  1. Beane can't control rumors. He can (and should) do due diligence on every FA, but just because he "shows interest" by reaching out to see what a player wants then shrugging and moving on when there's not a match, doesn't mean the Bills are in a serious negotiation with every FA And no, what I heard him say was different.
  2. Oh indeed. This off-season Beane said something to the effect that we wouldn't be big spenders but we would have more to work with than last season. Of course, it all depends upon players who are currently under contract being "on board" with signing extensions.
  3. Mefears you have just slipped and fallen into a Sar Chasm. I believe the OP you were responding to was riffing on some things that are claimed to be said about Tremaine Edmunds in exculpation of what these folks see as his "bust" level play.
  4. I don't actually. Beane said up front last season that we would not be big players in FA. He's usually a pretty straight shooter. And we did sign Sanders for $6M
  5. It pretty much depends on what other moves they make prior to the league new year. If they extend Diggs and renegotiate a couple contracts in addition to a few more cut s or a trade, then we may be signing guys early. If we just keep on with what we’re doing so far, we have no choice but to wait for prices to drop I didn’t see 31 drops, but if it’s a scored drop it’s supposed to be catchable
  6. Perhaps you need to review: https://www.twobillsdrive.com/community/guidelines/ Strangely enough, there's a strong contingent of folks here complaining that the mods are letting too much nonsense slide right now 🤷‍♂️ PS don't turn other topical, active discussion threads into your personal whinge-fest
  7. FWIW: https://www.nydailynews.com/sports/football/giants/ny-mitchell-trubisky-qb-competition-notebook-20220309-es4qwcbacbgibdgckli53uyh64-story.html
  8. We ask why is a team which lives and dies by its O-line play releasing a pro-bowl guard? Maybe because he is 34, has played 12 seasons, and is no longer "all that"?
  9. I'll put a little note of caution here. Just as McKenzie had a fantastic Week 17 2020 game against the Dolphins (playing man and heading for the bus) and against the Patriots (playing man and letting him run away from them), Davis had a super-fantastic game against the Chiefs when they had a plan to shut down Diggs, shut down Beasley, contain Knox, and let anyone else beat them. Just as those two fantastic games don't prove beyond a reasonable doubt that McKenzie could take over for Beasley in the slot and do everything Beasley can, Davis amazeball game against the Chiefs (and a couple other fantastic games he had) don't prove beyond a reasonable doubt that Davis is ready to be our #2. He could be. But there have also been games where he's dropped passes (Ravens playoff, dropped a touchdown pass, Jags game etc) that would have been difference making plays. I thought the Bills gave Sanders too many snaps for too much of the season at Davis expense, but we also have to realize there may have been a reason for that. Davis is a talented young player, but he still needs to take a step to become that full-time #2. He needs to improve his mid-50s catch % - yes, there are games where he Owns Toe Drag Swag, and part of the low % is being asked to run deep routs and make the tough sideline grabs, but there are also catchable balls that he doesn't haul in. IMHO the Bills need to hedge their bets.
  10. FIFY Would the Cheats be a top, perennially team for that long of a stretch without their "ruthless pursuit of a competitive advantage"? Almost certainly yes. But they videotaped practices and signals, bugged locker rooms, jammed opponents radio frequencies, and deflated balls. Would they have been quite as successful if they didn't do those things? We'll never know
  11. Not to pick on you but I'd like to use this as an example of how NFL contracts can sound big and lengthy and not amount to "all that". Per Spotrac Contract: 3 yr(s) / $14,400,000Signing Bonus $2,250,000Average Salary$4,800,000GTD at Sign:$4,400,000Total GTD:$4,400,000Free Agent: Feliciano received $4.4M guaranteed consisting of a $750k signing bonus last season, $1.5M amortized into 2022, and $2.15M guaranteed salary last season. It was touted as a 3 yr, $14.4M contract, but it was really a 1 year, $4.4M contract with the cap hit lowered by paying $2.9M last season and $1.5M this season. That made him something like the 27th or 28th highest paid guard in AAV, and if we were paying him as a C the 16th or 17th highest paid C. IOW, he pretty much got paid like what he was - an average starting guard with the ability to play C. Fair deal for both parties (look at some of the other guys who are paid in that range), but not nearly the great contract it sounded like. And with 5 days until the tampering period and 7 days until the start of the league New Year, time to move on.
  12. Could be. This is the key point: https://buffalonews.com/sports/bills/brandon-beane-bills-about-6-6m-over-2022-salary-cap-as-new-league-year-approaches/article_3765aa48-9ef7-11ec-81f8-9379c277e842.html According to Beane (must be some internal Bills recordkeeping that Spotrac and Overthecap haven't caught up with), the Bills were $6.6M over the cap with the new league year By releasing Klein ($5.1M) and Feliciano ($3.4M), the Bills now have $1.9M cap space. Yep, they need to do more as they currently don't even have enough space to put a right-of-first-refusal tender on Bates or Zimmer: Right of First Refusal: $2,433,000 Original-Round Tender: $2,540,000 Second-Round Tender: $3,986,000 First-Round Tender: $5,432,000
  13. He lost weight and reportedly the Bills hadn't asked him to, yeah. I vaguely recall that in one or another interview he indicated it was his agents' idea to make him faster or something. Spoiler it didn't, and he lost the advantage of Mass
  14. I don't think anyone would try to argue you that he's a top OL talent - he's not Brandon Scherff or Wyatt Teller, or Ali Marpet. But what does "suck" mean, really? I would put him as a lower-third starter whose positional flexibility gives him a bit of a bonus. Would you really want to argue that, say , Greg Van Roten, or Dan Feeney, or Justin McCray (to name a few guards of a similar age and experience range) are better? That's the point a couple of us are making - that Feliciano seems to slot into a tier of veteran OLmen who aren't top talent, but who play well enough to slot into that $2-$3.5M a year vet minimum range, well over vet minimum. The fact that FA almost always get overpaid plays into it. Maybe. I think Bobby Johnson over-valued him because of the help getting buy-in on his technique and because of that "positional flexibility", so it wouldn't at all surprise me to see him go to the Giants. I think there may be a couple of teams interested and he'll get something like $2.5M
  15. I don't think he seems himself that way and he probably shouldn't see himself that way. Overall in the league, OL play is pretty bad. Mongo had higher value to Bobby Johnson because of their mutual background with the Raiders; he was one of the guys brought in to help "teach" Johnson's techniques. He also had higher value last year when he started at RG and backed up at C. At present, the Bills have Williams penciled in at RG and Bates ( assuming they retain him) penciled in at LG and backup C. But there are OLs in the league where Feliciano would be a clear upgrade on the incumbant starter, and add positional versatility to boot. He may not get $4.8M AAV elsewhere, but he's likely to get more than vet min.
  16. Other thread has the links and stuff, so....
  17. Exactly my question. I would tend to believe Skurski more but I don't know that I have logical reasons behind that belief
  18. Yeah, I think it's time. Folks, no assessment of trade values...next to no real assesment of how an Edmunds-shaped hole in the 4-3D would be flled...no additional news or info. There are several existing threads into which your Edmunds hate may be poured
  19. I think this is a prediction based on "the coach worked with this QB last year" more than "this is a move that makes sense for either side"
