  1. Attention to detail. That's how he gotten this far. He treats everything as being important because some small detail might be the difference between winning and losing and there is no way of knowing which it might be. Rex had a laissez faire attitude toward his operation and it often got his team beat and got him fired. McDermott is the antiRex, Ultra competitve people are often jerks or control freaks because they don't always know when they need to hit the mute button in dealing with the people outside their bubble. It does sound like McD owed Fairburn an apology for how he treated him in that situation but it's not likely he is wired to even see it that way. It would be helpful if someone close to him could help him self correct before it hurts the cause. Maybe his wife or Beane.
  2. Team's go for 4th down in such different circumstances that this stat is meaningless without further context. Fourth and goal at the 1 vs. 4th and 15 in the final minute of a game down 2 scores.
  3. The throw was made with Garrett within a step. He was so close, withing inches actually, that Rudolph could only make a push of a throw. There is no way that a defender in that position can know if the ball was out unless he can see out his ear hole. He did wrap and then take him down late with a gator roll but, again, the defender could not know if the ball was actually delivered. That's the way to take a QB down without landing on him with his full weight which is a penalty. Garrett hits the ground first and Rudolph lands on top of him and then is rolled to the side. They are then face to face. Rudolph has played an awful game, just gotten rag dolled to the ground and takes exception to it. Mayhem results. I'll bet the Bills defenders have problems with Rudolph too. He seems like that kind of player.
  4. On Thanksgiving, with a climate controlled environment and a national TV audience, and with Jim Nantz and Tony Romo on the call, the Bills are really pumped to play that game whereas the Cowboys view it as a PITA. Over under on Romo wows! for Josh Allen/Bills offensive plays? Maybe 7. I can see it now. At least one vertical route hit, but there might be more.
  5. Then scored a td on a sharp looking drive which he called glamorous.
  6. Losman was said to be a "one trick pony" by some becasue of his deep ball success. Trent Edwards earned the nickname Captain Checkdown for good reason. Owning the 10 to 20 range means the offense has a chance to succeed in the toughest of circumstances and is as the bolded states . Many of these routes are digs, comebacks and outs so YAC does not always come with them but they are throws made into the teeth of the defense, "Big Boy throws" as some say, and Josh's progress there is maybe the most encouraging growth in his game. The only thing missing has been the deep post and vertical routes but Jordan Palmer says they are coming.
  7. The real dichotomy is in how I view it. Watching at home on TV I am very stressed and easily provoked to anger to the point where I upset family members who are within earshot. Watching at New Era I am much calmer. It's like the emotions of the crowd help bear the burden. When things go badly, I just leave the stadium early because I do not need to see my team fail once I figure out that's the inevitable outcome.
  8. Earn while they learn, what a deal. No team is the same in January as they were in September and this team has a chance to really make something of themselves in 2019. Back in August the depth of the roster and the quality of the coaching showed in a 4-0 preseason and the Bills took advantage of their strange schedule to get to this point and are gearing up to face a tough finishing stretch. As Van used to say, "Buckle your seatbelts!" Bills fans.
  9. Time and space and how to get the most from them. That's what experience can teach him. So much space and it seemed to both Josh and Dawson that there was more than enough time to make a simple pitch and catch. The defender broke from the middle of the D when Josh started to roll. Lots of bodies in between probably meant Josh never saw him closing on the play. The defender just got there in time. A throw more toward the corner or Knox making two steps toward the ball would make all the difference.
  10. Someone suggested the game could end in a tie and it kinda did. Steelers and Browns both suffered losses.
  11. I was following the Browns and Colts camps because of Carlson and Kelly and when they held their joint practices in August, there were many fights. Kitchens was talking about having an attitude and not backing down from anyone. I thought it was a bad sign.
  12. During the off-season we discussed often how the Bills 2018 highlight reel of great catches would last less than a minute. You would think that a historically inaccurate QB would be forcing his receivers to make great catches all the routine time!
  13. I think both Josh and Dawson thought they had all the time and space they needed to make an easy pitch and catch. The defender came flying into the play and just got there in time to get the pbu.
  14. For those not familiar with HS football in the 716, he was the Connolly Cup winner in 2014.
  15. Schobert has flashed these last 2 games me thinks.
  16. If Singletary has much of an NFL career I think he'll have a game similar to Kareem Hunt.
  17. Great. UB and Sabres both lose in OT and somehow the Steelers will pull this out and I can be 0 for 3.
  18. The play last year where he dragged Melvin Ingram for 15 or 20 ft or so stands out. Don't think I'd ever seen a QB do that before but that's a very poor position to be in to make a throw down the field but still physically impressive.
  19. For sure. I think he is in the process of learning what he should not attempt to do.
  20. The number of times where Josh did that but ended the play with a pick is approaching double digits. He hates to give up on a play.
  21. He was so under utilized at Ole Miss that there is no way he could be even close to a finished ball catcher as a rookie. He has done well so far, imo, and will do more. If the offense makes a late season surge, he'll be part of the reason. He showed well against the Browns. Two balls he did not come up with were part on Josh and part on his not having his big body in quite the right position. He is learning fast and will be a tough matchup going forward.
  22. I have yet to rewatch it because there is only so much wallowing in the losing effort muck I can take but there were two Singletary plays on the last drive that seemed like he had a chance to do much more. The tipped ball on the screen pass that he luckily did not catch was botched because of him, imo. When he released into the pattern he did a flyby on the outside rusher instead of making a good attempt at a chip and then a roll into his route. That was the defender that barely got there in time to tip that pass. My impression was that there was lots of open space with blockers on the way. On the 6 yard play where he did not get out-of-bounds I was expecting to see to see him make a stop in a phone booth, shake the defender who had the angle on him, head upfield and then get out-of-bounds. Both those plays had some big potential. When the Cover1 stuff comes out maybe there will be a better look to confirm it.
  23. Both kicks looked like mishits to me compared to the Xpts he made going the same direction. Sort of like my tee shots, it's tough to know anything else about the attempt when the ball is struck poorly.
  24. I remembered that happening but I did not think it was that early in the 2018 season. I thought maybe it was the Lions game.
