  1. Hey billsflippinrule, what happened when you went to your first Bills game? Tell us the story.
  2. Thanks for the link. It's a good article that makes solid points. If the Bills are sold to Rogers (I am not advocating this), I'm sure a new stadium will be part of the plan. If so, Rogers would be smart to build a domed stadium south of the city so that it is easily accessable from both Buffalo and Toronto. A regional name, a big tract of surrounding land to party on, preference for current ticket holders, etc. and it may be acceptable to all. Not my first choice, but maybe the only practical way of keeping the team local.
  3. There you go, believing that Ralph is going to clean house. Your expectations are way too high. For your own health, and so you later don't decide to bring a gun to work and blow away a bunch of people, just expect that the Bills will hire one person (a coach or a GM) that really knows how to evaluate talent. It won't happen overnight, but eventually the weak links will be cast aside.
  4. Didn't happen, because he is a different coach, with a different personality and something called "scrouples." Whereas Belicheat piles it on whenever he can, others don't find it necessary to feed their ego.
  5. Always has been. Just not a good head coach.
  6. What, you thinking it's easy to learn two different alignments? How far behind the others on the team would he be? (Not the newcomers signed during the last month, the veterans who have been with us for more than half the season.) Ouch! That's too much tongue-in-cheek even for me. Let Brohm get out there and show us something. No, it's not the whole audition, but we would at least have a first impression.
  7. Just imagine what kind of numbers Williams could have had if he placed his top priority on playing football. Never been a fan of his, but there is no argument that he is special.
  8. Well said. And another factor is the competition. The most important six games of each season are against the AFC East, where the dominant offensive tendancies are to run up the middle and throw short outside. (I realize there are notable exceptions, but I'm stating the trend.) A 3-4 defensive front seven may be advisable because it dictates having a huge run stopper in the middle and spread out linebackers that can better cover the sideline stuff. Of course, we do not have the players for the change. But we didn't 2, 3, 4 years ago either. My point the team is not adjusting to the competition and needs to start doing it NOW. The smaller, faster defensive players in a Tampa 2 style does not work in the AFC East. That's why we keeping getting thank you notes from Wes Welker.
  9. You do realize that he stated Vikings - Colts.
  10. Since the year we picked 4th overall, we are always in the top dozen or so. How can you get excited about this... since it hasn't helped the Bills to become a competitive team? If an organization is really good at evaluating which college players will do well in the pros, they get stronger as a result of the draft, even if they never pick near the top. Occasionally, a couple of top-rated players in the draft are very high probability NFL successes. (i.e. Peyton Manning) But Brett Favre, Tom Brady, Ray Lewis, L.T. a ton of other stars are found later in round 1 or even several rounds later. It's not when you get to pick, it's who you decide to pick when it's your turn.
  11. If you are hoping that their decline will take them below the Bills, it will never happen. If you are hoping that the Bills will rise to their level or beyond, that may happen after the ownership change.
  12. I know everything you said sounds ridiculous, but keep in mind that their record is 4-7 and ours is 7-4. They'll never catch us. Oh wait, maybe it's the other way around?
  13. So true. Think about it, guys. It is not unusual for an interim coach to add a spark to their team and steal a game or two. In addition, some players who were coasting suddenly realize there's going to be a purge after the season and they had better play much better if they want to keep their job. The records show that interim coaches do surprisingly well for a few games.
  14. Dog, no offense, grabbing at straws is perfectly allright. But I'm picturing you standing on the deck of the Titanic while she is slowly going down. Then the stern is raised in the air before the final plunge. And you shout "We're saved! The stern is going to stay afloat." Of course, that is probably better than the guy next to you, who might be saying "I knew this ship was going to sink, even before I got on."
  15. What cracked me up when I watched the interview on TV, was how Ward was given multiple chances to step back a bit and agree that concussions are different than other kinds of injuries. But the jerk wouldn't go for it. He's always been a guy who reporters could count on to put his foot in his mouth. I liked Rich Eisen's response, about being foolish to deceive trainers and coaches and most of all owing it to your family to want to have a life with them once your career is over. So many of these guys are semi-crippled later in life, but why take a chance on becoming a vegetable? Having said that, and knowing that the league is studying the effects of concussions now more than ever, why is the research for a new and better helmet going so slow? * Soft "flak jackets" protect quarterbacks better than ever before. * The military keeps making improvements to bulletproof apparel. * Hard helmets are now used as weapons to enhance hits (greatly increasing injuries). It seems like a new soft helmet is a solution. Instead, the league just keeps making new rules to protect players, which are not working. It's not like we want to see the players looking like the Michelin Man, but players who are good (and in some cases great) are the essence of the game. Lately, playoff teams are determined as much by their walking wounded count as by the skill of their players.
  16. Wow! I almost forgot how good that used to feel when Boomer would say that. Thanks for the reminder.
  17. Actually this was the Bills' version of what we occasionally see from teams as bad as the Raiders, Chiefs and Lions. It wasn't a complete reversal of fortunes. Having said that, I agree that it is great to see a win like this, especially against the Dolphins. I never have been able to consider the Patriots or any other team a worse "enemy" than Miami. It was really painful the way the first game against them went. Now it's interesting to think that with Sanchez hurt, the Jets may be vulnerable to being swept by the Bills. Forget the draft position, a few division wins goes a long way toward soothing the pain of recent years.
  18. Whew! I've been waiting for five years to hear from you. Please don't make it so long next time. Four and a half will do just fine.
  19. No, they hinted they may be willing to buy the Bills, if the league will allow them to move the team to Tehran.
  20. Excellent point. Remember how good Marshawn looked before the O-line was dismantled? Right now, Fred is the man because it is a "make your own hole" offense. With some line improvement, both could again be the hard to stop guys we watched before this season. Think ahead.
  21. That's called "we have nothing to lose" syndrome. Which, by the way, is a far better strategy than "let's play not to lose and see if it works." If I am Fewell, I would have the team play aggressive, risky football every game. He starts out with a 1% chance of being the HC next year. Why not let it all hang out and maybe some miracles will happen? If they look good the last few weeks, that's Fewelll's audition not just for the Bills' job, but any others out there that may be available in the near future.
  22. I'll grant you, they played better than most games this season. And I'm thrilled they did. (Several comments have been blocked by my computer for being rational.) Let's see if that was the rare game that every losing team occasionally has, or if the Bills play like that on Thursday. If the injury to the Jets' Sanchez is serious, we may actually have the advantage.
  23. Kelly was right. Harbaugh was a wimp.
  24. That's called sucking up. He's been doing it for years, trying to get a piece of the ownership action. He may well succeed, as long as he keeps with the propaganda in favor of Wilson.
