  1. I am making a case that saying that WRs of that type no longer have a place in the NFL and that it's been decades since they did is wrong. The trend favoring separation over catch radius is just that, a trend. Whatever type of receiver a player may be, they still need to run good routes, be strong on the ball and make the catch. As for the 9 ypc average, catching 2 balls in the endzone sort of skews that number lower, wouldn't you agree? It was mentioned by many over the last eight months that there was a distinct lack of great catches by any Bills WR last year. Josh is supposed to be historically inaccurate so where are were all the fantastic, Sports Center worthy catches last year? I do not think there would be enough of a compilation to make an even 1 minute highlight video.
  2. It wasn't too long ago when Buddy Nix said the Bills needed a receiver who can be open even when he wasn't. Strange, but he never succeeded in that quest. That was not in the 80's/90's. It was two years ago when the Bills signed Anquan Boldin to be that fill that role. Kelvin Benjamin was on the team last year to be that and he failed because he was not strong at the catch point, imo.
  3. There has to be a place in the game for a WR who is bigger and stronger on the ball and more intense that his defenders. Has to be.
  4. Interesting yellow splotch in SE Wyoming, Cheyenne/Laramie area.
  5. Not super big, I agree. He is a shade under 6'2" but seems to be 220+ which is pretty solid. I am curious about what you base the athletic and arm talent evaluations on. The lack of a combine invite gives you some cover but there is plently of other evidence to suggest otherwise. The Sports Science piece, dual threat status in the SEC, the 4X pp&K championships. He was throwing 70+ yds. as a 15 year old.
  6. I'll bring up Jameis Winston for the counterpoint to all the white privilege talk. I think a credible allegation of rape trumps anything Chad has done (that we know of) and he still got taken #1 overall. There are a bunch of other lesser instances involving Jameis prior to and since that draft so there is a patttern of bad behaviour related to him. Imo, Chad is a better athlete than Jameis (or Jim) and he is 2 for 2 in ascending training camp rosters the last two years which is about all he could have proven in those circumstances. When he gets a chance to compete on the field, he shows well, in almost every football related situation. I do not agree about the mediocre talent and field reads. He knows where to go with the ball and his accuracy and arm are elite, not mediocre. He will attempt risky throws as those with elite arm talent are prone to do. If he ever gets a legit chance I think he'll prove that to be the case. He has rehabbed from 3 major injuries and he works hard at his craft by all accounts. The wrist tendon injury he got was liklely due to his overworking in preparation for his Pro Day. The off field stuff is unnecessarily messy and he seems to have been working at cleaning it up. We can't know now how successful he will be with that.
  7. He would have been a free agent after this year with the potential that they could head into an uncertain 2020 offseason. This is a Rob Johnson/Ryan Fitzpatrick sort of deal that does not keep them from moving on if they see fit. Reich has been talking him up all summer, calling him a top 20 QB. There is a legit scenario where this works out well for them but I would not say it's more than 50/50.
  8. The crappy career w/l record and lack of dynamic playmaking do not inspire confidence but I think there is a good chance that Brissett in year 4, under Frank Reich's coaching staff, looks way better than previous versions.
  9. My long held opinion about football at most levels is that the two most important position groups to be at least competent in are the o-line and d-backfield. The offense can't bank on anything working with a line that can't function and a defense fails when it can't get off the field enough with blown or poor coverage and missed tackles. Weakness at those position groups are problems that can't be hidden for an entire game. I keep hearing the Jets described that way.
  10. Make eye contact, press conference body language 101. It's like Gase is trying to shade his eyes so no one can actually see them doing goofy things again.
  11. Hand under the ball, it does not move, therefore it's a catch. Duke strong on the ball again. KB would have had it ripped out.
  12. For those whom might be interested, JHS grad and 2014 Connolly Cup winner Stephen Carlson made the Browns practice squad.
  13. Kelvin Benjamin with better hands, better conditioning and more "desire to compete."
  14. I think most teams place a priority on a WR that already knows their offense. I thought maybe some team that competed with the Bills to sign him out of the CFL might take their chance now but am glad he is still with the Bills. WRs and DBs seem like the most injured position group on this team. I think he will get an NFL game check at some point.
