
It was reported as a hire by the Vikes ESPN reporter, but the Bills quickly said "nope, he's only one of the guys we're talking to" -

Zak Kromer had been there since 2017 Aaron Kromer had been OL coach since 2018 So for 3 years it wasn't a problem, then he didn't want it? -

I was far too sick of seeing endless Hail Murray reruns everywhere I look plus that stupid "break everything in the locker room throwing the ball with goggles" ad to feel bad for him. -

That would be a little odd since his son is, in fact, not fired but still on the Rams coaching staff -

Beach chairs are back! (Kromer hired as OL Coach)
Hapless Bills Fan replied to MWK's topic in The Stadium Wall
Good question. Looks like he's been out of football last year. According to Kromer's wikipedia page, he was not retained as of February 2021. The guy the Rams hired, Kevin Carberry, worked with McVay when he was OC of the Team Formerly Known as Redskins. He'd been working at Stanford as run game coordinator and OL coach. So who knows what happened - either Kromer had some friction or they felt the line didn't meet expectations, or Carberry needed a job and McVay preferred him, or Kromer needed a year away for personal reasons would be three guesses. -
Texans expected to hire Lovie Smith for HC
Hapless Bills Fan replied to Gambit's topic in The Stadium Wall
Oh Durrr of course, Brian Daboll. I hadn't heard that "BD is out of Bills lose to Pats in the first round" Erik Turner of Cover1, who I believe has legit contacts, tweeted that the coaching staff found that part of the lawsuit amusing. What isn't often included along with it is the timing - McDonnell tweeted Flores January 11th. The Bills had just "run the table" to earn the 3rd seed in the AFC and the AFC East title. Their first playoff game was 13 Jan. This wasn't a result of potential friction over 13 seconds. -

The Texans are obligated by rule to interview 2 external minority candidates for OC. If they hire the objectively unqualified McCown above the 2 external minority candidates they interview, I believe that will cause almost as much fuss as hiring McCown as HC would have. They can hire McCown as an offensive assistant, assistant QB coach, or even QB coach with no push-back. -

Alvin Kamara arrested in Vegas after Pro Bowl

https://www.espn.com/nfl/story/_/id/33238563/police-report-video-evidence-supports-allegations-new-orleans-saints-rb-alvin-kamara I assume the "associate" was also arrested, or will be soon Kamara is pretty certain to face a civil suit, and can possibly make the criminal charges go away if he settles large and fast. -
How do the words "despite my protesting" apply to the workout bonus? I'm not protesting anything. I'm aware he has a workout bonus. It's a "bonus" - to incentivize. It doesn't change that up until mandatory minicamp...the OTAs are voluntary, Star can choose to skip them, and the team has no real leverage to, as you put it, "insist that he be there for offseason and OTAs". It's less than 5% of his salary, and if Star decides that it's worth it to take a 5% pay shave to stay away, can't "insist" He doesn't need to "excuse" himself. They're voluntary. And he would be far from the only NFL veteran who doesn't buy in to them (see Tretter, JC). The only question will be: what excuse Tretter will unearth for encouraging players to stay away from OTAs this year, without the Covid safety excuse? I'm sure he'll find one. Now you're talking! The way I see it, the Bills either have to "take it or leave it" with Star. They're the ones positioned to evaluate his play on the field against their standard and his deportment/committment in meetings and in the locker room. If they feel he's "all in" and legitimately was dealing with injuries/long-term Covid effects, and that he still wants to play - OK. At his best, I think you do get $1.5M of production out of Star, which is all they'd save by cutting him. On the other hand, if there's doubt, don't mess around with "understandings" that may or may not effect change in the behavior of a 33 yr old veteran. What can you say to him in an office that's going to materially affect his commitment and heart? He's either got it or he doesn't, and they need to judge him based on what they saw and make a decision. I'm at the point where it wouldn't bother me a bit to see the Bills move on from him, except that right now he and Oliver are our only signed starters on DL.

Still under contract for this season tho -
Since Star is already playing with a contract that guarantees him $2.5M in salary plus an additional $600k of workout and roster bonuses, why would he renegotiate or settle for $2M? And look, I'm neither a fan of the guy nor a DL play expert, but Star played all 16 games in 2018 and 2019 before skipping 2020 due to Covid then being out for 6 games this year. And it's not his job in McD's defense to put up stats like tackles, hurries, and sacks, so unless you are a pretty astute DL play analyst, you more or less have to trust McD and Frazier that when he plays, he's doing what they expect. Then Beane disagrees with you. In his post game presser, he said that Star played well in his first 7 games, but that his play never returned to that standard when he came back from Covid. So "mixed bag" was the official Bills FO verdict. I dunno what they're gonna do with Star. If he returns to form and plays like he did in the beginning of the season, it's very doubtful that we could hire a FA who is as good of a scheme fit for the $1.5M (plus clearing next year's $2.6M) we save by cutting Star, and assuming we stick to McD's beloved rotation, we need at least 2.

Davis Webb on FA visit with NYG (update - signed)

Not a chance. The Panthers exercised Darnold's 5th year option. For 2022, his salary of $18.9M is fully guaranteed, and fully transfers with any trade. -

Maybe he's salty that he was actually criticized for his playoff performance, including throwing one of the most boneheaded pick-6's I've ever seen. He has a throw right there which he could place where either an eligible receiver, or no one, gets it Instead, he pulls it down and waits until this happens: Then declines to take a safety by throwing it up so that this happens: That wins out hands-down over anything Allen did in the Houston playoff game, and he deserves a ***** ton of flak for it. -
I see the way you're thinking about it, it's just not the usual way to look at it. Look at it another way - if the Bills cut star, they save $1.57M. Framed as you frame it, they save $1.57M and free up an extra $2.6M cap next year. Who could Beane sign in FA for that money, who would contribute more than they perceive Star as doing in their system? What exactly would be Star's motivation to make such a "retirement deal"? He can sit on his butt, force them to cut him, and collect all $7.7M of the dead money, including his $2.5M guaranteed salary and his $5.2M remaining signing bonus. Why would he make a concession to retire instead of being cut? That would require Star and his agent to say that Star no longer wishes to play due to Covid (essentially, that he's retiring). If Star retires, the Bills can request repayment of his $5.2M remaining signing bonus and are no longer on the hook (I think) for this year's guaranteed salary. Again, why would Star wish to negotiate anything? He can take up a roster spot and get paid. If the Bills cut him, he gets paid. Where is the Bills leverage?

Rumored Giants Players Available for Trade
Hapless Bills Fan replied to SCBills's topic in The Stadium Wall
I think Schoen would love to trade Barkley and free up the cap space for a guy who can't seem to stay healthy, but his 1 year, $7.2M fully guaranteed contract makes him unpalatable to most trade partners. -

$7.2M fully guaranteed isn't crazy for a guy who has only played 15 games out of the last 33 games, and who hasn't hit 5 ypa since 2018? Yes, in principle he has great talent, but the guy seems to be a walking IR festival Some super-talented players in college just don't seem to hold up in the NFL. -

Bradberry, which is who the guy you're responding to was addressing? Nothing of his salary is guaranteed. -
