  2. Well, we agree on that last sentence "Ideally, I'd like a better TE than both of them". I think backups on the best teams tend to be better players than starters on bad teams. That's why they're the best teams! We saw that movie in B'lo for years where we would pick up guys off other team's scrap heaps to start, and when we cut players no one would pick them up. I'm not saying Hollister is a star, but he's not a guy you can find "on any team" or a camp-fodder, depth guy. He's a legit NFL-caliber player. I think Hollister would probably have been starting on at least a dozen teams in the NFL his last 2 years. The numbers a TE puts up are heavily dependent upon the QB, the offensive scheme, and the receiving options. Lots of folks here are now "jonesing" over Logan Thomas, whose numbers were profoundly unimpressive his first 7 years in the league, but who finally got into a situation where he was one of the two best receiving options on the team and his QBs would look for the TE checkdown a lot. Gesicki is another TE who benefited by being one of the two best receiving options on Miami and having QBs who looked for the TE checkdown in Tua and Fitz. Seattle, on the other hand, has two legit top, 1000+ yd WR in Metcalf and Lockett. When he was the 3rd best option on their team in 2019, Hollister was putting up "Knox type" numbers. My point is, in evaluating the quality of TE play especially, you have to look further than # receptions and receiving yards. I can't speak for "people" or even "people here" but for myself, I've been impressed by some of the film I saw of Hollister with Seattle, and I think he was signed to be a contender to start at TE - a "shot across the bows" for Knox as it were. Now coming full circle, would I have liked to see us sign an upgrade to both of them, Absolutely
  3. Many football threads are over 10 pages at this point, and be real, Football News is sparse right now.
  4. Seriously? He's not only the millionaire superstar, he's OUR millionaire superstar. Go Bills!
  5. Yeah, NOT happening. Shady was cut following a 2 year downward trend...from 5.4 ypa to 4.0 ypa to 3.2 ypa; from back-to-back 1000+ yd seasons to a season where he barely broke 500 yds. Then, we drafted an RB in the 3rd. Beasley has been trending up the last 3 seasons, with last season his best ever, and the highest WR we've drafted has been I don't see much similarity to the McCoy situation.
  6. I thought it was funny, apparently my sense of humor differs
  7. I agree with @Teddy KGB What just happened? End of the World Predicted, News at 11.
  8. I think that Knox will receive every opportunity to lay claim to the starting TE job. But I think they have specific development they want to see from Knox, and if they don't see it, Hollister has shown he can play in the league the last 2 years with the Seahawks and has a track record of rappore with Josh. If they wanted JAG or someone to pad the tail of the roster during training camp, why go there? Citing Hollister "has been in the league 4 years" as a reason to diss his career stats is kinda silly IMO. He spent his first 2 years in NE, on a team that went to the SB 2x. They had this guy named "Gronkowski" playing TE there taking almost 100% of the snaps when he was active. I don't think it means you're a bum if you don't bump him down from the lineup. They also had a veteran blocking TE. Hollister played teams while he tried to master their playbook. The point is, if he's an "average run of the mill TE you can find on any team", how did he "stick" on a roster that was superbowl-bound and 1 injury away from counting on him for "next man up" or play on a Seahawks team that was in contention?

  10. OK, so if the point is Herbert had a better 40-time, vertical jump, and broad jump than Allen sure. Allen had a slightly better 3 cone drill and 20 yd shuttle...so even there "By every physical metric Justin Herbert is just a shade better than Josh" isn't quite true The thing is, not just Jordan Palmer but others are calling out Josh's physical talent for a reason. I'm not saying this to diss on Herbert because I was very impressed with what I saw last season. He was miles ahead of where Josh was as a rookie passer and even into his second season. Cool, collected, good progressions. He also had assistance Allen lacked, including a better OL than Josh had his rookie season and a stronger run game (independent of the QB). I haven't seen Herbert run like Allen can - the ability to make people miss, to elude people. It's been commented several places that Allen plays faster than his 40 time would suggest (in one interview with Pat McAfee, Allen responded "thank you, I think so too"). I personally feel that draftees rightly focus on their perceived gaps, leading up to the draft. Herbert had a big stage with the Rose Bowl appearance and didn't face the "inaccurate" label that dogged Allen, so I think he focused a bit on training for the "underwear olympics". Allen had "buzz" as a runner after his 2018 season at Wyo, and I think he focused pre-draft on improving his footwork and his throwing motion. But Allen also trains with the same speed coach as Russ Wilson and Deshaun Watson, and I think it shows. Not saying Herbert couldn't develop his running to run more like Allen but he hasn't shown it yet.

