  1. That’s Ben for ya; he LOVES former tackles that play interior positions like a tackle 🤣 Played OT at Stanford. UDFA who was a washout but found his way as a writer.
  2. Muth’s columns should be required reading for anyone learning about blocking schemes and techniques. He does a phenomenal job of making it simple.
  3. Yes, I watch the all-22. Every week. Twice actually. But that isn’t really the point. If your premise here is “but they have a formula”, then my response is “well I have my eyes”. And I can absolutely, 100% guarantee that 32 out of 32 head coaches would agree that Allen’s week 2 performance was a great deal better than Darnold’s.
  4. And if their grades came within a light year of matching the eye test, that’d be one thing. They don’t match either the raw stats or the eye test a huge amount of the time. I interviewed Grads when he was in college. Good dude honestly.
  5. What if I’ve read their contrived nonsense for years and years, about how “no no you see, NFL coaches consistently realize how PFF is right and they’re wrong”, only to see ridiculous rankings that put an absolutely 💩show performance ahead of a 417 yard, 4 TD day? Should I still read yet another 💩piece from them?
  6. I’m sorry, but any analysis that puts Sam Darnold ahead of Josh Allen for week 2 of the 2020 season is deeply, deeply flawed.
  7. Bad news; we need him this week. If he doesn’t go, I suspect you’ll see Diggs in the slot and Davis outside a fair amount.
  8. The fumble is on the All-22, and he hopped right on up afterward, so my guess would be that it happened on a subsequent play, but who knows?
  9. Yup. I’ve said it all week: gotta disrupt their timing; whatever it takes. Having Edmunds and Milano will really help because they’re good enough athletes to get into their drops even if they have to be used at the LOS at times. I wonder what McDermott and Frazier have cooked up to keep Woods and Kupp from getting free releases...I’ve floated the idea of using Neal and/or Jaquan over the WR with the CB playing off coverage, which would (theoretically) also give you an advantage against the run, but I’m very curious as to what two very smart football minds will concoct.
  10. That’s their defensive yards/play allowed ‘zactly...that’s why the Rams are going to start in zone and hope their pass rush gets home and that their LBs can squeeze enough space out of the middle to prevent Bease and the TEs from going to work. Because if Allen sits back there and picks them apart, and they have to resort to blitzing, they’re in trouble.
  11. You know I always look at yards per play... The Bills rank 12th with 5.3 The Rams rank 13th with 5.4
  12. I think this is a potentially HUGE game for Beasley. With the Rams presumably putting Ramsey on Diggs and rolling help to Smoke, Beasley has a major opportunity to abuse their interior zone. I assume they’ll try to use LBs to occupy space and prevent middle hooks, but that allows Bease to sit down over the middle and create space on whip routes. Assuming Josh can hit those plays early and often, you have to assume the next move is to blitz and not allow him the time to let Beasley work, and that’s when you can kill them with the passes to backs and TEs.
  13. It’s just as much about finding a way to be physical with their WRs and do whatever’s necessary to prevent free releases off the LOS. Whether that means playing a safety over a WR and using a corner in bail technique or having a guy like AJE crashing on Higbee. Keeping Goff from being able to drop/set/throw in rhythm is critical. If you can compound it with good coverage disguise that’s even better. Actually every corner not named Ramsey is suspect. Troy Hill was solid as a rookie, but has tailed off since.
  14. ‘10’ sets really put Allen in a position to succeed; he will usually get man coverage looks, and the vertical stretch gives him the option to take it himself for a chunk play. Smart coaching
  15. Because they are a very talented team with a good coach that has been playing good football. The Bills are very good; they haven’t earned the reputation as a world beater because they beat the Jets by 10 and Dolphins by 3.
  16. This will not be an easy game. The key is going to be stuffing the run and putting good, solid chucks on their WRs. You absolutely must disrupt the timing of their passing offense and keep Goff from getting into a rhythm. I feel pretty secure in knowing that they’ll have a plan to limit Aaron Donald (obviously you aren’t going to neutralize him completely), so WRs and TEs winning 1-1 matchups will be critical. Ramsey is by far their best corner; I wouldn’t feel great about leaving Hill or Darious Williams on Smoke without help. Johnson is a solid safety—loved him coming out of BC a few years ago—but man coverage isn’t his strongest asset. I’m thinking that Bease can get some volume early and often, which would force either the ILBs to loosen up and open more opportunities for the backs, or Johnson to walk down closer to the box and leave Smoke 1-1.
  17. Folks need to understand that McDermott has always coached to win. He obviously felt that, prior to now, his best chance at winning was to protect the football and play ball control. Now that he’s got more talent on offense, he can coach a different game.
  18. A modern day Jimmy Johnson, he is
  19. The best moment for me is when Allen trots onto the field down 24-20 in the 4th, promptly drops a beautiful 50-yarder in the bucket to Diggs, and when Kroft gets all amped up in his face, Allen’s all “yeah okay man, here’s some love, but frankly I expected that and we’ve got work to do”. There are things that only franchise QBs do. Walking onto the field in the fourth quarter when you haven’t scored a point or gained a first down in 24 minutes of play and proceeding to throw for 150 yards and 2 TDs like it’s no big deal is one of them.
  20. Discipline, discipline, discipline on defense against the Rams. Don't take the eye candy, don’t fall for the motions and backfield actions. Be disciplined.
  21. It was a beauty, but the throw to Diggs earlier in the drive is maybe the best throw he’s ever made in his football life. The rollout under pressure, the absolutely effortless flick of the wrist, the perfect placement; it’s all there. You can definitely count on one hand the QBs that can make that throw.
  22. I noticed it. He was mostly brutal today, but he did have a really nice pulling block on a wham play that Moss took for 10 IIRC.
  23. The oldest trick in the book: if you have a backup defender on the field, blitz him. The one thing just about any defender can do is cause a disruption on a QB if he comes free.
  24. Well, if you’re like me then you’re used to people saying things about Allen that just aren’t true...it’s been that way since pre-draft. He never had accuracy issues; he has/had an issue with stability in his lower body that is exacerbated when he rushes his throws. But I actually like it that the narrative continues; an angry Josh is the last thing the rest of the NFL needs.
  25. Man she really hung in there. Tough lady that will be an example to young women everywhere. RIP
