  1. even the announcers commented that officiating is taking center stage
  2. who ya got? kind of have a soft spot for Raiders, but head says Bengals
  3. Vegetable oil (other than soybean and coconut) is a relatively new product (in the timeline of Chinese history) so that's why I ask. It doesn't surprise me that most restaurants in the US use veg. oil but lard would likely have been used all over China until relatively recently (1900s or later) If lard causes you issues, I would for sure not assume and would ask what oil is being used to fry.
  4. No, I definitely have mixed feelings about Daboll. At times I think he's brilliant and innovative, at times I think he's too addicted to gidgets and gadgets, and overall his "Low Interest Rate" at run game success (until we were totally embarrassed without a run game 3x) is frustrating to me. That's pretty well where I am.
  5. What's wrong with cooking with lard? Are you a vegetarian? Very typical of traditional Chinese country cooking from what I understand, where a lot of the fat would come from the family pig.
  6. It was pretty clear to me, from listening to how Daboll's post-game pressers have evolved, that McDermott sat down with him and had a chat at some point. Josh told a story about his rookie season where he made a different throw than he was supposed to in practice, and Daboll started screaming at him in his helmet. Said that he came to the sideline and Daboll was still red-faced and yelling. Said eventually Daboll calmed down, went away, then thought about it and came back and started up again. That's a freakin' waste of time and energy. I don't think Daboll does that now. I think a turning point may have been around game 4 of 2019 vs NE. On the one hand, Allen has revealed that he sat down with Beane and McDermott and had a private conversation where he made commitments to them to change some things. On the other hand, after that game, where Daboll was seen chewing Josh out on the sideline, Daboll moved upstairs. Gradually I noticed a shift in Daboll's pressers. After that game he was calling various people out - "maybe the throw is a little low but we have to catch it" (Beasley) "we can't have problems with the QB-Center exchange" (Morse) as well as Josh for the INTs. I don't think I've heard him do that since, and he's become more interactive with the press where he calls them by name and asks how they are and so forth. Anyway, I think McDermott laid it out for Daboll what the "growth mindset" means to him in coaching players and how he behaves with it, and it's something Daboll has worked on.
  7. I was wondering. Thanks for finding this. Anyone else got any info about Allen's crew?
  8. I thought that had been debunked by the guy who supposedly quoted him as saying it (Lombardi?) Bill Belichick is apparently noted for sarcastic digs at his players - "my mom could do that" "we could get a guy from the gas station who could get that done" "Foxboro high school gets that right all fall". But what players will "take" and be motivated by from a GOAT coach wearing 6 Superbowl rings does not necessarily have the same "cachet" coming from Belichick's former LB coach and his 24-25 record. Harrison Phillips commented on Frazier's sly layered sense of humor and little digs, but noted that when it's serious coaching, he's all "growth mindset": "this is our standard, how can we get you there?"
  9. Maybe all this stuff is just Flores excuse for being seen as under-achieving and shown the door. No one has indicated that Tua hasn't followed rules, or has been a jerk with teammates and coaches, or in fact hasn't worked. As I noted, playing golf for maybe 3 hrs once a week is probably not going to make or break his career vs. what he does in the other 165 hours there are in a week. Most people need a little down time to clear their heads and return to the full-bore grind.
  10. These young QBs don't walk in the door after the draft knowing how to prepare and how hard to work in the NFL. If Flores isn't satisfied with Tua's work habits and ethics, what did he do to get to know Tua and persuade him that he cared about his success, or to keep energized players with great work habits around him in the QB room, and to guide and teach him? Does he meet with Tua every week as Allen says he meets with McDermott? Lest we forget, there were hints that after the Vikings victory, perhaps our QB didn't focus and prepare as he should have, only to get embarrassed completely against Green Bay the following week. When I say "hints" I mean Eric Wood saying stuff about "needing to prepare consistently every week" on his segment which seemed pretty pointed at Allen. The QB room was rookie Allen and Nathan Peterman. Beane went out and signed Derek Anderson, not so much for his QB chops, as for his willingness to demonstrate an appropriate work ethic and habits. Allen told a story about getting to the facility early (he thought), and finding that Anderson was already there lifting and telling them he'd be in the film room if they wanted to join him after they finished their lifts. Daboll has made the point that until a player believes that you care about them as a person, they aren't going to listen to you as a coach. All that said....a round of golf takes what, 2 hrs? Maybe half an hour travel time on each end? If Tua isn't preparing well enough, It's likely to be the other 165 hrs in the week that are the problem, not taking 3 hrs a week to play golf. Allen has talked about taking time off to play video games, or have friends over, or take his puppy for a long walk.
  11. Have you really? Where OL not fixed Dion seems to have returned to form, though I don't discount the impact that perhaps Bates works more smoothly with him? Bills seem to be using more gap run concepts that make better use of our OL's strengths Bills also making use of extra OLman more often, and seem to have taken the viewpoint Doyle > Sweeney as a 2nd TE given that Sweeney didn't pull his weight as a receiver OR a blocker.
  12. That's really not a good characterization of Pro Football Reference. They are a well-known NFL statistics site which aggregates established statistics.
  13. I dunno, Goat, they lost me at "seven different machine learning models". I note that some football cognoscenti feel that a sack can be as significant as a turnover to offensive productivity. So I absolutely feel it should be included in evaluating QB performance. I don't know what "face validity" means, but I know why I criticize ESPN "total QBR" and PFF ratings: they are "Frankenstats" where the calculations (and even the metrics on which they are based) can not and will not be simply and objectively explained; they are proprietary. In the case of total QBR it's said to involve 10,000 lines of code. I do know what "seven different machine learning models" means: it means no one, including the creators, can explain exactly what it's doing. We'll see.
  14. Because 67.6% completion and a passer rating of 92.5 is so much better than 67.8% completion and a passer rating of 90.1 That's 217 net yds per game for Jones and 202.2 net yds per game for Tua As far as the story, I think it sheds light on why many of Belichick's assistants haven't made the grade as HCs. Apparently Belichick has a known, sarcastic sense of humor that uses comments like "Foxboro HS has been getting those snaps right all year" or "I could bring in 2 guys off the street who could handle that" as coaching tools. That probably plays better coming from a 6x Superbowl Champion/arguably GOAT coach than from a guy who is just getting started or who has a 24-25 W-L record over 3 years.
  15. Doesn't that go to the GM's account? Did he get fired too? And with that 20/20 hindsight thing going on....Darnold ahead of Allen isn't looking too smart
  16. Most of the references above in this story: https://spectrumlocalnews.com/nys/buffalo/news/2022/01/13/bills-low-down-on-expected-low-temps?cid=app_share
  17. I think that goes with the territory of being a new HC. I thought McDermott made some awful calls his first season here, and there are still some I question but overall I feel he's improved. Given more time, Culley probably would improve as well
  18. I had that thought, but then, a lot of the issues seem to be miscommunication on option routes so the WR isn't where Josh expects (or the ball isn't where the WR expects), balls being tipped, catchable balls not being caught, and Josh being chased around the backfield like a chicken when there's a Jailbreak on OL. It's hard to lay all that at the feet of the "Passing Game Coordinator" Believe we didn't have one, Daboll filled that role.
  19. Like other forums, folks would ignore the sub-forum and continue to post their queries here "No" to cotton. "Cotton is rotten". If you wish 2 layers of socks, both wool IMO. Make sure your boots aren't tight with whatever quantities and qualities of socks you wear. Loose boots that allow your feet to move are good. Chemical toe and handwarmers work well.
