Ryan Jensen signed a 4 year 42 mil deal last season making him the leagues highest paid center.

Wouldn't be surprised if it took something in that range to get Morse. Ideally you limit the guaranteed dollars as much as possible considering the concussions.

I believe an offer of 4 yrs and 44 million will make Mitch Morse a Buffalo Bill, then offer 5 yrs and 60 million for RT Darryl Williams.

That would take only 23 million of the 80 million the Bills have in cap space.  Leaving 57 Million.  Assume 9 million to draft, leaving 48 million, 3 yrs and 12 million for DT Jordan Phillips, 4 yrs and 16 million to TE Jesse James, leaving 40 million, Sheldon Richardson 42 million for 4 years leaving 30 million and then 36 million for 4 years to Tyrell Williams leaving 21 million.  Then try to trade down hopefully with the Redskins.

Swap 9 and go down to 15, get two Redskin 3rd round picks.

    Pick 15 - TJ Hockenson

Trade 2nd and one of the 3 3rds to Packers to select Hakeem Butler

Trade 2 remaining 3rd round picks to move back into the 2nd round and draft G Chris Lindstrom

    4th Round - Terry Mclaurin

    4th Round - Bryce Love

    5th Round - Kahil Hodge

    5th Round - Edge

    6th Round - CB

    7th Round - LB

    7tj Round - P

Tyrell Williams would be a good FA signing and I think this would set us up well for the draft and picking up Kyle's replacement at #9. I'd also like to see us go TE/WR/OL in rounds 2-4, since most of the players will have similar ratings.

Tyrell is my favorite FA WR, however he has publically he wants to be paid as a WR1, I don't see him getting that type of money from the Bills.  Let's see if anyone overpays for him and see if the price comes back into the 8 to 10 million per year range. Highest priority is C and RT, then TE and DT.  Hope these spots are filled prior to the draft.

Despite what he says about being “judicious”,Beane paid big bucks for Star, so based on the limited time he has been here, he has demonstrated he will pay to fill a hole..

He won’t spend big on three OL free agents as suggested by the OP though., nor should he..

I think the Bills will spend big at C and RT and at a lower level at G.  I think DT (2, Phillips and FA), and TE like Jessie James.  That opens the draft for TE and WR in Rounds 1 & 2, I'm hoping Hockenson and Butler.

Brown, Morse and Williams may be the three best offensive lineman on the market. I like the optimism but too expect the Bills to sign all three of them is a bit absurd and unrealistic, especially considering the money it would take and the other needs on the team.

It’s much more likely to land one of Morse, Paradis, Williams and Brown, and then draft another lineman, and sign one more lower tier offensive lineman.

I'm thinking the Bills will sign a C and RT as a minimum in FA, also will resign Phillips at DT and add a TE and possibly a WR

Yes if that was the best deal.  No one we want will be drafted from 10 to 14.  So take the 2 thirds if that offer is only offer and move to 15.  We would have 3 picks in 3rd round and 2 in 4th round.  Package a couple of those up and get back into 2nd round or maybe even trade our 2nd with one of those 3rds to get back into the first round.

That's exactly what I was thinking.  So much will depend on the combine and then the Pro Days.  But I think if Haskins and either Lock or Murray is taken by the time our pick comes up, the Redskins will want to jump in front of Miami to get one of the three.  Then with three third we could deal 2, get a 2ns 2 and end up with a 1st, 2 2nds, a third and two in the 4th and 5th, a 6th and a pair in the 7th.

    Lots of possibilities

Thats almost my exact mock right now (albeit trade down with Was).  First 3 picks are the same and would expect a RB picked at 74 or in the 4th.

Carolina has a number of needs, including WR with funchess likely leaving.  So not sure they are going to want to give up that 2nd rounder to get to #9 given there are going to be some good picks likely on the board for them still at 16.

Also, doubt we need to include one of our 4ths either for this swap.  I really wouldn’t want to send our 4th back in this deal and value wise we don’t need to.

As Carolina has only 6 picks now (may change with compensatory choices), I assume just for draft value choice points the 4th would be needed as the pick is not for a QB where their is a premium.

    9th pick  1350 points,105th pick 84 points -

    total - 1434

    16th pick - 1000 points, 47th pick 450 points -

    total - 1450

    Fair to both teams.

Panthers have DJ Moore & Chris Samuels at WR so not a position of great need.

  7. Was looking at team needs and Carolina is looking to get a quality edge player.  With the 9th pick I only see Bosa, Allen and Ferrell taken by the time our pick comes up.  Would you pick up the phone and offer the following trade to Carolina:

Bills trade 1st (9) and their higher pick in the 4th round (105)

    Carolina gives Buffalo (16), and 2nd (47)

    Bills now have 16, 40, 47 and 74 in Rounds 1-3

    With those picks:

    16 - TJ Hockenson - TE

    40 - Hakeem Butler - WR

    47 - Oshane Ximimes - Edge

    74 - Michael Dieter - O

Would you make the deal and if so who would be your choices at those picks

If, a big "IF", the cardinals do fall in love with Murray and select him 1st overall, I wouldn't put it past the Patriots to try and swing a trade for Rosen to be the heir of Brady

Please let Rosen go to the Patriots.  That would be fantastic, he is nothing close to Brady and with the sub-par weapons on their roster he will totally su**

As a Bills fan I can only hope.

The people writing Rosen off already are fools. The Cardinals are not taking Kyler Murray.

Kingsbury was hired because of his fit with Rosen. No other reason. If he can't develop Rosen he is out of a job.

It will be interesting to see the year 2 development of each of last years 1st round QB's

The Bills, Jets and Cardinals will be adding offensive line and skill position players.  The Ravens have Greg Roman to put together a customized game plan for Jackson and honestly, will be see much improvement in Baker's game.

