  1. It was. The punter did not even initiate the steps of a punt. He showed that fake way to early.
  2. I don't think that is true. It doesn't seem to account for an int any different than an incompletion. Also, no mention of lost fumbles during a pass play. Those are pretty big game events to ignore, usually much more than sack yardage. I agree, the last sentence will be true. The Bills are very likely to see their average yards per attempt go up. Hitting on some deeper pass plays would be a big help and getting Foster on the field is one reason to think it will happen.
  3. There are a bunch of players who had some of their best seasons with Fitz throwing them the ball. He can make an otherwise disfunctional offense look capable. I think it's because he never plays scared, is smart enough to find plays but he's prone to not knowing when to dial it down and give up on a play.
  4. Cousin to Robb and Louis Riddick. I thought he played well while he was here. It seemed like the entire secondary performed well throughout August, hence a contribution to the 4-0 preseason record. He's been with Indy and Philly since.
  5. I think the snap was high which screwed up the timing. Josh handled it with both hands but in almost volleyball fashion so the refs ruled he never possessed it to make it a legit pass.
  6. Sagarin and 538 have the Bills at 16 and beating Miami won't change much. I think that's fair given who they have beaten. Until they beat a top 10 team (Eagles) there really is not much reason to move them higher. As for the PFF commentary, harping on 4 missed field goals is dumb. One was blocked, one was from 50 and another from 53. The Bills last drive went 9 plays and 50 yards with the Titans needing the ball back and ended in the RZ w/o points because the Bills didn't need them. It is beyond stupid to add 9 to the Titans score and declare them the "if only" winner of the game.
  7. On those last 3 runs he had against the Bengals on their game winning TD drive he looked pretty determined to gain yards and fast enough to do so. Although, it could also be that the defense was gassed and slower.
  8. There may be some good reasons why this would be true but it seems Marcel Louis-Jacque has made more of a presence locally than Mike Rodak ever did. It seems MLJ has been a guest on practically every radio and podcast at least once and was seeking advice about which seats might be the best to target for the Sabres/Panthers last night. He seems much warmer to the fans and the team. Hyde and Poyer seem to fit the general pattern. Beane and McDermott do seem to favor players that have been rejected by others much as we as fans do.
  9. I think he is keeping his eyes down field longer while he is in the pocket or scrambling. Thus, he has been slower to make the decision to become a runner.
  10. False Start Definition It is a False Start if the ball has been placed ready for play, and, prior to the snap, an offensive player who has assumed a set position charges or moves in such a way as to simulate the start of a play, or if an offensive player who is in motion makes a sudden movement toward the line of scrimmage. Any quick abrupt movement by a single offensive player, or by several offensive players in unison, which simulates the start of the snap, is a false start. Exceptions: This does not apply to an offensive player under the center who turns his head or shoulders, unless the movement is an obvious attempt to draw an opponent offside. Imo, the movement in unison was abrupt. The TE simulated a pass block set, the wing simulated the beginning of a pass route, both are common movements to the start of the play. The TE could have lifted his arm to a 2 point stance, paused, taken 2 steps back and then the wing/slot could have taken two forward. The way it was done was in unison and abruptly was intended to bait Murphy to react. The crew let them get away with it and if this were a universal interpretation, we would see it more often. Someone else tries it, we are likely to see it called "simulating start of play" and a false start much like the QB head bob and the Kyler Murray hand claps. False Start Hand Claps
  11. Maybe JK advised Josh about what not to do? Or maybe that's the difference between growing up in Firebaugh/Wyoming vs. East Brady/Miami.
  12. Josh is getting better and better at being Josh Allen, franchise QB. It's like a real good politician, winning voters one handshake or hug at a time. It is smart to do this for a game involving smaller BPS and suburban schools, imo.
  13. Some natural consequences of those failed drives are (1) keeping the defense fresh (2) giving the punter a good chance to pin them deep (hurts the net average) (3) gives the defense more room for error. Points will eventually follow as they refine their play and it will likely come this year not next. Be competant now but work toward being something special come January. Your top 10 prediction is interesting because by the end of the year we could be saying things like "over their last 8 games the Bills have been in the top X of scoring."
  14. Watch the Ken Burns documentary on the Vietnam War. We forget how messed up we became because of that war. It really tore us apart and made us question everything.
  15. I do not see momentum anywhere in the rule. As a matter of fact the reason to blitz like that is to defeat the blocker, make sure he can't become a receiver and continue on to the QB. That's how it will happen if Lewis tries to block him higher. Instead he cuts him and turns him into a flying, tumbling missile. Unavoidable contact due to a block, say I.
  16. I know, quite ironic that Lee used that analogy regarding Duke twice now. He said something similar in postgame. I think he also broke someone's jaw in that fight and while he won it he lost his NCAA football career at the same time. It sent him on a 4 year jaunt through professional football purgatory to earn his way back to a real NFL game. It's good to have a team full of guys that can win their battle, hungry and humble as McD says.
  17. As a result of a cut block (not chip or chop) the defender was no longer able to avoid contact with the QB because this feet were flipped over his head. This is a dangerous type of block at a blitzing LB just for that reason and I doubt they teach it that way. That is the definition of unavoidable due to a block attempt.
  18. Movement that simulates the start of a play like QB head bob is illegal seems to me. Having them both move abruptly was intended to do just that.
  19. The rule has an exemption for contact that resulted from a block and made it unavoidable. Most of these type blocks happen outside the focus of the referee who's main focus is on the QB. I doubt team's teach cut blocks like that in pass protection because it puts the QB at risk.
  20. NFL rookie minimum is like $540k. I think the Colts are paying CK a little above that to be on their PS and the Jags are paying Minischew the minimum to play.
  21. Might be good evidence for the importance of team culture to the development of young players. Those who think talent is the only thing that matters and sneer at the culture talk can't rationalize the Browns.
  22. 4.3 may seem wrong to our eyes, that contract they reported is definitely wrong as it is below the NFL minimum. Maybe that's what they guaranteed to him for the practice squad?
  23. Or it was him or a member of his security staff. Stupid crap like that gets blamed on younger people as a matter of assumption but many times those "boys" turn out to be 42 years old, for instance.
  24. Einstein says that was insane.
