Obituary of the Buffalo Bills
BillsfaninFl replied to YellowLinesandArmadillos's topic in The Stadium Wall Archives
Man, I live in the shadow of Walt Disney World and cannot muster an upbeat delusion. I think if a white knoght was out there, they would have to wait to show themselves until Wilson passes on, then bid among others for an overvalued organization. There are several reasons why I do not see a happy ending for Buffalo fans. I would love to paint a scenario where I could see it happening, but I have to agree with the poster. Let's hope that Frazier or someone else who is competent becomes the head coach, and that they make the team competitive in spite of the management procedures and policies, and let's enjoy the Bills for whatever time they have left before they become a memory. -
Are Favre and Manning both top 5 QBs all time?
BillsfaninFl replied to machinegun12's topic in The Stadium Wall Archives
Actually, the title of this post should be Who I Think are the Top Quarterbacks of Recent Years. The answer to the title you posted is does a bear sh*t in the woods? -
It's amazing.... someone told Billy Volek about this post and he has already informed his team that he will retire before accepting a trade to Buffalo. But he did say he might be interested in the Head Coaching job here.

There is only one way it can be turned around: change of ownership. That is certainly going to happen. The bad news is that the franchise staying in Buffalo is a long shot; a very long shot. Or in footbal terms, a "hail mary pass."

Cmon Buddy snatch up your old picks
BillsfaninFl replied to Ever Since '86's topic in The Stadium Wall Archives
Vincent Jackson is Lee Evans. If the two switched roles, Evans would be a hot commodity and Jackson would have so-so numbers. -
Good point. Teams with good starters can afford to bring in guys who are projects. Apparently, the Bills do not realize that they are not among this group. The only question is it denial or deception?
-
And that would make you happy?

All this bad news makes me cowher, thinking that the HC situation is really grimm. But the pain will end shortly. A coach will be hired. He will be touted as exactly what the Bills need to become a contender. He will say the right things in his initial meeting with the press. We will all breathe a sigh of relief, because the messiah has come. The members of this board will focus on the player acquisitions that will make it all come true. After the draft, there will be renewed optimism among the fans. ..........................................

You're missing the point. It's not about "tell me what's happening," it's "here's what I want you to do." The difference is having a philosophy of hiring good people and letting them do what they are better at than I am, versus hiring inexpensive people, then micromanaging them into certain failure.

Here's what Brandon needs to do next
BillsfaninFl replied to BillnutinHouston's topic in The Stadium Wall Archives
Why would Brandon do that? He's at the top of his game, being successful at bringing in the cash. He is in the inner circle, having been promoted twice in the last two years. He's the number two man in an organization where the owner runs it like a family-owned business. And historically, anyone who challenges Ralph (Bill Polian, Wade Phillips), even if he makes the team a winner, is gone. Under those circumstances would you confront Wilson? -
Coaches don't win SBs with new teams: not that simple
BillsfaninFl replied to a topic in The Stadium Wall Archives
As I stated the last time we discussed this point, the mission is to hire a Head Coach who gives the team the potential to win it all. It doesn't matter if they have won the SB before or not. The main thing is... do they know how to run the overall field operation? When the organization's management makes it their business to get to know who the coaches are around the league and what their strengths are, they usually hire winners. When the team management operates at the periphery, they don't know who is worth hiring (as Wilson admitted). This is a huge disadvantage for a team, because a guy might be a great positional coach but not really be qualified for HC. -
What about this idea for Ralph?
BillsfaninFl replied to Webster Guy's topic in The Stadium Wall Archives
The problem is that it is not 1923, and I have read a number of times over the years that the other NFL owners would never let another publicly owned team into the league. I don't recall reading a detailed explanation of why. -

I'm starting to realize no one wants the Bills job
BillsfaninFl replied to PromoTheRobot's topic in The Stadium Wall Archives
Welcome back to reality my friend. You tried to be upbeat for a long time, but there is no evidence that what we all wish for will come true. It is a good bet that whomever gets the Bills Head Coach job will be a coordinator who thinks it's his only chance to get into the HC ranks, or a desperate guy who was an unsuccessful HC and can't get another shot at it. Either way, he will not have the resources to succeed and his reputation will suffer, even if he has the skills to do a great job. Being a top coach in the NFL is comparable to being a star player. It's incredibly tough to get the right opportunities - then if you do become one of the elite - your value can easily decrease for any of a variety of reasons. Then you become desperate to revive your career. (See Terrell Owens.) Let's just hope that something wondrous happens soon, to make the future look bright for the Bills and us. -
Well there is something positive in any negative situation. This is the first post I have read here where all the responses have been unanimously against the original poster's comments. We have to give Darthice credit for bringing us together. I feel so satisfied and secure, I'll sleep well tonight.

"Housecleaning turns into reorganizing basement"
BillsfaninFl replied to bigskyfan's topic in The Stadium Wall Archives
Great use of the famous quote. I think more people are finally beginning to see the truth. Our only hope is for someone to buy the team and keep them in Buffalo. Only then will there be the potential for an NFL winner in western NY. -
McNabb is still a very good quarterback going into his tenth year. But for most of his years he has suffered a variety of injuries and missed a lot of games. Put him behind an inexperienced O-line and he may not make it through the preseason.

One that I have seen mentioned several times... "No Head Coach has won Super Bowls with two different teams." What is the point here? "Therefore, we should not hire a Super Bowl winning coach because it's impossible to win another one with a different team." IMO, we want a HC who is capable of helping a team to win a Super Bowl. If he has a SB ring that does not guarantee success, but it also does not disqualify him. So what is your favorite irrelevant comment (not counting me starting this stupid post)?

Not all of these are offensive coaches. Some are decent guys.

If we could bring TD back, would you do it?

My guess: Ralph has a list of candidates and told Nix to interview a bunch of name coaches, but after a few weeks hire one from the list. The list: (Same size as the final GM list) Perry Fewell - Ralph knows him, the price is right and he coached the team to a win against the Colts. Alex Van Pelt - Ralph knows him, the price is right and he used to be our back up quarterback.

Well, if nothing else, we have proven that there are no qualified therapists posting here. But since the others put their two cents in, I will too. The story is both funny and depressing. And depressing can make you forget all the good things in your life, making it seem like nothing goes right. Of course, feeling trapped in a job that you hate makes everything worse. There are two ways to combat this, other than pissing away more money on drinking too much: 1. Think about all the good things that have happened in your life (my wife and I are still together, we are blessed with a daughter, etc.). 2. Ponder "what's the worst that could happen" (use your imagination). If you seriously spend time doing this whenever life sucks most, it is amazing how it can make you feel better. If nothing helps, force a smile on your face every day. It will drive people nuts wondering what you are up to, and you can laugh about it to yourself.

Grimm tells us why the Bills gig isn't that good.

Could it be that you are reading more into these comments than are really there? This just sounds like the standard "I'm going to find out all about it before I make a decision."
