Milano and Edmunds OUT against Miami

Possibly. You’re probably getting mostly Dodson and Klein though. You may also see Addison play some Sam. Don’t freak out though; this is the kind of situation that teams should be better prepared for than ever—what if the position group got COVIDed? You have to assume they are ready.- 411 replies

Yup. One of the things that drove me nuts last year was watching Daboll’s failures in both NE****** games to do that. Yes, Belichick likes to take away what you do well, but the easy counter was to get the ball to backs and TEs early and often to take advantage of NE’s total lack of speed at LB and desire to take away Brown/Beasley. Didn’t happen and Allen started trying too hard. With the cast of playmakers on this roster, there’s no reason that the game plan can’t always feature some type of rhythm attack to get Allen comfortable. Because—as you say—once he is, he’s absolutely money.

I know it’s practice I know it’s in shorts I know it’s without a pass rush But that is an absolute dime

Bill Belichick's mother passed away

I remember when my mom died; I wouldn’t wish that on my worst enemy—which happens to be Belichick. Godspeed coach, my prayers to you. -
There are no gimmies in the NFL. That said, unless Miami’s safeties and LBs are prepared to handle their business in coverage, it could be a long day. I would bet that they’re going to try to man up against Diggs and Brown with Howard and Jones, which means Beasley, Knox, and the backs get zone matchups that Allen should be able to exploit with the extra time in the pocket. Unless Miami chooses to blitz, in which case that’s where a guy with the short area quickness of Beasley is so valuable. Without LB help underneath, he’s going to put most slot corners through the meat grinder. Same goes for Knox—if you don’t bracket him, he can get over the top on you and use his size. Defensively, Parker better be healthy, otherwise I don’t see anyone that’s a threat to get open consistently in man coverage. Also, I think their OL is still a weak point, which is more of a problem for them in the run game than passing since Fitzy can quick trigger, but only if guys are open.

The main difference in the pass game Sunday.
thebandit27 replied to JerseyBills's topic in The Stadium Wall Archives
To me, the big difference is that the team has a WR1, so it’s awfully difficult to scheme to cover the secondary options like Brown, Beasley, Knox, etc. -
You've got to know Belichick. He’s going to try to take away the thing that you do best. We’ll see what that is come NE****** week, but right now it looks like the quick-hit pass game. To me, that means he’s going to play press coverage and use his OLBs and DEs to bang the slot WRs and TEs to disrupt timing, while throwing interior blitzes at Josh. He’ll want to force Josh to hit some big plays early and not let him get into a rhythm. I could definitely see Buffalo dialing up a a few shot plays early, but I also suspect that an “easier” answer to that would be to spread them out and use matchup advantages at RB and on the boundary. I’d also look to the screen game to create a few chunk plays—because you can PA pass off that action later in the game.

This is how it has been since his rookie season. He’s not a big part of the offense; he is the offense.

Is the "read option" by the Bills something you like?
thebandit27 replied to LB48's topic in The Stadium Wall Archives
I think we need to define “read option” better in order to answer the question... Read option plays—as far as the Bills run them with Daboll and Allen—are typically either a zone read or an RPO. Both involve the QB reading a key defender and making a decision with the ball. In the case of a zone read, the key is typically a front 7 EDGE defender, and the choice is to keep the ball and run or hand it to a back; predicated upon whether the EDGE defender stays wide or crashes down the line. In an RPO, the key is typically a back 7 boundary defender, and the choice it to hand it to a back or keep it and throw; predicated upon whether the defender stays home or attacks the run action. Both are read options, and both are good plays for a QB like Allen to have in his repertoire. On a day like Sunday, however, when the zone read clearly isn’t working, you need to be able to adjust. -
Where the Heck Was Oliver All Day?

Indeed. There were higher picks that were inactive though. And not due to injury. -

Curious: were there any other players drafted higher than AJE that didn’t play a snap yesterday despite being completely healthy? -

Thank you. I’m not sure if the OP forgot what number Oliver wears, but 91 was everywhere yesterday. There’s a reason that Darnold was constantly breaking the tackle box and throwing from outside the hashes. -
This is a good time to point out McDermott’s love for positional flexibility...note that Siran Neal has played LB, and could be an emergency option as a coverage ‘backer if needed. And Addison played Sam last year for Carolina. If he has to take some snaps there, AJE gets activated and takes snaps at DE.
