  1. Nice 🤮 to hear that the most important Chiefs players and the Chiefs in general are all getting vaxxed up https://www.kansascity.com/sports/nfl/kansas-city-chiefs/article252228208.html Dolphins, New Orleans, and now Chiefs. Wonder how Tampa Bay is trending? The Bills do seem to be "unique" among top teams and our divisional competition in regard to how much "distraction" they are managing to bring upon themselves. 😥
  2. As noted upthread and now in message at top of the thread - this thread is open on the premise that people want a place to discuss the NFL/NFLPA protocols, not "Cole Beasley's Twitterfest and its Fallout Part Deux". If you posted a link or tweet about Bease deemed to be of general interest or humor, it may have been moved to the locked Beasley thread Otherwise, it will be hidden Have a Nice Day and don't let any Ticks bite your Arse
  3. In terms of ability to impact the game, it's hard to put any position above QB
  4. LOLOL at "Norman Rockwell meets Maplethorpe". I literally fell off my chair laughing. (Nah, they had golf carts, not golf course.) The "apply sunscreen and bug spray to WHAT?" part is actually why I decided "this is Just Not for Me". Clothing I can treat just seems like a simpler (and less irritating) way to keep ticks off my arsehole.
  5. I agree with you that "straightforward" can just mean enough thought hasn't been put into a complex issue. And certainly "well they failed there" is pretty much inarguable. I don't think that's his point exactly - more like "25% for it, 25% willing to do it after more "field testing" (pretty much where we are in the US at present), 25% who aren't enthused but may get it if it's made easy and/or if someone (like their employer) is pushing for it, and 25% who are "No Way, Never". I believe Breer has a number of "ins" with players and player's agents, so it's possible he has information here and is not just "making stuff up"
  6. I would respectfully suggest that Nassib (and possibly Instagram) has someone with a pruning sheers monitoring his account and "taking out the trash", as we do here. I'm not sure whether it's 10x or 50x or 100x more positive than negative comments makes a huge difference. There's the old business saying "One Awshit outweighs 10 Attaboys". Hopefully Nassib is past this, but to a young person just struggling with their sexual identity, if they're hearing or reading 1,000 comments 10 Hate-o-Grams can have a disproportionate impact. I mentioned upthread about a young man my kid attended school with, star Track athlete and football player, who came out in HS as gay, later went on to a D1 school, and wound up quitting football to work on his mental health. (He had been known as a "playa", a "get any girl he wants love 'em and leave 'em crying" type). His words might be relevant here: https://www.huffpost.com/entry/jake-bain-gay-high-school-football-player_n_5ab12094e4b0eb3e2b30c7bd (Trivia: this kid was the successor to Zeke Elliot at RB, same HS. Good athlete, but No Zeke Elliot)
  7. LOL No. They wear sunscreen and insect repellent; as one of them explained, we're nudists, not Stupid. You were supposed to bring a towel; "good form" was to sit on your own personal towel, always on the same side. As far as I could tell, this was pretty universally complied with. There were also spray bottles of disinfectant and paper towels around, in case you didn't want to rely on "towel compliance". And it wasn't exactly a ***** was frowned on, it was more like Guy to Guy, check if you're too focused on an attractive woman; you may be staring, making her uncomfortable. Maybe look or think somewhere else. Not confidence. I keep my word and pay my debts. There was a bet our swim-phobic friend won by going completely underwater in a popular public swimming hole. Significant alcohol consumption may have been involved, Heh. We did find it interesting enough to return a couple times, though.
  8. I would bet you $$ that if you had a transcript of replies on Nassib's social media and a recording of everything that will be said to Nassib over the next several months you would learn that is far from true. (Not intended to be expressing an opinion on the analogy to Jackie Robinson, which I agree is rather poor).
  9. I was just thinking it had gone pretty well - thanks in good part to @Simon and his magic shears
  10. I think a certain segment of straight men always bring up the "oh noes we can't shower with them" because either: 1) In their head, women are sexual objects to guys, and the idea of them being a sexual object to a guy freaks them out. They think they'd behave like jerks to naked women they were attracted to: stare, and say stuff, come on to them and get gropey if they could - so they project that the gay men would do likewise to them 2) They have a certain segment of personal curiousity and they're afraid of being turned on themselves One of the life experiences I'm glad I had (even though I decided it's not my thing) was visiting a local naturist club with a friend. For those unfamiliar, naturist clubs are "clothing not optional" places where people who don't like to wear clothes when going about their normal life can socialize, cook, shower, swim, play volleyball etc all while naked around other like-minded people. It's not a "swingers club" and sexual innuendo or behavior in public is looked down upon (though I wouldn't go to bail there weren't some hookups arranged and acted upon in private) So anyway, when we got there it was "woaoah there's a naked guy on that golf cart" and "oh, that woman and her daughters were naked" then after about 15-20 minutes the "not optional" part kicked in and it just became "normal" to be having a beer and chatting or playing pool volleyball with a bunch of people who happened to be naked - some very attractive, some not. The shower house was one big open room, men and women showered together and it was no big deal. I was told it was considered a bit "embarrassing" or "bad form" to get a ***** because it meant you were focused too sexually on someone else, when the point is just to be normal about being naked and social. I did wonder if they had any openly gay membership, but I didn't ask.
