Discuss From NFL.com: Pick Analysis Round 2 • Pick 29 (61) The twitchy pass rusher from Wake Forest is a disruptive player at the line of scrimmage with violent hands and a diverse collection of moves. Basham is a high-motor defender with the potential to deliver an immediate impact as a starter in Sean McDermott's defense.

Run game? Or do you feel we're "good" with Motor, Moss, the addition of Breida as a "change of pace" guy, and possibly C Wade?

🙄 Whether or not you agree with it, the defensive philosophy of McDermott and of Frazier is that no DLman, especially no DT, is an every down player So when Oliver is playing 48-68% of the snaps, that's because their philosophy is to rotate DL Don't get me wrong, I like Justin Zimmer. I hope he takes a step, and I hope we have a place for him. I liked him when he peanut-punched Cam Newton, and I liked him even better when he damned near ran down Tyreek Hill from behind in the AFCCG. He's my guy. But the idea to trade a first round pick who (according to McDermott) was "playing very well" at the end of last season and who gets 50% of the snaps, in favor of keeping a guy who has bounced around 3 teams and managed to work his way up to 25-35% of the snaps, is just weird. He's no longer under contract after this season If you mean this season? No way, he'll stay.

Diggs played with torn oblique in playoffs?
Hapless Bills Fan replied to YoloinOhio's topic in The Stadium Wall Archives
I think you understood when you posted that it's not a nit, when you said "I fully appreciate that war metaphors are somewhat frowned upon when talking about a sport but that said, these guys truly are “warriors” " Yes, they're tough, and they play through some pretty awful painful injuries No, they're not warriors And frankly, even ordinary Jills and Joes holding down ordinary jobs work through some pretty rough injuries because if they don't work, they don't get paid and what we're paid is peanuts, relatively speaking. I believe Marv Levy said something to the effect of "Football isn't war. I've been to war. Football is a game." I get your point that a lot of guys on our team were playing through some nasty, painful injuries by the end of the season and in the playoffs There's still the point that if a guy is so injured he's ineffective, at some point it should be "next man up" -
Who is this "we" of whom you speak? Speaking for myself only, still not a Collinsworth fan. He along with Richard Sherman interviewed Beane after the season, and he 1) kept cutting Sherman off or talking over him which I thought was rude - if you're gonna have the guy on, figure out how to work with him nicely 2) implied that Beane was in a "cleft stick" because if he extended Allen, he might turn out like Goff or Wentz but if he doesn't, Allen is so engrained in the community with a wing of Oishei Children's Hospital named for his Grandmother, that it wouldn't go over well - just the way he phrased it and brought it up was, I thought, kind of tacky. Beane of course handled it beautifully saying "I do believe in Josh Allen, but we'll get through free agency and the draft and then look at extending players" PFF is right sometimes, but hey, even a busted clock is right twice a day.

Because everyone needs to hear a German polka band playing Van Halen today

The Packers had a top-10 rushing attack, no question on that point. I can't quite agree on the "no real investment". I think most people around the league view Sanders, even long in the tooth, as an upgrade to Brown. He's not as fast (when Brown is fully healthy), but health seems to be an issue for Brown and he's a good route runner. Sanders can make a DB leave his jock on the field and he's a real "open when covered" threat. Sanders was the only FA signed with a real investment of cap dollars. And of course, re-signing Williams, Feliciano, and Boettger, as well as stocking up on a couple FA OLmen and Hollister, can't be viewed as "imaginary" investment. Backup QB was also an investment but Allen I'm sure hopes that never comes into play

I don't think you'll find much argument there. On the other hand, this is silliness. It's like saying "if your center sucks because he needs decent guards to be successful, newsflash he just sucks" Funny how much better Eric Woods looked in 2015 playing between Incognito and Miller than he looked in 2014 playing between Pears and Urbik Trivia: Miller was much maligned here, but he is still in the league and started 14 games last season. Urbik and Pears, not so much.

Would you rather defend Diggs*Beasley*Brown*Davis or Adams*Valdez-Scantling*Tonyan*Lazard ? I know my answer. Beasley came within one injury of breaking 1000 yds and in his last 2 seasons would have been #2 in yards on GB. Brown had >1000 yds last year and arguably would have had another 800+ yd season Green Bay has a long history of cheaping it at the receiver position and asking Rodgers to do a lot, with a little. They're also way overdue for an investment on OL. We're starting from a different place, except at TE. And Sanders is at a different level as a WR. His worst season of the last 3 years would make him the #2 receiver on GB. We'll see. I'd actually like to see a C/G taken high and developed as a Morse replacement.

I don't know if anyone else caught the interview, was during the playoffs I think where Daboll (sounding a little testy) said "we have only one first round pick on offense" in response to a question. Now I think Beane most certainly counts Diggs as a first-round pick given that's what we gave up to get him, but the point stands. "To Whom Much is Given, Much is Expected" I think it's fair to say at this point our DL/D as a whole under-performed last season given the number of former first-rounders AND the amount of cap $$ invested in it. Time for all the top draft picks invested on DL (including AJ Epenesa last year, and Harrison Phillips) to step up, stand up, and deliver.

It's fair that you think this, but can you explain why? Jayson Oweh may be the classic "looks like Tarzan, plays like Jane" guy. There are numbers that get your attention, and Zero is one of them. Zero sacks. Doesn't that concern you, even a bit? The Ravens seem to be DL university, in the same way the Steelers were once "LB U" noted for developing LB, so maybe he will be the "Steal of the draft" as some are saying. Or maybe not. Azeez Ojulari was flagged as having a "degenerative lower leg condition" https://arrowheadaddict.com/2021/04/28/2021-nfl-draft-could-azeez-ojulari-fall-kc-chiefs/ He's also smaller, and profiled as a better fit at OLB. So you may rather have them, but at best, you need to 'splain why

I would actually love this pick for us.

Huh? No, it was a special NFLPA/NFL provision negotiated for last season and all indications are it won't be allowed this season. You can retire, but you can't press the "pause" button on your contract and collect $150,000. My personal guess is that barring injuries or unexpected competition in camp, Addison and Hughes stay with Epenesa and Rousseau as their understudies. There's a great book called "Sway" by Ori Brafman about "the irresistable pull of irrational behavior". There's a passage where he talks about the most significant predictor of playing time in the NBA. Turns out it's not per-minute productivity on the court, or practice performance by measurable metrics. It's where a player was drafted. I like Zimmer, Johnson, and what I know of Obada but they got their work cut out for them.

Addison and Hughes are both on the last year of their contracts. Allen can be extended with little to no impact on the cap this year, and possibly not too much next year depending upon how the contract is structured. I think the Bean-meister made it clear our first round pick could well be a guy we don't expect to start this season, but expect to start next year.
