The screen, short pass and sweep plays to Najee Harris will be a big factor in this game.  Shut that down early, and the game becomes more one dimensional.  If Pitt has success early, watch out..  I expect a good chunk of fans will be from Pittsburgh, like always..  Should make for some interesting crowd noise.  Send them 'dirty-towel' waiving fanatics back down the 90 or 219 unhappy.

With our Canadian Bills Mafiosi unable to cross the border, I think that released a bunch of season tickets to the market place and there are likely to be even more Steelers fans present than there would have been otherwise.

  2. Many have mentioned Hamburg and I have to agree.  Not too developed and has a smaller town appeal.  Stay away if you do not like traffic circles, though.  It's closer to Chautauqua County so it has that going for it.  Eden gets you more rural and even closer.  I could be wrong about the daily commuting, but the traffic approaches to the city seem much more reasonable from the southtowns.  That is certainly true of the post game traffic anyways.  Dunkirk, home of the Chautauqua County fair, to Hamburg, home of the Erie County Fair.  Some kind of symmetry there.

  3. Reputations can  be strange things.  As Marv said "If you get a reputation as an early riser you can sleep 'til noon."  Similar to first impressions are lasting ones.  Meaning once people believe something, they are reluctant to give it up.  In a year marred by a concussion, COVID and a calf injury, he managed to finish the 2nd half of the year well.  TEs are a slow to develop position and I think 2021 will be a big year for him.

  4. Searching Hollister's name on Twitter, there seem to be some TE needy teams out there, some due to some recent injuries or trades.  Fans connecting him to the Giants, Jets, Vikings, Seahawks, Jags.  I think he may get a better offer than the wait in the parking lot offer he may have gotten from the Bills.

  5. If the defense plays better there will be less need to score late in games.  Miami(1), LA Rams, LVR, Arizona, Seattle, etc. were games where the offense created big leads early and the defense gave up some 2nd half scores to close the gap.  If the defense gets after the other offense more when leading by more than one possession the Bills offense can play more often in kill the clock mode.

  6. The results of NFL preseason games have little meaning but.............the AFC is currently 32-8-1 vs, the NFC with Jax leading the Cowboys.  Last year's regular season record was 35-28-1 in favor of the AFC.  I did these numbers without benefit of writing anything on  paper so I might be a little off but I think this might be a meaningful trend,  That interconference record is going to tilt even more to the AFC this year.

I agree.  Rookies, Vets or not they should get in a quick warm up.

Well, he did have two lost fumbles against the Jets in week 1.

I was thinking of that too.  With QBs off limits to defensive player hits during training camp, ball security during the car wreck forces of NFL hits is impossible to simulate.  On the other hand, Josh had two fumbles vs. the Jets in the 2019 opener as well.  Not likely that a series or two in the last preseason game will remind him of what he needs to do to protect the ball while being hit.

This is boring!  When I call you a moron, then you call me an a-hole and we eventually agree to fight at the home opener ... THEN it's an interesting discussion!

LOL.  Ok.  Maybe when the gout clears out of my feet.  I posted this back thread but here is Bashem launching into Josh's helmet after the ball was out.  Camera work is fuzzy, but this was a launch.  Feet off the ground, legs parallel like Eddie the Eagle ski jumping.  Near as I could tell there was not a fine.

  9. Thanks for the quote.   .................leaves both feet prior to contact.............The side of Smith's helmet did hit Smith's facemask after the initial impact.  Yes, penalty.  Launch no.  Dirty no.  But, different opinions make for a more interesting discussion.

Agreed.  That hit will draw a flag 11/10 times in this league but it was not targeting.  You cannot go high on the QB.  Smith needs to lower the target to somewhere around the waist.  But not too low.  You cannot go low on the QB either.

It happens often enough where the hit will be waist high and the impact and/or QBs' own movement will drive him backwards and the defender slides down toward the QB's knee area by the time they land.  Penalty.  Get used to them.  We will see a bunch of them.

If you play/pause one more time, you'll see both feet off of the turf.  This is a textbook picture of launching and leading with one's helmet - as well as hitting the opponent head-to-head.

    The call was correct.

The league has been very actively trying to remove this exact type of hit from the game for years.

It was a good call on a dirty hit.

A launch would have both feet off the ground before impact and the legs parallel.  This is running through the tackle.  You do realize that it is normal for any runner to have both feet off the ground during their stride?

    That hit was dirty.

    He launched.

    He led with his helmet.

He hit him in the face with his helmet.

It was an absolutely filthy play and totally unnecessary - ESPECIALLY in a meaningless game.

Funny how people can see the same play but see it differently.  Smith's right foot was in the turf and his face mask struck Fields"shoulder.  Thus, not lanched and not hitting him in the face with his helmet.  Notice Fields still looking at the defense at the moment of impact.  But, get used to these calls.  There will be way more of them with an improved pass rush.  Just a violent, legal hit often looks like a penalty.

Wait until Allen gets hit like that and we will see this board go nuts

He was hit like that (worse imo) in game 1 by NYJ DE Bashem.  The camera did not catch it too well and Josh completed the pass to  Knox so it was not such a big deal, game effect wise.  Josh had the ball out well before the hit.
