  1. I think they go with Webb on the PS, because apparently he spends his week being a Junior Coach and Utility Player on the Scout Team, who, Oh yeah, can probably play QB in a pinch. I think they were trying to showcase Fromm for a trade to a QB needy team. 7 round pick, Incoming! I think the idea is especially for a young player, there's a different "feel" to the game when "they're coming for you!" and can knock the stuffing out of you Vs when you're wearing a red jersey and the whistle will blow if they get too close.
  2. Fair enough. But the counter argument is that when a team sets out to stifle the pass - as the Bills did in their first meeting with the Chiefs and were "successful" with to the tune of "only" 225 yds ....if that team still makes 245 rushing yards, as the Chiefs did, it has two effects: 1) the opponent still sustained several long drives culminating in a TD, so the pressure is on our offense to score points 2) the opponent may dominate TOP unless the Bills also manage to sustain long scoring drives, meaning they're keeping our potent O off the field In running the ball for those 245 yds we couldn't stop, the Chiefs dominated TOP 37:45 to 22:15. The end result is we had to score more points in less time. It didn't work out too well for us. I don't know that I agree that it was a good plan. If our offense had been patient in return, able and willing to sustain long drives and able to score a TD instead of a FG, it might have worked better, but when our O was having trouble finding a rhythm we had nothin'
  3. Left. Pics of the "insta"?? Though I'm willing to believe that an injury which allows you to hold an 8-10 lb baby may not suffice to enable ball security when a 220 lb linebacker or a 180 lb CB smashes into you or yanks on it.
  4. https://fivethirtyeight.com/features/the-best-interior-run-defenders-probably-wont-make-your-defense-better/ Josh Hermsmeyer Nate Silver, who founded 538, is probably an analytics geek's analytics geek. Discuss. They created a new metric called "Run Stop Wins over Expected" OK, let's do a little "basic numbers" benchmarking. The Jets had a good run D by Y/A - 6th best at 4.0 YPA. 4.0 YPA moves the chains. But they were 24th in rushing attempts against them - 445 They were also tied (22-26) in passing Y/A against them and 28th in total passing yards against them, and passing attempts. That kind of suggests to me that maybe they were pretty good at run D because teams were just passing all over them. But I know others here have talked about the waning importance of run-stuffing defensive linemen, so maybe I'm simplistic.
  5. I think you're on to something here. One of the hallmarks of Daboll's offense is he likes positional flexibility in his WR. (Sometimes he likes it so much that he sees it in players who have it not). But I think we're going to see more mixing-and-matching of receiver roles than the traditional X, Y, Z receiver nomenclature implies. After last season, we needed him to take a step. He looked very good yesterday, if that translates to the regular season you could be correct.
  6. Two possibilities are Harrison Phillips and Tommy Sweeney. The former depends upon info we don't have about what his injury really is. BangedupBills suggested LCL or MCL sprain. If it took a while to get the swelling down, they were probably only starting to get to grips with his real timeline towards the end of last week, but if it's (say) a month to heal and 2 weeks to rehab, putting Phillips on IR for 3 games (plus 2 weeks until the opener and a week until game 4) would be perfect. The speculation on Sweeney is that he may have had a Jones fracture last season. Those do re-injure (see Watkins, Sammy). He went out after the Lions game, so he's already had 2 weeks; if they like what they saw from him enough and feel they'd like to stash him on IR but have the option to bring him back mid-season, they do need to put him on the initial 53. Just my opinion, but I don't think pointing at starts for an DLman is particularly helpful, since a lot of teams use a heavy rotation.
  7. I think the Jets badly need help at DE with all their injuries, and if they can trade and assure themselves that they get that help vs. waiting and rummaging through the cutout bin, it's a good use of a late round pick and a Win for both sides. Possible Phillips was still impacted by injury. Or possible he'd just much rather be playing golf.
