  1. I don't like it either, but it's to be expected.
  2. That's right, when your assertion falls flat on its face, resort to criticizing the person as opposed to trying to back up your statement. As I always say: there's no reason to make up arguments for which to criticize the organization; they've given plenty of reasons throughout the last 15 years. It just so happens that there haven't been nearly as many in the past 2 years as in prior years, so some folks that have become so accustomed to being able to criticize every single thing they do now have to reach a bit in some instances. Your desire to criticize this particular pick is apparently so strong that you're willing to completely ignore the extreme likelihood that Shaq returns to full health this season, and instead lambaste the pick because he's going to miss 4-6 games. In the meantime, you've failed to provide a response to even the simplest question on the subject: what would you have done?
  3. I don't like it when players hold out, but I understand it. That said, Gilmore hasn't held out, and there doesn't seem to be any strong indication that he will.
  4. I'm really trying not to get too excited. I'd like him to prove you right, but I'm too cautious in throwing that much confidence behind any Bills' QB
  5. There certainly wasn't any greater correlation between passing yards and winning than rushing yards and winning in 2015: Passing yards – playoff teams ranked 2nd, 3rd, 5th, 11th, 14th(Denver),15th, 18th, 20th, 24th(Carolina), 25th, 30th, 31st Passing YPA – playoff teams ranked 1st, 2nd, 3rd, 4th, T-6th (Carolina), T-6th, T-6th,11th, T-18th, T-21st (Denver), 28th, 29th Rushing yards – playoff teams ranked 2nd(Carolina), 3rd, 4th, 6th, 8th, 12th, 13th, 15th, 16th, 17th (Denver), 20th, 30th Rushing YPC – playoff teams ranked T-3rd, T-3rd, 7th, 8th, T-9th(Carolina), T-11th (Denver), T-11th, T-11th, T-21st, T-28th, T-28th, T-28th Actually, upon reviewing the data further, only 2 of the teams that ranked in the top 10 in passing attempts made the playoffs (NE and Houston), while 5 of the 7 teams with the fewest passing attempts made the postseason (Minnesota, KC, Seattle, Carolina, Cincinnati). Perhaps there's an inverse correlation between passing and winning.
  6. Yes it worked If it's your opinion that the waiver wire pickup who didn't start a single game and was forced into action in the playoffs due to injury that pushed them over the edge, then so be it. My opinion is that the guy often touted as one of the best CBs ever to play the game, who started 16 games and had 14 PBUs had far more to do with their success that season than the guy that made one single play. And you're completely missing the point, which is that the best teams in the league often shell out huge dollars to CBs. And it's worked. If you want to debate the merits, by all means feel free to offer something beyond "well that one guy made that one play".
  7. Continuing the theme from OTAs. If this kid has to play as a rookie, forget any chance of winning.
  8. I'd probably go as high as a 5th round pick
  9. I think Monroe is basically as high as I'd go for a RT. The team showed last year that they can run the ball effectively with what amounted to patchwork on the right edge. Obviously I'd prefer to have a good pass protector like Monroe over there, but yeah, he's basically pushing the limit of what I'd pay.
  10. They drafted Ronnie Stanley in the top 10 and want to get younger along the OL. They also have Ricky Wagner and James Hurst, in whom they've shown confidence
  11. Oh for sure--I posted that to confirm your suspicions
  12. http://www.spotrac.com/nfl/baltimore-ravens/eugene-monroe/ Looks like his new team would get him at base salaries of $6.5M, $6.75M, and $6.75M for the next three seasons if they didn't touch his contract.
  13. He's signed for high-end RT/low-end LT money right now, so I'd entertain the idea provided that they can get out of the deal in a year or two if a cap crunch occurred
  14. Paula's donuts
  15. You're above this level of obfuscation They paid him huge money in an attempt to win a super bowl--it worked
  16. Then why do championship teams like NE and Seattle pay huge dollars to Revis and Sherman?
  17. The contract means the same thing as it does to the team, who can cut the player at any time. This isn't new, and it's not going away. And yes, absolutely, they're kids. Gilmore is 25 years old; he's got 2/3 of his life left (provided he can get out of football without serious injury). Perhaps you think he has no right to try to maximize the amount that he earns while he's in his physical prime; that's for you to decide. I happen to think he has not only the right, but the responsibility to himself, his family, and future generations of both his family and NFL football players to maximize his value, as long as he does it in a professional manner. He's under contract, and he showed up to the mandatory minicamp even though he's recovering from surgery. What, exactly, is the problem here?
  18. First off, he hasn't held out. Secondly, do you really mean--in light of all the research being done as to the long-term health effects of this game--to marginalize the idea that these kids need to get as much money as they can while they can get it?
  19. Yep...less than 3 weeks later he signed a deal with $55M in guarantees
  20. He shouldn't show up if he doesn't intend to sign the tender. Although I have to say, the best thing he could do would be to sign the tender, then he forces their hand. Right now they don't have to do anything because he's unsigned and not there.
  21. Hah! Yep. Pretty sure that pattern emerged in the Dareus and Incognito deals, though not so much in the Hughes and Glenn deals.
  22. Go ahead, explain how...this should be amusing. True--guys don't typically hold out after showing up for minicamp. Just out of curiosity, who do you think has missed more games due to injury in their 4-year careers: Gilmore or Josh Norman? No cheating.
  23. His agent would never get another client if he allowed that to happen. The guy is a former top-10 pick that is widely viewed as a No. 1 CB.
