  1. Lot's of good advice. But when I came to games with my father (and later my son) after I moved away from the area, the highlight (sometimes even more than the game) was the tailgating experience. Some of these crazies (my alumni) get there the night before or by early morning. They throw enough stuff into their cars, trucks, RVs, etc. that it looks like they are going to camp in the parking lot for days. If you like the Bills, you will have an awesome experience bonding with the thousands of other fans who in my opinion are the best pregame partiers I have ever seen. Everyone is friendly and is into the same stuff: * drink whatever it is you like until you have to look around a few times to find the stadium (which is across the street). * eat about 5,000 calories of wings, brats ribs, or that special grill item you like. * throw around footballs/frisbies/whatever until you are certain that tomorrow your arm will hurt like hell. * strike up conversations with anyone and everyone. Just don't make a move on some guy's "babe." * don't bother packing everything up when it's time to go into the stadium. The game is the middle of the event. The post game tailgating party is a "must do." * don't worry about forgetting to relieve yourself before you leave the stadium or even the parking lot. Traffic will be backed up for miles on the New York State Thruway and herds of people will be hopping out of their cars to use the roadside bushes. I hope you have a great time.
  2. I watched that game, too, and several others of Tebow's during the last four years. You can't help but do it if you live in Florida. When you say he doesn't look that special, I understand what you mean. You see him running several varieties of the option play and so it doesn't look like pro ball. But shovel passes aside, when he throws medium and long, he is very accurate. He has a live arm and is also good at buying time by avoiding pass rushers. He has run for 51 touchdowns in 4 years, breaking Herschell Walker's record. He's bigger than Michael Vick and not as big as Vince Young, but he is similar in that he is hard to catch, can run the ball and sees most of the field most of the time. He may not be as shifty a runner as those two, but he is a far better passer. Confession time: I'm not a Florida Gators fan or a Tim Tebow fan. But I have to respect his courage and skills. He may be the best remedy for what the Bills need in a quarterback after all. Kelly may be right.
  3. How far do you have to travel?
  4. Don't know what teams you are looking at, but there are a lot of examples where a team brought in a couple of good players and prospered. Versus the extreme of guys like Dan Snyder bringing ina squadron of "name" players. In fact, if you look at the teams that have made quick turnarounds during the last decade, in most cases they brought in a couple of key free agents and/or made a key trade that made them much more competitive.
  5. I'll ignore your prediction. Keep in mind one thing. Rogers is "doing diligence." His group is learning things about the NFL business and product. If the group buys the franchise, they will probably build a domed stadium better than what just opened in Dallas and do a ton of things to make Toronto a football magnet. These people aren't stupid. What they are spending is peanuts compared to what they would spend if successful in getting the team. And what they would be spending is nothing compared to what profits they would be making. They have geographic and financial advantages to be exploited that could potentially make them the most profitable franchise in the league.
  6. You bring back memories of a local bus company mogul offering to build a domed stadium. Ralph didn't want it because he wanted the community to pay for it so he could have exclusive use of it. So how many concerts and other extravaganzas of entertainment have we seen over the years? In the meantime, let the fans freeze their butts for half the home games each year.
  7. This is not a revelation. There have been rumors for decades that the Jacobs family was interested in buying the Bills. If anything, that makes it more plausible.
  8. Mr. Wilson, at least have the guts to use your own name when posting a topic here.
  9. Well, honestly, can you compare the Bills to that juggernaut Chiefs team? The chiefs are way more explosive and entertaining and have a realistic shot at winning it all. (I'm sorry, the devil made me say that.)
  10. You're right. I doubt if Ralph Wilson remembers what he had for breakfast this morning.
  11. Long before the next draft, we will know whether there has been a change of strategy at One Bills Drive. If multpile really good players are brought in when free agency opens up, there is hope. If, instead, all we can cheer about is the team has a high priced coach or single name player, it is proof that you-know-who has lied again. I'm not going to get sucked in again and believe this crap without real evidence of change. Well, I'm not going be deluded into thinking that one acquisition means real improvement. Of course, if it were someone who I really respect, I might be cautiously hopeful. Then again, if Ralph looks really sincere in an interview maybe I should buy into it. Arrghh! I'm doomed to be shafted again.
  12. Archie Manning has a third child who is also a quarterback and is graduating this year. I think Ralph should take Anne Marie Manning as his number one pick. Oops, forget it. She plays soccer.