  8. That was the viewpoint of some here - that he was working his butt off to "get paid" and 2020 Lawson wouldn't have been the same guy as 2019 Lawson. But we don't get to rewind and find out
  9. I See No Lies. The only way it would make sense is if Minshew basically demanded it and wasn't taking his demotion well, and they felt locker room chemistry would benefit from bringing in someone else (either with a similar low-level trade or from the cutting room floor). Kyle Allen from Washington strikes me as a potential candidate - a guy who has shown he can play decently on 2 NFL teams, but perhaps without the "swag"
  10. No word yet, and I know you're funnin', but as a whole since they don't seem much understood, injury settlements are pretty straightforward: -The team and the player agree on the duration of the injury in question. This is the most contentious part, as the team may argue for the shortest duration of the window suggested by a "standard" injury while the player and his agent may get a second opinion that comes back with a much lengthier time. -The player then gets his weekly "game check" salary during the duration of the injury -The player is entitled to medical treatment and rehabilitation at the facility of his choice. -No "double dipping" - if the player is signed by another team before the end of the settlement period, he has to pay that part back. Hard to say exactly what the settlement would be, but let's guess 6 weeks if it's serious. Duke was set to get $24,444/week, so I think how it works is he gets the rest of his "per diem" and housing allowance from training camp (1 week), then one "gap week", then 4 weeks of game checks or $97,776, plus the team pays the tab for his medical treatment and rehab.
  11. Have we had a link to Cover1's analysis yet? https://www.cover1.net/studs-and-duds-buffalo-bills-green-bay-packers/ Their "Studs" are Josh Allen, Star Lotulelei, Siran Neal, and Boogie Basham. Had this to say about Neal: Duds include Cornerback Depth. Had this to say: He also had Davis Webb down as a dud: My feeling is that the Bills decided they knew what they had in Webb after a solid showing vs. the Lions, and that putting him with the 3rd or 4th string OL and WR did hm no favors. I think they were showcasing Fromm to see if they could get a pick for him - Hey, it worked for the Bills with AJ McCarron in 2018
  12. And that's fine, but I think we need an upgrade, which would probably come in the form of a guy with enough experience to be kept on the roster.
  13. Agreed. So last year we had 6 WR + 4 TE counting Gilliam, 10 total If we keep 7 WR + 2 TE + Gilliam that would still be 10 total We get the extra offensive slot to keep 4 RBs including Taiwan Jones, by only keeping 2 QBs. The real question is I feel we ought to keep 6 each at LB and CB. 1) how do we square that with the Glut at DE and DL? I don't see keeping 11 DLmen as an option, really.
  14. We can't cut an injured player; they may have negotiated an injury settlement. From Buffalobills.com, which admittedly isn't always correct: 08/23 Signed RB Kerrith Whyte and CB Tim Harris. Placed OL Forrest Lamp on injured reserve and WR Duke Williams was waived/injured. Neither Williams nor Lamp are listed on IR. Ah, here we go. August 26, Lamp injury settlement: https://www.cbssports.com/fantasy/football/news/bills-forrest-lamp-works-out-injury-settlement/ And Duke Williams injury settlement: https://www.cbssports.com/fantasy/football/news/duke-williams-settles-out-of-buffalo/ No details for either as to the length of the injury settlement. General reminder: neither can not re-sign with Buffalo for (regular season part of injury settlement) + 6 weeks
  15. Duke was waived/injured but no one claimed him so he reverts to the Bills IR. I don't think Lamp was cut, he was just put on IR, but I could be wrong there.
  16. I think Stevenson put far too much on tape to get through waivers onto the PS. Some WR-needy or injury stricken team will snipe him for sure, like we did McKenzie when Denver tried that. I don't think Kumerow makes it through waivers either. Beane did say that keeping 7 WR and 1 less TE is an option. I think that was a statement actually enabled by Kumerow, because while he doesn't have the "heft" of a TE, he has the height, and he can block both in the backfield and downfield (and play teams).
  17. I'm trying to find the stats, but I thought when Milano is healthy the Bills play dime about the least in the league, because Milano fills the role of a dime CB? I tried to look it up on Sharp Football Stats but oddly, when I chose Defense and "personnel grouping frequency" I still got the offensive groupings!!!! Anyway, I know the Bills most common defensive personnel set is Nickle, which means they commonly have 2 LB and 3 CB on the field. It seems the number of players on the roster at least ought to reflect that reality. 6 LB and 5 CB does not.
  18. for people wondering what you meant. "Drama" seems like a singularly tone-deaf and inept way to describe a large number of civil and criminal accusations, Yes.
  19. That would be because the Bills roster at present seems very thin at CB.