  11. As far as I can tell, Nazair Jones is a former 3rd round pick who played a bit for the Seasnakes for 2 seasons, got injured and IR'd in training camp his 3rd season (2019), and hasn't been on a roster or played since Anyone know anything about this guy? Eli Ankou has bopped around 7 different teams - so apparently he looks good enough to potentially contribute but can't quite break a starting lineup. He spent time on the Exempt list last season: "On October 19, 2020, Ankou was claimed off waivers by the Houston Texans and placed on the exempt/commissioner permission list.[12]" but I can't tell why
  12. I think this might be relevant to the discussion: https://www.theplayerstribune.com/posts/kordell-stewart-nfl-football-pittsburgh-steelers 1) 20 years ago is not so long ago in terms of generational change of attitudes 2) In this instance, the irony is that a hetero man was being asked to defend himself against rumors that he was gay, and it caused issues for him The point is, it's not so long ago that if a gay man was "living his life and doing what he does" and people found out, there's always the chance he was gonna be dealing with some version of this, or worse If Carl Nassib just started raising money for the Trevor Foundation, instead of "coming out" to his teammates and coaches and now the NFL and everybody, the chances are he could be dealing with some crap as well.
  13. See, they're even friends (I think this dog's name is "Marty Moose" They shaved it though
  14. Different circs . Ed was arrested on DWI which made his legal firearm illegal. When the DWI got thrown out (turns out he wasn’t) the firearm became legal again
  15. i think your experience might show gay men on team sports are less likely to be “out”. There was a star athlete in my kids grade school - set all kinds of records in track, played club football. Played football in HS, D1 scholarship. He was a “playa”, treated girls as objects. Then he came out as gay.
  16. He made it pretty clear what part of his motivation was, but I'll be happy to post it again for you: Why should he have to keep his personal life secret just to suit your preferences?
  17. Does it count as "in the NFL" if you never make a 53 man roster, let alone play a snap
  18. So you don't buy Breer's contention that "The protocols for unvaccinated people—given that there’s really been no change in the risk the virus presents, or how it is transmitted—were going to remain the same, absent COVID-19 altogether disappearing" What changes do you see between last season's protocols and this season's protocols (aside from changes for vaccinated players)? I can agree with your explanation here.
  19. Speaking on behalf of the TBD Mod Crew, we're, ah, Not Even A Bit Surprised My favorite: "If someone coming out makes you angry, you just might be an #######."
  20. I hope there isn't a sad story behind the timing here.
  21. {Mitch Trubisky sings Breakfast at Tiffanys to Dablitzkrieg}: And as I recall I think, we both kind of liked it And I said well that's, the one thing we've got
  22. In keeping with standard NFL policy, I"m going with no action this season while his legal troubles grind along, disciplinary action next season. https://www.msn.com/en-us/sports/nfl/chiefs-star-frank-clark-arrested-after-police-discover-uzi-in-lamborghini-truck/ar-AALhRtg It's California. I believe by virtue of being an Uzi, it's illegal whether he legitimately purchased and paid for it elsewhere or not https://www.answers.com/Q/Is_it_legal_to_own_a_uzi_gun_in_California
  23. Good points! I had these same questions myself. I think the preponderance of the evidence (and by now it's a reasonable set of studies) is that covid-19 infection conveys protection against re-infection that is at least as good as the 1-dose J&J vaccine, for at least 6 months. So if the 1 dose J&J vaccine allows the player to follow "vaccinated" protocols, I think say, a positive PCR test for Covid-19 that is less than 6 months and more than 14 days old, should permit the player or coach to follow the vaccinated protocols. Health authorities from several countries reached a similar conclusion and allow people who present the above to skip quarantine, similar to people who present proof of vaccination. We don't know exactly how long it lasts, but we don't know exactly how long immunity lasts post-vaccination at this point either, other than that it's at least 6 months. If there are objections that some people don't develop immunity, immunity could be verified by two different antibody tests (off a list of qualified tests) or a T-cell test. This would be cool as it would add to scientific knowledge about duration of immunity post-infection I think there's "reasonable agreement" (preponderance of evidence) about vaccination timing after covid-19 infection. What I suspect, is that the NFL and NFLPA are concerned about a policy like this encouraging vaccine-hesitant players to pursue the equivalent of "infection parties". Since there's building evidence that the incidence of serious side effects (blood clots, myocarditis) is significantly lower with vaccination than with infection, That would be Bad. But at some point, you can't craft policies designed for a group of Grown Ass Men without assuming they'll behave responsibly.
