What difference does it make? When will everyone realize that the problem with this team IS NOT OUR FREAKIN' RUNNING BACKS. Willis averaged 3.63 yards per carry today. Travis averaged 3.86. Combined, they had 23 carries for 85 yards. Some guy named Chester Taylor, who isn't as good as EITHER of our running backs, managed 89 yards on 21 carries. Why? Because our defense had to fear and respect their passing game? Yeah, right. Our offensive line sucks. Our quarterback isn't any good. So what difference does it make whether we start Travis or Willis? Either way, we can't put points on the board. Isn't that the object of the game when you are on offense? Hey, I got excited watching Willis play today. He clearly has come a long way, and if he's named the starter over Travis, I wouldn't blame the people who have to make that decision. But please, please, please, don't act like that's the answer. Whatever Travis can bring to us from week to week, Willis can do the same. And vice versa. But until our offensive line starts playing better, until our quarterback quits playing like a little B word, until our receivers quit dropping multiple passes, until we quit making so many mistakes with penalties, missed assignments, play-calling, etc....it matters very little whether or not we have #20 or #21 (or both) in the backfield.

So where do we go from here?
Indy Dave replied to Mike in Syracuse's topic in The Stadium Wall Archives
I agree with some of what you said, but you made eight suggestions on how to improve this team, and none of them have to do with Drew Bledsoe? He had five turnovers today and hasn't played well for two full seasons now (1/2 of 2002, 2003 and 1/2 of 2004). Come on Bill. -

Mike, I hit the reply button, but I don't have an answer. Just speechless. I'd love to hear someone answer Mike's questions. -
How about a running back? No, another tight end. Can you imagine that quartet of Neufeld, Campbell, Euhus and another juse like them? Just try and stop us.

I hope I'm wrong but maybe Willis didn't quit on that play. He hasn't returned to the game since that play, and even when we've used two RBs, it's been Travis and Burns. CRAP....I hope Willis did not get hurt.

I'll go ahead and say it because if it was Travis Henry, it would have been posted 10 times already: How about Willis quitting on the last interception return? No excuse for that. Travis was partly responsible for the game-clinching touchdown by Seymour against the Pats a few weeks ago, but at least he sprinted all the way down the field trying to catch him. McGahee stopped running at the 30-yard line despite being about 5 yards behind the defender. Thankfully Eric kept trying and caught the guy to save a touchdown. It's one thing to watch this team fail, but to quit on a play is inexcusable. Willis is coming around as a running back and probably even deserves to start. But don't quit on a play.

I don't know, but I know he stiff-armed Ray Lewis on two consecutive plays to make positive yards when it looked like they would result in negative yards. When a guy stiff-arms Ray Lewis and gets five-yard gains instead of three-yard losses, you've accomplished something. It's a hunch that he is getting closer to 100 percent. What, do you disagree? He may not be completely ready until next year, but he's getting closer. That's all I said.
-
Wasted timeout because Euhus didn't know the play. But hey at least he was a good draft choice. I mean, this team needs more guys like Tim Euhus and Ryan Neufeld, especially since we traded away a draft pick to get Mark Campbell. We should draft another tight end next year.
-
Willis look great. I love Travis, but Willis is getting closer and closer to being 100 percent. I will say that Travis made a nice block on the third and one play on Drew's pass to Campbell that gave us first and goal. Now get Willis back in there.

"Buffalo still in pretty good shape."-- those words just came out of the play-by-play man's mouth. I want what he's drinking. The Bills defense gave up two long drives that resulted in 10 points. While it's frustrating that the pathetic Baltimore offense was able to do that, the fact is our defense has held them to 10 points for the entire game. None in the second half. Only about six yards of offense in the second half for the Ravens. But our offense has scored -1 points. Two field goals and a touchdown allowed. I'm glad Willis is playing so well. I'm a huge TH supporter, but if he gets beaten out for the job, so be it. But as you can see, the big problem isn't our running back. The offensive line is no good, and Drew has three turnovers.

