  1. Yep on all counts. Like I said upthread, watching his highlights from that game never grows old. Will be interesting to see what Dorsey and Joe Brady cook up. And completely agree, Beane is not out there hauling in players according to some abstract theoretical scale o' goodness. He is 100% looking for the type of players the coaches tell him they need. He didn't go out there and sign Sanders in a vacuum without Daboll making a case that a WR with Sanders chops was their top offensive priority. He didn't re-sign McKenzie without Dorsey making a case for a player with his skills (mostly that uncoachable thing, speed)
  2. The reasons aren't far to find: 1) needed to get away from 4 and 5 WR sets in favor of extra blockers, due to OL 2) wanted to use both Emmanuel Sanders and Beasley 3) Knox emerging as a legit blocking and receiving TE and getting close to 90% of the snaps so if you've got Diggs, Sanders, and Beasley on the field in a (1,1) or Diggs and Sanders in a (1,2) personnel set, Davis and McKenzie aren't seeing the field This is just my opinion, but I think Daboll felt, going into the season, that the legit way to defeat teams doubling Diggs and bracketing Beasley was to add a similar skillset WR who could play both roles and take off some heat from them, in Sanders. That's why Sanders was the biggest budget add. But for various reasons, it didn't quite work that way, what's the saying, "everyone has a plan until you get punched in the mouth"?
  3. So "I hate that guy" is kind of a running theme from Hyde. 2020, the team is boarding to depart for a game, it's snowy, it's cold, they're interviewing Hyde who is all bundled up and McKenzie strolls by wearing Chubbies short shorts and matching short sleeve shirt and Hyde spontaneously blurts out "I HATE THAT GUY!" McKenzie is a noted trash-talker to his own teammates and evidently any time he catches one over them in practice, they get a major earful o' crap (or if they're sore and taking it off; Hyde said "you'd think he'd get tired and run out of energy, but he never does") According to Hyde he also drove them nuts when he was on the scout team giving them "looks" for Lamar Jackson because he watched film of Jackson and instead of sticking to the script, he went off-script to do the kind of stuff Jackson actually does...Hyde credited him after the game for helping them prepare Fair. McKenzie has certainly developed Big Time from when he got here, both as a receiver and a blocker So I suppose a lot of it is, do they have the want-to to put in the time and the work? I would really have liked Cordarelle Patterson but I suppose he's out of our price range
  4. Last season: Addison Bates Beasley Boettger Dodson Ferguson Gilliam Haack Kumerow Cam Lewis Obada Wallace Zimmer ----------------- 13 That's not counting guys who were mostly inactive or on practice squad like: Ankou Breida Bryant Gilles-Harris ----------------- 4 Now it's fair to say a lot of these guys are primarily STers or backups (Dodson, Ferguson, Gilliam, Haack, Kumerow) but ~5 of those guys were primary players at their positions most of the season (or until injured) So predictable....Even on Spring Ahead Sunday, I can set my clock by you
  5. Watching those highlights just never gets old. 'lil Dirty, you've come a long way as a WR, Baby. Is it really? 5-10 guys a year with McKenzie's skill set? I know there are a lot of guys who are training to be fast in the "underwear Olympics" but it seems like a lot of them are track fast and can't ball. Then there are the ballers who can't play that fast I guess if the average career lasts 3 years, you could name 15-30 guys with the skill set McKenzie has built?
  6. Wow, while you're right about the stat total being for both playoff games, Beasley had a fantastic game against the Chiefs by any metric. 6 receptions for 60 yds on 8 targets is a damned fine game for a WR who played less than 50% of the snaps in that game He also had a damned fine game against NO and the 2nd half against Tampa Those are all games that suggest his game can be what it was in 2020 when (whatever it was - the play calls, the defensive coverage, the alignment of stars) were right. Beasley's stats have always varied pretty widely from game to game depending upon the game plan and the defensive coverage Yes, on average they did fall off the last 11 games (after he got speared in Miami) but you seem determined to overlook the strong contributions he did have in that time period, which is just as blindered (IMO) as the folks who insist that there wasn't a drop off.
  7. I think Josh Reed may want to revise his prediction now that Brady is back in Tampa. Gronk is likely to follow Tahmmy
  8. Look it up https://www.pro-football-reference.com/players/M/McKeIs00/gamelog/ McKenzie started the 2021 season arguably #5 on the depth chart. It limited his playing time a lot, especially as we cut down on 4 and 5 WR sets. The point is, when he's gotten a chance to flash, he's flashed, it's not just one game. I don't think the Bills offered him 2 years, $8M if they thought he'd be #5 in 2022. Someone must think he's earned a shot. Weird comment, since the post that chap was responding to contained facts
  9. I do agree with people who say he's unproven as a full time slot and has much to learn, but just looking at this makes me happy. I have a soft spot for and am pulling for the 'lil guy
  10. Has one of his WR referred to him as "the white Dak Prescott" yet?
  11. The point is, the Patriots stunningly failed to adjust to what McKenzie was doing (running away from them in man) No argument that McKenzie has a lot to learn.
  12. McKenzie was inactive for two (2) games. What's this business of acting as though he were a healthy scratch half the games? McKenzie had 6.8 yds/tgt last year. While that's not fantabulous, it's also more than the 6.2 yds/tgt that Beasley had. Beasley averaged 43.3 ypg last year. McKenzie has something like 8 games where he exceeded that, and also 8 games with 4 or more receptions. So while he only has one stunning, 11 reception, 125 yd game, true, it's not as though it's the only game where he's shown up and contributed significantly.
  13. I think McKenzie wanted a fair shot at becoming a full-time slot WR. I think the fact that he signed indicates he feels he's in line for that opportunity
  14. There are rumors and Rumors. That there's a RUMOR!
  15. Who is this "we" ? The Bills ended February with negative cap space. Beane said it wouldn't be as tight as last year, and that we would look outside the roster to fill from some FA that are leaving. Last year we signed Sanders for $6M and Trubisky for $2.5. People who expect us to run out and sign Chandler Jones and Rob Gronkowski and trade for CMC are just nuts. They are setting themselves up, sure. Beane said this year would not be as tight as last year We can't go with the status quo. We have 1 1TDT and 1 3TDT on the roster (and most people want to wave "bye" to the 1T). We have 1 CB rehabbing his ACL and a 3rd year "zone only" small guy. We also have our LG (rehabbing an ACL) and our backup LG/C as FA Status quo not an option