  15. There is a report that former UB QB Drew Anderson will be on the Cardinals PS. I had lost track of him after Murray State.
  16. Many are pointing out the demand for players waived by the Bills as a strength of the roster. I think it's also a sign of good coaching as is the 4-0 preseason record. The players at the bottom of the roster have been coached well and have performed better than the competition. Coach McD and staff have created a culture where the right kind of players are brought in, get coached up and improve as players. That happens top to bottom. Trust the process.
  17. This is kind of a trick question. The run/pass ratio is the result of something not the cause. Game situations, ahead or behind, one score or two, late in the game or early, down and distance. If Josh didn't have so many scramble runs last year what would the ratio have looked like? If 48 scramble runs were pass attempts or sacks how does change the appearance of last year's team? Leaning on the passing game more on first down, in the first half or with only a small lead would be a sign of progress.
  18. I'll add Drew Brees to this. There is a reason why the Chargers drafted Eli Manning and traded him for Philip Rivers after 3 years of Drew Brees.
  19. No conspiracy. The OP saw it discussed on PFT and thought this was new information. What! Kennedy was assassinated!? If you know your SNL history. Anyways, he is an interesting topic that generates many different opinions.
  20. Maybe forced to watch the Orioles and, if he has any recurrence of off field problems, he has to return to watch them in perpetuity.
  21. In the sense that he is unable to be around the team and loses his weekly game checks, a suspension and being waived have the same consequences. At least you are likely to return to the team after a suspension. I would make the point that the Broncos punishment was more severe and that the NFL suspension was unnecessary.
  22. Every time that idea comes up, my counter argument is that no one would be interested if he had grown up in East Brady or Red Lion or anywhere else than in WNY. As it is, WNY is a relatively small pond in the football world so he could not go unnoticed and his last name made him all the more newsworthy. The PPK championships, the Red Lion HS school team, the SJCI years, the UA allstar camp, signing at Clemson, the knee injury, the spring game dismissal, the championship year at Last Chance U, the signing at Ol' Miss, the nightclub fight/arrest, the great 2015 year for the Rebels, the knee injury in 2016, his brother's HS game brawl, the combine disinvite, the ruptured wrist tendon at his Pro Day, the Mr. Irrelevant draft position, winning QB#2 at Denver, the bizarre Halloween party incidents, his being waived and now the Colts. All of this made news in WNY. Chad is like a modern day, reality TV version of a Greek Trajedy. Enormously talented but with devastating flaws and lots of obstacles to overcome. Does it end as a trajedy or as a story of redemption? I am interested in how the story ends and I am hoping to see the latter. Here is a link to a story written by a Colts media member who questioned the Colts signing Chad back in May: Gregg Doyel of the Indy Star
  23. Actually that would have been a good argument. The Broncos waived him, effectively suspending for 8 games. The NFL imposed 2 game suspension seems redundant but I doubt Chad felt like that challenge to authority persona was the right way to go.
  24. On the field Chad is not a joke. If he had been allowed to the combine he would have tested in elite range, imo. Sub 4.7 sec 40 time, 60+ mph on his power throw. He sees the field really well and his quick release can beat pressure and coverage. He is a legit dual threat that plays with a high football IQ. That's how he managed to lead Ole Miss to wins over Alabama, LSU and Auburn in the same season for the first time ever and their first Sugar Bowl win since Richard Nixon was the POTUS. Now the frat boy, gangsta wannabe behaviour is a joke and maybe, just maybe he has figured that out. I would also bet that the Indianapolis Colts made some sort of counseling a condition of his being on the team. There was a reference at some point to surrounding Chad with the "right kind of structure" which sounds like a package deal that would include whatever type counseling he needed, substance abuse, anger management, knuckleheadedness, whatever.
  25. The greatest comeback in NCAA history, may still be true, and the greatest comeback in NFL history as a QB and brought his team from 1 and 5 to a 10 and 6 playoff season as the HC. I think he knows something about mental toughness and leadership.