  13. I don't *think* defensive ends are allowed to punch the QB in the mouth, and I'm pretty sure the QB is allowed to stiff-arm or lower a shoulder into them Ooooh Truth hurts It's really a lose-lose situation for Haskins here, isn't it? If he hits back, he's committing DV and "A Real Man never, ever hits a woman". If he can't contain her and gets clocked, he's a wuss getting "sacked" by her.
  14. If she's a DI bball player, plenty tough. Women's basketball is a contact sport, no doubt. I dunno about hero (I don't see DV victims called "heros" very much...survivors maybe) But fair points that Haskins does not appear to have done anything wrong, other than to get engaged to (or married to) a violent female. From the OP link:
  15. The Chargers have a good team which IMO has been under-achieving for several years. Maybe I'm wrong there. It will be interesting to see whether Joe Lombardi's system suits Herbert as well, and whether Staley gets more out of the team. What does this mean?
  16. Agreed. Tough break for the Bengals and Burrow, but Herbert after Tua could be the 2020 version of Allen after Darnold OK, I'm sure Sam is a nice guy and had a tough break with the Jets, but the point was they traded up and used a #3 pick on him and 3 seasons later still needed a QB
  17. Um, No. Just because the door itself can't be opened in flight, does not mean you let a crazy person rampage around grabbing whatever they can get their hands on and ASSuming they can't somehow find a way to inflict damage on the door mechanism, some other part of the plane, or get their hands on something that would allow them to damage crew or passengers. Aircraft work amazingly well and reliably for complicated systems, but ordinary passenger aircraft were not overall designed to be resistant against deliberate attempts at damage from out-of-control passengers. They rely upon the passengers to be well-behaved and compliant with crew instructions. Fair enough. Be aware that multiple responses to the exact same post are neither rare here, nor considered a problem worth comment unless they are factually incorrect. Which is why it struck me as unusual.
  18. What's Your Point? People respond to posts they see without reading through the rest of the thread to see if someone else gave a good answer all the time. It's not something we try to control as usually (as true in this instance) there is a different explanation or some additional/different information. Different explanations work better for different people. Why post just to say that? It either seems personal or snarky.
  19. Ever since watching Diggs play with Bradford and Cousins throwing to him, my description of him was "covet". As in "I covet him as a WR for my Bills". Last offseason was weird to me in that the two WR I most coveted (Hopkins and Diggs) both got traded
  20. I think yes? Beane has talked about how pro football evaluators work to not vilify or glorify a guy over one game. Even in a down year with Kyle Allen throwing to him, Greg Olson was averaging 11 more ypg on a similar number of receptions/game. He is by far a savvier and more polished route runner and all-around TE. I imagine a year in the TE room with Olsen helped Dissly and Hollister develop, which is exactly what McDermott and Beane likely hoped for from Knox, Kroft, and etc in trying to bring Olsen here.
  21. The door won't open in flight because of the design of the door. Pressure hull aircraft doors are designed as plug doors - the door is actually larger than the fuselage opening. So it has to swing IN first, then rotate in some dimension (sideways or up) to swing through the smaller fuselage opening. That means the greater interior pressure works against opening the door. Same thing true of emergency windows - that's why the instructions say to pull the window IN first The fuselage does change shape in flight but that's materials science - the inevitable effects of temperature on the size of metals, for example - it's not what's holding the door closed.
