Better Call Saul - final season April 18,2022
May Day 10 replied to davefan66's topic in Off the Wall
Throughout the episodes, she began to grow a little suspicious. At one point Gene excused him and Jeff from the kitchen to speak in private. She rolled by the garage once when they were looking at stolen goods and they pretended to work on a car, and she observed the 3 schmoes suspiciously meeting in the garage at night. So Gene called her to get Jeff out of police custody. He seemed very educated on the legal system. At one point he slipped, saying bondsmen arent needed in Omaha, and it isnt like Albuquerque which perhaps gave her a clue that he could be from there. -

I thought it was a great ending for saul and Kim. -
Primetime thinks he’s too good for the Hall of Fame
May Day 10 replied to Charles Romes's topic in The Stadium Wall
I agree. All sports seem to have gotten very loose with hall of fame honors. I would like to see another layer for the true 'greats' Its the same thing with jersey retirements. Everyone wants quick gratification. Teams want something to market. Paul ONeill is having his jersey retired as a Yankee. Ryan Miller's number should be nowhere near retirement-echelon -

Its pretty certain the show will not end with him being hidden again, especially hidden with Kim. There is a precedent set now that the story is far from over if/when that happens. Kim is like adding steroids to Saul's conning. I am guessing there will be one last major con in this episode that wraps things up between the authorities, Kim, and likely his death/incarceration. Similar to Felina in Breaking Bad I cant see where it can possibly go though. he seems hopelessly wrapped up in being a villain right now. Kim is pretty miserable in her fake existence/guilt. IMO the happiest end that we can hope for is if Saul goes to prison and the last scene is him running some sort of fast-talking con on some jacked and confused inmates. But what is a potential happy-end for Kim? It seems like there is no winning there I guess that Kim may sacrifice herself somehow so that Saul may live. "Im happy you are alive" was literally the only positivity from her in the last episode. -
To be perfectly honest, downtown buffalo is the same way. If there isn't some event to draw folks in from the suburbs, it's pretty much dead as a door nail. There needs to be fortune 500 anchor tenant(s) there resulting in people actually residing in and spending downtown

There isn't much prequel remaining I think. I think you could get some 2 hour movie or double-episode type things. Perhaps digging into fring's beginnings or the salamancas/Cartel. Maybe even a fun thing with skinny pete/badger... or huell/kuby Anything stretched into full episodic television would be too much -

Sure, but you are led to believe internally, Jesse is generally a kind person and was motivated to lead a normal, quiet life in a small town in Alaska. Maybe externally, there is a story where someone recognizes him and blows him in, but that is external. Through the story, we are generally led to believe that if you follow the vacuum-man's instructions, you will be safe. With Gene's turn to Saul again, and the pattern of the the 5+ seasons, we see that Saul cannot help himself to schemes and committing crimes, while dragging people in with him. Now it is far beyond mischief or somewhat harmless petty fraud. Not only do you have the 'danger' of him being identified and turned in to authorities, you have to assume at this point he will perpetually commit crime until he is dead. I cant picture these writers leaving that large of a loose end. -

After some thinking.... it could be a trick to give us all a feeling he is going to be in a grave soon, and symbolize that "Gene" is dead. It doesn't look good though. Saul going after a nice man with cancer, and making a series of bad decisions really erodes that 'sympathetic figure' veneer. I don't know how you can have Saul keep on keeping on at the end, and not assume he will have a lot of damaging hijinks later on, which doesn't seem like the writers' style. To date they have never really left anything open-ended. You have Jesse, but you were led to believe that he wanted to/could lead a rather un-eventful life in Alaska. -

Yeah, he went full villain going hard at that guy with cancer. Also, the little foreshadowing with the mini grave fading with him laying in it isn't a good sign -
Got about 16 years to go (hopefully). A lot depends on where my kids are and what they are doing. The older I get, the more I warm to the idea of a better climate.

I heard him on the radio talking about this. It does have sound logic and I cant say I completely disagree. I am hopeful the Bills can get 1st-seed-level wins this year. I flip to 1520 sometimes. Its all sports betting talk, which honestly, bores me to a bit. Its just a habit to flip there because it used to be 1270 before it converted from CBS Sports Radio to another bastion of angry political negativity and division. Anyways. Often, it sounds like they make very compelling cases for certain wagers and I feel convinced. Then the thing will play out and they will be completely wrong about half the time.

