12/1/2022 - NFL Week #13 - Bills at Pats* - Post game thread

That was a terrific road win. -
Would Cole Beasley come back to Buffalo?
May Day 10 replied to Warriorspikes51's topic in The Stadium Wall
they have missed Beasley for sure. -
I said it last year when the seas parted for the Bills, and the same holds true for Miami this season: An impressive record is impressive. It is very hard to win games, especially with consistency. These are all world class athletes at the top of their profession, highly competitive, and driven by money. The coaches are all the best strategists in the sport. Everyone is giving their all. The difference between #1 and #32 is not all that huge, and within that range, teams are much closer. Many games also come down to a few bounces, calls, and luck. To come out 8-3 is impressive!

You never know with goalie prospects. Its a strange position to forecast. You need to scatter-shot prospects and some are bound to pan out. If/when you can get a goalie out there via trade or FA, do it. Its unbelievable that they are in this position at this point in time, when Adams has had 3 summers to address it. Depending/waiting on a guy in the pipeline to take over in a few years is foolish and I really hope they aren't even thinking it. If they are, they need to join the Murray/Botterill/Bylsma/Housley/Kruger pile.

Dolphins @ Bills - When do we find out if moved to Sat?

Can it be flexed to Sunday night? -
High ankle sprains are usually super painful. We would have noticed more pain.

I like Campbell and Detroit. They have a nice team and a lot to look forward to. If they can upgrade from Goff and if Campbell is capable of learning from these clock management issues, I could see them at the top of that division for the next few seasons.
-
I thought Detroit committed unforgivable time and game management errors down the stretch. It was almost inevitable they would score a touchdown but they were 100% trying for a field goal. Not only that, they left way too much time on the clock. I want someone to do a deep dive into that halftime show to figure our what was happening and how that was green-lit. Ugly game. Those are the games brady and new England would always win. It would drive us nuts.

This is a very strange halftime show -
That seems kind of unfair

Diggs caught complaining to McDermott on broadcast
May Day 10 replied to YoloinOhio's topic in The Stadium Wall
That's what I thought. Just 2 professionals discussing the job on hand. IMO, that is a great sign, especially seeing things got rolling a bit after that. -
NFL Week # 11 - Browns at Bills (Detroit) - Post game thread

I decided I really like Jacoby Brissett. He is the next Ryan Fitzpatrick. Moves around, always ends up starting, gives his all and doesnt really do too poorly, nobody dislikes him... -

I'm done with Davis. Sick of his drops -
Bedard will be in the NHL next season. The Sabres have a worse record now than this time last season. Can't wrap my head around that. Those extensions to the gm and coach, followed by their social media spiking the football about it doesn't seem like a good idea. It's like a never ending nightmare

What are your thoughts on John Murphy as our radio announcer?
May Day 10 replied to Einstein's topic in The Stadium Wall
That is fine. I dont mind homerism, I get these are regional radio casts. The "us" thing comes across as awful and should be relegated to DIII sports (actually, I did PBP for DIII football and my color guy was reprimanded for saying "we' a few times, lol) The loud cheering though. "GIVE IT TO US!!!" is over the top and not professional at all. Calling the Bills "Lucky Suckers" for stopping them on 3rd or 4th and short was a bad look too. Jack Edwards for the Bruins in the NHL is another that takes it too far. I wouldnt like it if a Buffalo announcer went that far. Van Miller wasnt screaming into the mic like a beast either. He was still in his announcing voice. I listened to some of his other stuff (Allen) since I wrote that. He is a really good announcer. Great voice and effect on the air. -

If/when Murphy retires, I hope they dont go the route of that dummy for Minnesota or have someone in like Ron Wolfley for Arizona. I get being a homer, but yelling and screaming, calling the team "us" and "we", and taunting the other players over the air is terrible. Van Miller used to paint the scene so well. Down, distance, direction, formation, fluidity of the play, distance, player names, etc. It was all given in such a clear manner. His voice and delivery would subtly change at important points of the game to give an air of urgency. What a gem, we were so lucky. Murphy's voice is alright. I like the guy and don't think he is embarrassingly bad. You can definitely do a lot better though. He fails at all those things Van Miller used to nail. -

Those minnesota guys make me cringe. Don't want overweight advanced age loser cheerleaders. Murphy is ok to poor. He doesn't paint the picture well. There can be a pass and you don't know if it was 4, 10, 20 yards until way later. Down, distance are sometimes forgotten. His tendency to repeat words as filler when something big is happening is annoying too. -
Sunday's game vs Cleveland is being moved to Detroit
May Day 10 replied to Simon's topic in The Stadium Wall
OK. Im actually fine with this -
Yeah, it really shouldn't be rocket science. The Leafs were last in the NHL for a year 7 years ago and have been a 100+ point team ever since. Somehow the Sabres have finished dead last in the league 4 times since this drought started and 2 of those times since the Leafs got Matthews New Jersey was worse than the Sabres last year and is somehow 13-3-0. The Rangers had a 2 year rebuild a few years ago. The Islanders got good almost overnight when they signed Lamoriello and Trotz. Vegas never even had to rebuild. But here it is this giant process constantly mapped out to keep the window of competing like 3 years in the future.

I think pretty much everyone (realistic) agrees. I said mid-80s to 90s would be good progress (as long as it isnt the formula where they are out of it by Christmas and go on a tear in meaningless games in February and March vs backup goalies and no pressure.) They are pacing toward 76 points again which is no-man's land. Vegas books, who is good at this stuff had them between 77 and 78.5 (6th or 7th lowest in the league I think?). Maybe that is just how good they are and all this 'wanting to play in buffalo' thing is marketing and window dressing. That is not progress. I don't understand how the goalie situation is the way it is while Adams has been here this long. You have young players who you want to develop? Give them something better than a 70 year old Craig Anderson and Comrie. I am still hopeful they pick it up and stack some wins again. 4 of the next 5 are very winnable. At least we aren't Ottawa who pushed chips in the middle and are at the bottom. I get the whole effort and try hard thing... but that Vegas game was tough. The Sabres lost numerous effort-battles that resulted in goals, when they had reason to be inspired and had a decent crowd behind them.
-
I just dont get what the expectations are. I hear a lot of 'well we arent supposed to be good' talk still. This is Adams' 3rd full season as GM. Where are we? A 76.5 point pace and 2nd last in the Division. I guess that is a 1.5 point improvement over last season and the exact same as Botterill was doing 4 and 5 years ago so there is that. They should probably race to give the GM and coach more extensions. They just allowed Eichel to drag his sack over their and our fanbases' faces the other night. At some point they need to make actual gains in winning and the standings. What is going to change next season to make them a playoff team if they are still stuck in the 70s-range in points (which is the bottom quartile of the league in a typical season with loser points)? a lot of this is venting, but its also true.

Wawrow hints an Internal Issues with the Bills
May Day 10 replied to CountDorkula's topic in The Stadium Wall
That's really a crummy and unfair "LOOK AT ME" thing to do. He should just stick with his awful music takes -
They should have dropped allen back after a fake handoff, then had him throw the ball 500 feet in the air out of bounds to kill the clock