Well, first I live in Tampa for over 20 years so of course I’m a Bucs fan, but make no mistake I bleed Red White and Royal Blue and grew up on South Park Ave. and went to St. Francis.  I just wanted to clear up for anyone else I’m not a Bucs fan on a Bills website.

The only time Im in conflict is once every four years and every eight years I have my Bills jersey on in the Bucs home game.

As far as #5 it’s a toss up.  They a,ready have a highly productive offense as stated above, but have the pics to pick the top CB in the draft or OLB.  I know they invested in defense last year, but I would keep putting resources throughout the draft on defense like I hope we invest heavily in offense.

It’s too bad the Bucs only have $15 mil in cap space and maybe they move on from McCoy, but hope not as he is $13 mil on the cap.  If that does happen, I can see them reach for AB.  He was a stud under Arians in the past, and responds well to him.  The team could make it happen if they want move things around with their cap.  I can’t even imagine a team with AB, Mike Evans, OJ woward and company with a solid O Line.  If Winston can’t make it happen and take another step forward, they’ll cut him and start again.

Totally hypothetical, but a Bills defense including coaching and a Bucs offense, and we would have given the Pats a run for their money.  Not that they would win, but they would have been phenomenal games.

Most people don’t watch the Bucs up north and understood, but they were dynamic on offense.  So there is my answer, but the draft is a crap shoot as we don’t even know who each team picks up in the first and second round of free agency.  Bowles proved to be a better DC in Arizona, vs. Smith who made things too complicated.

Anyway, although I made a comment on the Bucs, I know we are here to discuss the Bills.  I appreciate you’re question and a Trey White CB is desperately needed down here.

Maybe Greedy Williams to give you a shutdown CB

Rosen had a horrible O Line, probably even worse than ours, so I see them trading out as there is always someone in the market for #1, and fill the line and several other holes.

Im no Rosen fan, but he had a defensive minded coach on a terrible line and is smaller in stature than some others, so they have to build a team.  They should have never fired Arians.  He took them from the year before 5-11, and bad before that after Warner said goodbye to three years of double digit wins and playoffs.

I’m excited for my Bucs ( after my Bills ), as you’ll see an even better offense out of the Bucs this year.  Now can they pick up in free agency and the draft a defensive line backing Corp outside of David, and draft for an overhaul of the secondary.  They rated most of the season as #1 or 2 in offense almost the entire year.  They just sucked on defense.

Hey Bucs fan, like the offense if Winston dosent self-destruct.  Defense did draft a number of secondary players last year and they did gain experience.  Will Gerald McCoy be released to gain cap space?  Do you resign disappointing T Donovan Smith?  What are your thoughts for the Bucs pick at 5?

Saying Rosen is a failed experiment is like saying the bread has failed because it hasn't risen ... before you put it in the oven. Way way way way too early. With maybe two or three more way's.

If we look only at the year 1 results Rosen was by light years worse then any of the other 1st round picks.

His style is a classic dropback QB, limited mobility kind of guy.  That means he needs a solid offensive line and good personnel at the skill positions to flourish.  The Cardinals have a horrid offensive line, limited weapons on the outside or at TE.  David Johnson is wasted in the current situation and the Cardinals need more picks to build the roster.

They can try and trade down but teams trading up for a QB can give up far less to come up to picks 3,4, or 5.  So, what options are they left with?

Keep the 1st pick and draft Nick Bosa or Josh Allen.

That does little to improve the team in 2019, does not generate much fan support and puts the Cardinals in a long rebuild.

Keep the 1st pick, select the QB they like best, and put Rosen on the block.

By drafting a QB first, it lowers Rosens trade market value as the Cardinals are then almost forced to deal him for less then market value.

Trade Rosen for the best offer and select their new QB to build around.

This is the pathway I actually think they are going to go.  It makes the most sense in both the short term and the longer term rebuilding.

  13. This is a really interesting topic, thank you for the post.  In looking at the situation, a new HC with a chance to write his own story tells me your hypothesis has merit.

The Cardinals have a few pieces, but tons of holes to fill.  The Josh Rosen pick last year was pretty much a failed experiment.  So the question becomes does Kingsbury go with Murray to rebuild, trade Rosen to a team like Denver (long-term after Flacco), Washington (Alex Smith is done), Miami (are they more interested in tanking for 2020 QB').

Also, what must be considered is the need to draw fans to their stadium.  Fans are not going to be motivated to fill the seats with a first round edge rusher and Josh Rosen at QB.

If I was the GM of the Cardinals I would put Rosen on the market and see what offers I would receive and then select whichever QB best fits the new direction of the head coach and use the additional picks to start rebuilding the roster.

Based on where they are at with their current personnel and the level of competitiveness of the other teams in their division a say being a contender by 2021 is the goal.

  14. Absolutely Allen over Jackson.  I think both Edmunds and Vander Esche are both going to be muitiple time pro bowlers.  We ended up with Teller an Wallace.  O'Neil could have alleviated our need for a RT.  Chubb may have allowed the Bills to move off McCoy in this off-season, Dickson as punter, never would draft a punter.  Miller could have been the WR needed in this draft.  The actual draft produced a long-term slot corner in Johnson and Siran Neal could be that hybrid S/LB the Bills D wants and needs.

But it is an interesting comparison.

  15. Just for fun this is who Pro Football Focus selected for the Bills in the 2018 mock draft completed 10 days before the draft

    Round 1

    Lamar Jackson

    Leighton Vander Esche

    Nick Chubb

    Anthony Miller

    Wyatt Teller

    Brian O'Neil

    Michael Dickson

    Levi Wallace

Based on what we saw from our actual draft class vs the performance of the players listed above.  Would you prefer the actual or what we did.
