  1. Beane said further things were already factored into the cap, but he didn't know how much was out in public yet. Same overall $$ and length, but it may have been for more guaranteed money. More than half his money with the Commanders is guaranteed. There could also be more incentives, or they could be easier to earn
  2. That's....completely hysterical It's a truism that if you've got a true Franchise QB, you can win. Deshaun Watson is, in fact, that level of talent IMHO. So I guess the Browns will be investigating whether it's really true or not.
  3. I honestly don't think that's true.
  4. I thought Cousins contract was fully guaranteed. Edit: yes, I just looked it up. 3 yrs, 2 yrs, 1 yr, all fully guaranteed.
  5. It's Diggs, you just can't tell. If it is about Beane saying his contract isn't a priority, if tweeting an emoji is his reaction we're good. Hopefully if it is Allen and others will get in his ear and explain how Beane works. But it literally could be ANYTHING, and I mean ANYTHING.
  6. The Bills show on the "books" right now as having $16.9M cap with 5 contracts not yet "on the books" at OTC The Patriots show on the "books" right now as having$12.1M with 4 contracts not yet "on the books" at OTC. I don't know how those contracts compare in cap hit for this year, but the point is, I don't think one can tell what the cap situation really is right now. Bates has until April 22 to receive qualifying offers and let the Bills match.
  7. Yeah, my perception of Baker's past behavior is that faced with competition, he'll compete up to a point, but if he gets peeved, he'll "take his ball and go home" Maybe I'm wrong. I do think this whole episode will light a cosmic fire under his arse with his next team.
  8. Wait, which head is it you want ripped again?
  9. Mayfield on a 1 yr contract for $18.5M, coming back from surgery. Yeah.
  10. I think Watson is a true franchise-level QB talent. But this is a franchise-leveling haul to give up for him, both in terms of draft picks and in terms of cap space.
  11. Or maybe 3 teams.... Locked in view of the news Watson going to the Browns Interesting times
  12. The cap number from Spotrac should already reflect doing that, I believe - it only needs to be done once, and for the bottom most guy Same thing when people are like "no, you can't subtract 1.5M for because (same logic). The bottom guy only gets counted 1x, and all these cap hits are pushing him down. But I could be thinking about this incorrectly, in which case on a per-guy basis, when we add the 5 guys who aren't counted currently, we take $700k*5 or $3.5M off. We get OJ Howard cap-free 😂😛
  13. Great find! Love how he says he ate whatever was in front of him in college, but he felt the difference immediately when he changed.
  14. Ah, no you're missing the key piece of Wood. Wood scheduled a retirement presser, then backed off from using the word "retirement" because the Bills FO wouldn't commit to not asking him to forfeit his guarantees or give back part of his amortized signing bonus. Contracts are guaranteed for injury and skill, but not for retirement! So then a few months later, Wood reported to mandatory OTAs, the team physician gave him a physical and failed him, and the Bills released him with a failed physical designation. His salary and signing bonus were all his, because the Bills cut him for a football-related physical condition. THEN sometime after that, Wood retired. See, if you retire after you've been cut by the team, it doesn't affect your guarantees. Star being cut as of today, he can now retire. Team cut him first. Note: all my understanding, developed from what I read at the time of Wood's retirement. Teams can, of course, choose to say "keep it" as the Colts did with Luck.
  15. I don't know, the link I posted could be wrong and your intel was right
  16. Just a little note that according to Joe B, the $3.5M cap hit Spotrac has for Howard is wrong: So add $625k to that $16.9 then subtract out $4.22 for Saffold: $13.3 at present
  17. [This is an automated response] As a courtesy to the other board members, please use more descriptive topic titles. A single name if far too vague to post as a title and provides little insight into what specifically the post is talking about. The topic starter can edit the topic title line to make it more appropriate. Thank you.
  18. We have Saffold now. Reported by Greg Tompsett of Cover1. So $16.9M - $4.2 = $12.7M following release of Star, inclusion of Howard, Settle, and Saffold. Still missing: Miller, Jones, Lawson - Question - do we have Jordan Phillips? EDIT: after perusing Spotrac I think the above does NOT include Phillips, so I will add him to the title Have you had a look at the AAV for a guard recently?
  19. I hope they're an upgrade. I do remember that when we replaced Shaq Lawson and the 3 yr, $30M, $20.8M guaranteed contract he signed with Miami by signing Mario Addison for 3 yr, $30.4M, $13.2M guaranteed - people looked at the stats and felt it was an upgrade. Likewise, when we replaced Jordan Phillips and the 3 year, $30M, $14.5M guaranteed contract he signed with AZ with Vernon Butler for 2 years, $15M with $9.3M guaranteed AND Q Jefferson for 2 yrs, $13.5M, $6.3M guaranteed And maybe it was - I believe we got more out of Addison than Miami got out of Shaq, and we got more out of Butler (though playing out of position in 2020) than Miami got out of Phillips, who struggled with injuries there. But it wasn't what we thought we were getting at the time of the signing.
  20. I don't think it's that simple, when it's a matter of professional football. It's somewhat analogous to saying a RG should just do what he's asked and play LG. Some can adapt and some can't.