Glad the coaching staff is seeing the obvious

Well Drew finished the drive alright. -

You are right. Now we need to finish the drive. The Ravens had zero yards in the third quarter. We need the same type of effort in the fourth quarter. -
Maybe I'll check back next July....
Indy Dave replied to zonabb's topic in The Stadium Wall Archives
Agreed, but no one said we would have HAD to take a quarterback. I can look at it from the standpoint that our 2005 first-round pick was used on JP. No problem with that. But it sure would be nice if the 2004 team could do something so that the draft pick Dallas is getting is #14 instead of #3. That's not too much for the fans to expect from the 2004 Bills. -
Travis looks great out there
Indy Dave replied to BF_in_Indiana's topic in The Stadium Wall Archives
Yep, 10 on his first two, nine on his last five. We have two good running backs. Not great, but definitely serviceable. The problem isn't Travis or Willis. -

Hate to ruin your day even more, but that top 5 pick you're talking about....we won't have it. We traded it Dallas for the pick that got us J.P. Losman. But hey there's always the second round of the draft. We know we can get another Josh Reed, Ryan Denney, or Chris Kelsay with that pick. -
OK...I guess I can buy that. I think we've looked pathetic all year. There have been nice plays here and there by all three units, but I haven't seen a good effort for 60 minutes all year.
-
Worst came you've ever seen? I didn't see the Miami game last week, but this game looks like all of the others during the 2004 season. How is this game any different?

You're not going to get anyone to argue about Travis Henry stinking. But DO NOT put any more blame on him than anyone else on this team. Give me a freaking break. If that play that resulted in Deion's interception and touchdown was intended for Travis, the TH-haters would be blaming it squarely on him. No doubt about that. Willis has eight yards on three carries, Travis has six yards on five carries. Neither of them can get it done with this offensive line against this defense. The fact is neither Willis nor Travis is playing as well as Chester Taylor, Drew Bledsoe is not playing as well as Kyle Boller, Eric Moulds is not playing as well as Travis Taylor, and on and on and on. First series of the second half....two drops by Josh (what else is new), and a two-yard run by Willis. Terrible punt. Yep, it's all Travis Henry's fault. -
ESPN just said that x-rays on Womack came back negative.
-
I think they called Varitek's ball a hit. With Varitek's lack of speed, Renteria might have thrown him out had he fielded it cleanly. Could have been scored either way. Ortiz smoked that ball that hurt Womack. That was definitely a hit. If he fields it cleanly, it may have been a doubleplay and would have prevented a run, but like I said, that's definitely a hit. He scorched it and it took a weird hop. Just saw the graphic on SportsCenter. Looks like they did call an error on Renteria. My mistake.
-
Hey T-Bone and the rest of you Sox fans....did your heart skip a beat when Manny misplayed that ball in left? The error was one thing, but for a second I thought his knee was going to buckle.
-
Boston throws its worst starter and he gets rocked. The Red Sox defense looks like complete crap. The Cardinals score nine runs and don't make an error. And the Red Sox win. I'd say you guys are in great shape. The pressure was on St. Louis to win the first game. For one, they had to cool off Boston, which just beat the Yankees four straight. More importantly, now the Cards face Schilling and Pedro. Advantage Boston. Then again, that's why you play the games. I just think the Cards needed Game 1 and they didn't get it done. Top of the eighth...bases loaded and one out with two of their better hitters coming up and they didn't take the lead. They will be thinking about that for a while.

Has anyone seen any of these movies, and if so, how were they? Cellular The Forgotten Friday Night Lights Ladder 49 Team America Also, has anyone read any reviews for The Grudge? The other movies showing at the theatre by our house are Raise Your Voice, Resident Evil, Shall We Dance, Shark Tale, Shaun of the Dead, Sky Captain and the World of Tomorrow, Surviving Christmas and Taxi. I either haven't heard of these movies or don't want to see them, but feel free to comment on them if you've seen them. I could change my mind.

Congrats to the Cards and their fans. St. Louis is a great baseball city and it's been a long wait for them. Best of luck against the Red Sox and enjoy it BF. Having your team win it all is a wonderful feeling. Maybe in a week or so, you'll have that feeling. Hopefully, you'll be as humble then as you appear to be today, as opposed to how you were the last month or two of the regular season.