  13. This thread and its old news is nothing more than the ranting of a guy who wants into the owner's game very badly. He's being controversial and opinionated. It keeps him in the news. The greatest quarterback of the next decade may come from California or Samoa or anywhere, and to consider a guy's home as part of his qualifications is ridiculous. Regarding Kelly's love of the Bills and obsession with keeping the Bills in Buffalo, it's great. But he didn't always feel that way. When the Bills originally drafted him, he refused to come to Buffalo. Instead, he played in the USFL and only left when it became obvious that league was going to fold. Forced to play for the Bills, he excelled and the rest is history. So the guy isn't always right in his opinions.
  14. Amen. How can a couple of you actually say "stop blaming the offensive line?" No, it's not their fault that they aren't very good. Some are too young and inexperienced to expect much from them. Injuries have made a bad situation much worse. No line can play well when they do not line up with the same guys beside them often enough. But the situation was created by the comedy of errors brought about by the coaches and management. We may never know... 1. We may never know if the real reason for Jason Peters' sudden bad attitude was that he wanted to escape from a sinking ship. 2. We may never know if the apparent fall off in talent in recent years is just Ralph sweetening his pot even more than before (by spending so little on players). 3. We may never know how good or bad Losman and Edwards would have been with good coaching and supporting players. Next year, add Brohm to this sentence and the following year add whomever is our next QB.
  15. I erased my forst three responses to your comments because they were all too offensive. Let me just gently say that it's a bit unlikely that Bill Polian's contract would allow him to do anything to assist another team.
  16. Of course he is interested. After having two consecutive OC jobs, he realizes that no team is probably planning to chase him to be their head coach. However, the most desperate guys are the ones willing to be HC of the Raiders. Talk about fans waiting for the chief to croak, if Davis went into the black hole of their stadium, he would probably never be seen again.
  17. While I agree with you about Kelly's statements, keep in mind that he does not speak for the Bills. Right now, he can say anything he wants and it is taken as one of our best players who is loyal to the community, wanting somethiing to happen fast. I don't know how astute he is about evaluating player talent. He has no track record in that area. But my fondest wish is that Jim could actually be involved in a move to keep the Bills in Buffalo. Unfortunately, talk is cheap and he has been implying he could do it for some years now.
  18. Wilson (who is not stupid) senses that the fans have had enough. Last year, he plunked down the cash to bring inT.O. and suck in the population again. Now, he knows even the elite single player acquisition will not be enough to placate the peasants. So he indicates he may be willing to pay big bucks to bring in a top notch coach. Suddenly, he is "a 91 year old owner hell-bent on a Super Bowl win?" If you had been paying attention, you would have read the reports from all directions that Shanahan's resume was built on spending big bucks on assitants and players. For Shanahan to be a fit in Buffalo, Wilson would have to spend all the money he has made during the last decade by being a cheap date, to have a Shanahan-type team. Mike is simply using the Bills to spark interest (and a bidding war) for him.
  19. Please, no! Every time we trade back into round one we blow it.
  20. Ah, the voice of reason. Guys, all fans "wish" for a Super Bowl win for their team. IMO a Ralph Wilson owned team will never again approach that lofty goal. But forget the odds of it happening, being a happy fan is about rooting for a team that is capable of doing it. I desire a reasonable expectation (at the beginning of each season) that my team could win enough games each year to have a chance to win it all. Regarding the "pain" of losing the Super Bowl, I was there. But it wasn't as much pain as it is today, because each of those (early '90s) seasons, I knew the team had a chance to win it the following year. Ask a Patriots fan if going 17 - 0 only to lose the SB was too much to take and most of them will tell you that at least there is a chance they may win it all the next season... or the next.
  21. Hey! How about this? We shock the football world by rehiring Tom Donahoe and then Bill Cowher the same day. As the two are reunited, we let them fight it out for the power. Donahoe trying to get him arrested for protesting and Bill trying to drown Tom by spitting on him. Naw, forget it!
  22. The emphasis is on "dominate." We had a massive O-Line that couldn't dominate a buffet.
  23. And... add to the story that he earned his player stripes playing for the Bills (in another life). I certainly would not be unhappy if Marty was the guy, but I have a feeling that he and Haslett will only come here if it is an alumni party.
