Of course, every football player with declining skills or nagging injuries thinks he still has his speed and agility. I think Aaron is beat up from years of play. I've been a fan of his, but he is now damaged goods. The Bills blew it when they panicked and gave Kelsey that big contract. That forced them to give Schobel a big contract. Hindsight is always 20-20, but they would have been better off bringing in a new generation of DEs.

Color me astounded...

Your compassion for old sidearm is so refreshing. And your shots at everyone else show that you are a fun person to get drunk with. Happy therapy. -
I would plan on T.O. costing us $9 M + a year next season
BillsfaninFl replied to SKOOBY's topic in The Stadium Wall Archives
Reality check: 1. The Bills signed T.O. ONLY because it looked like a lot of ticket sales may be lost. It was a marketing ploy. 2. T.O. came to Buffalo because there wasn't as much interest in him as he hoped. So he will wait to see what the market is next year. 3. By the end of this year, the T.O. mantra will be "our play calling is too conservative," "our quarterback is not good enough," Buffalo is not a contender," "there is little media coverage here" or all of the above. -
Falcons releasing michael Vick today !!

Stop it! I can't take any more of this pun ishment. -
Backlash? People forgive and forget if it''s a celebrity or sports star. I can't believe how many people were in OJ's corner even though everyone knew he committed murder. As another example, I am so stupid that even though I get pissed at the Bills every year, when the next season starts I convince myself that this time it will be different and they will do well.

Describe Bills starters in one word
BillsfaninFl replied to Justice's topic in The Stadium Wall Archives
I think that if our starters were the second string on a team, they would be great backups. -
Six consecutive years where you just plain suck on offense
BillsfaninFl replied to LGB's topic in The Stadium Wall Archives
Good points all. If you are a head coach who is not a good tactition, then you play not to lose. If you win enough games (even in losing seasons), you can be a head coach for a few more years. Of course, there are always cheap S.O.B.s that will hire poor coaches to "administer" the team for a while. Hmmm... that sounds familiar. -
Hello, Dick, why did we draft Maybin #1?
BillsfaninFl replied to bananathumb's topic in The Stadium Wall Archives
I love the humorous posts that sometimes are tossed into this thread. And it's even funnier when someone takes the statement seriously and responds accordingly. But what if I'm wrong, and it is not sarcasm or irony? What if all the remarks are serious and I just think it is kidding? Wait a minute... it's okay for Bills fans to be delusional. Whew! That was close. -
Oct 2002 - The story of Dick Jauron "Coward"-gate
BillsfaninFl replied to 1billsfan's topic in The Stadium Wall Archives
Do you really think Jauron was Marv's first choice? It was probably like this: "Marv get us a new coach who isn't a rookie. The fans have figured out that I hire rookie head coaches to save money. But don't hire someone with a proven record or we'll have to pay him the going rate." -

Every time the Bills played the Patriots during the last 5 years, they and the media have pointed out that the way to beat the Pats is to put pressure on their quarterback. The only flaw with that strategy is that the Bills cannot get it done. Not every team can produce a pass rush like the Giants and the Bills are the poster boys for "weak pass rush.".

Rams to be sold; could move
BillsfaninFl replied to buffalonian's topic in The Stadium Wall Archives
That will not happen. The NFL considers Toronto part of the Bills' territory. So... 1. either the Bills have to move to Toronto 2. or the Bills go somewhere else, then Toronto brings in another team. I think the league has learned its lesson about L.A., not making a firm commitment to providing a team there, then watching helplessly as the Raiders grabbed the opportunity, then sitting on its hands when the Raiders retreated to Oakland. They know its not a football town, but they can't afford to stay away from all that potential money if there is a stadium with a lot of corporate suites. -
The Colts may promote Pete Metzelaars to OL coach. How
BillsfaninFl replied to Tipster19's topic in The Stadium Wall Archives
Keep in mind that coaching is not just teaching. Established players, even stars, need a coach to determine if they falling into bad habits in certain situations, or if there is a flaw developing in their mechanics. -

Why looking at the schedule is stupid.
BillsfaninFl replied to billsfan89's topic in The Stadium Wall Archives
Well said! Perhaps the schedule looks daunting every year because we know that we are not good enough to consistently beat good teams. In the early 1990s, many of us liked when top teams were on our schedule because we were confident that we could beat those units. And we often did. -
The Machine that is Brett Favre...
BillsfaninFl replied to Major Mud's topic in The Stadium Wall Archives
How can anyone hate Brett Favre? He is "everyman" to the NFL. He made the most of what he has (including a flawed throwing style), showed how tough he was setting a record for playing time (among others), admitted addiction to pain killers (without being exposed by someone else) and overcame it, and through all the great seasons and winning the Super Bowl is one of the most humble of stars. What the hell more do you want? Respect him for being the guy that he is, in spite of his accomplishments: a country guy who loves his family and doing the simple things in life (like fishing). Why does he have to hang up his spurs if he still wants to play and is better than a lot of starting QBs? I don't care if he wins or loses, I'm not his greatest fan, but I respect him and wish more of the primadonnas in the league were like him. Give him a break! -
My son signed me up last fall.

Board is absurd after a loss...

Good post: right on and with some humor. We keep hearing that our D-linemen are too small and can't get enoughj of a push. Our O-linemen are too big to keep up with fast D-linemen. The solution is obvious: switch the lines. Walker and Dockery would be in the DT rotation, and Peters - the ex-TE, ex-Pro Bowler with those "quick feet" - can play DE. If Stroud was hiking the ball, Jenkins might have been sitting on the turf for some of those plays. Please don't take the preceding seriously. On the other hand, I like what we saw from Derek Fine. He can run a rout and catch a ball. The touchdown was a "gimme," but at least he didn't drop it. Five catches later, I'd say that was a pretty good debut for the rookie.

Vikings big men in trouble
BillsfaninFl replied to marauderswr80's topic in The Stadium Wall Archives
Really? 98% or higher? Give me a break. I have known a number of 300 pound guys who were never pro athletes. And I submit that a lot of the skill players are not very large or heavy. Lastly, I cannot believe that there are so few clean guys playing the game. Call me an optimist, but I would bet anything there are more honest people on this planet than you think. Even with millions of dollars on the line. -
You are absolutely right. That's the thing. Our walking wounded are forcing the coaches to use bandaid formations and tactics. It's not that we are getting more conservative, it's that we are trying to stop the bleeding. Look at the injuries we have as of today. Half our starters are out, or unable to play at 100%. Whitner is playing three positions because we would be giving up 40 points (mostly through the air) if he was in the box on every play. I just hope the Bills win enough during this stretch and get healthy for the playoff run in December.

Okay, I'm not going to blast you. Enough have already done that. But I suggest you chilll out about it. Things aren't that bad when we lose, and they are not that awesome when we win. Think about how many good teams have had bad losses. New England, San Diego, the Giants, Pittsburgh, Indianapolis, Dallas, etc., etc., etc. Team intensity, turnovers, lucky breaks, bad officiating, home crowds, etc. all are factors in every game. And as we see every year, even the dormat teams win some of them. I don't know how far this version of the Bills will go this year, but I have suffered through enough rotten years to appreciate a good one. If they don't make the playoffs it will be because of these damned injuries, not talent or attitude. These guys are playing hard and I am getting my money's worth.