I wonder what the current NCAA landscape will do to the prospects of the Leipolds and the Linguists of the world. You would think there will be even more of an arms race and a lot of retreads among the top 30 or so programs. The Kansases, Arkansases, and Illinoises are facing a much steeper hill at this point. Maybe you can get a payday, but you cannot achieve any success. Bowl games will be tough to come by, and your seat will probably get warm pretty quick. At least in the MAC, you can make a good living, remain pretty safe if you do a reasonably good job, and create a legacy that is better than 3-and-done at Kansas followed by coaching at Bryant and Stratton.

pretty spot-on. In order to make the Gene world compelling, there would need to be danger. As of now, all known danger is dealt with (other than maybe the authorities). Gene is paranoid and all, but I dont think we could get a full episode - plus of captivating TV from there. I guess its possible they build up some other threat(s) we dont know about while the BB timeline is going on, but at this point it would feel rushed. My guess is we are going to see intertwining with BB, and possibly some sort of Kim/Saul reunion at the end (or we get punched in the gut). I was expecting to see a Gus prequel episode, but now would be surprised if it were in the last 3-4 episodes of the series (I guess the 2nd last episode of BB was basically Walt living in a cabin in NH though so who knows). Giancarlo Esposito also hinted he would love to dive into that backstory in the future, maybe hinting that it wasnt really dealt with here. -
I have been immersed in the world of youth sports for a few years now, and I haven't seen this yet (still got time) Hockey gets a bad rep, but so far its been pretty clear sailing and well-regulated. Bad actors and their kids are normally culled from the respected organizations. Baseball on the other hand in WNY is a snake pit of awfulness.

I agree. We are in the minority, but I cant stand the red helmets. White looks perfect. White standard and white retro standing Buffalo and I am fine forever. If they need to wear those hideous red jerseys for a game a season to appease whoever is the official apparel company of the NFL, then do it 1x.

I watched "Girl in the Picture" last night. While it is a powerful story, I didn't really like it. The whole thing bummed me out. I don't think it was a well-constructed documentary though and definitely could have been a tighter package than the 1:50 run time. -

I think it was a powerful gut punch to Mike's character that Nacho's dad dismissed him as being the exact same as all the other thugs. -
Im a Roger Waters fan.... but yeah, thats a pretty bad take/look by him

I actually felt the opposite. I thought it started off nicely with the aftermath, and petered out starting with Gus' odd wine tasting interaction. The weak part of the show for the last 3 seasons has been the Saul/Kim side of it. It lost a lot of its appeal when Chuck died. Its tough that the Salamanca/Gus thing is well wrapped up. It will be tough to pick this thing up for the last 4 episodes after the carnage/resolution of the middle of this season. Very interested in the post-Breaking Bad timeline though. That could be pretty intense. I also wonder what we have in store for the Breaking Bad timeline and if we are going to see some cool perspective and more depth on some of the events that directly occurred in that show. I thought the episode was going to end with Walt/Jesse's visit to Saul's office. -
Nothing is ground breaking so far... I do like hearing that the seats will be close/high. Think "The Aud" vs that UFO that is downtown now. You had high/steep/close seats and a nice overhang. The new arena grades way back, has little in the way of overhangs, and the result is many bad seats, poor sightlines, and far away from the action. If you are going to have 60,000 seats, they better all be on top of the action.

I thought that the Bulls' big chance was if the Bills ended up leaving town. People might rush to create a lively tailgate scene and atmosphere to fill the void. Probably would be an ACC school now (not sure what that even gets you at this point). -

As far as the BB universe goes... it is crazy to see Mike bested at every turn by Lalo over the past season and a half-plus. Gus should be firing him. It made for great television though. Over many episodes, we are conditioned to expect Mike to have an uncanny ability to read every situation 6-steps ahead and out-wit everyone. Gus to a point as well. So Lalo constantly out-maneuvering them takes the audience for a ride. -

I always was attracted to the premise that the program was a few good seasons, some money influx, good visionary AD, and some local excitement away from breaking into (what was) a 'major' conference (meaning the AAC or CUSA in their earlier forms), which could make them more relevant on a national stage. As it is, they have had some good seasons and had good performances against Power-teams. Now, that seems to be dead. While they could have potentially joined with the Cincinnatis, the West Virginias, the Memphises, and the Houstons of the world. Now those teams have jumped up into the big boys. I would never delude myself that UB would be in the same conference as Clemson or Ohio State. MAC seems like a decent home for now. I guess with NIL, the fact that UB will not be a tenant at the new Bills' stadium, and the fact that they can never seem to get excitement/traction in the general public, UB would never take that next step at this point. Why hang on? Maybe a Mountain-West, Sunbelt, MAC, AAC, and CUSA playoff and separate ranking would be a fun and exciting thing? I remember Bucky Gleason took some heat for the idea... but I wonder if UB decided to scrap its football program and go all-in on Basketball, if they could possibly grow into the upper-class of basketball schools and join a major conference that way.
