Keep telling me, Red Sox fans, about how you guys aren't obsessed with the Yankees. Your team just (finally) won a World Series title, and millions are at a parade chanting about the Yankees. It's truly pathetic. And BF...notice how they are not chanting Cardinals suck. You know why? Because it goes without saying when you look like a team sponsored by Chico's Bail Bonds and get embarrassed on the national stage. Losing a 3-0 lead to the Sox sucked, but it's better than getting whipped. If only you guys could have got out of a first inning without allowing a run (or four), maybe there would have been some hope for non-Boston fans for a World Series that gave viewers some form of entertainment.

Lori has just won "Post of the Year" honors with this gem. There are several people on this board who know their football, though there are many more who don't know much and worse yet, they don't know that they don't know. Lori, you're at the top of the list for football intelligence.

(OT)My last World Series post(until next year)
Indy Dave replied to The Poojer's topic in The Stadium Wall Archives
It was truly a team effort, but if you had to give it to just one player, Manny had to be the guy. 99 times out of 100, naming a co-MVP is bogus anyway. Make a decision. Like in 2001, when they named Randy and Curt co-MVPs. Um, one guy won three games, the other won one. If they won twice apiece, I might could buy it. But the fact is, Randy won his two starts, then got huge outs in the ninth (maybe the eighth too...can't remember) in Game 7. Curt pitched very well, but he stood to be the losing pitcher in Game 7 (thanks to Soriano's homer in the top of the eighth) had the D-backs not broken through against Rivera in the bottom of the ninth. Johnson came in and kept it a 2-1 game, giving Arizona the chance in the ninth. Also Pooj....Wakefield got hammered in his only start in this year's World Series, so there's no way his name should be on your ballot. -
Damn it...get it right, erynthered! It's 82, 82, 82...246 toothpicks. HOT WATER BURN BABY!!!!!!

Does it get any worse for a Yankee fan?

Jesus, where to begin. 1. The wildcard bitches reference was a joke. Read the rest of my post, you degenerate. Also notice the little man winking. That should have given you a clue. 2. The Spankees thing...that's not funny. It never has been. See, read this: "The World Series champions are the Boston Red Sux." See what I mean? The whole changing the nickname thing is not funny, no matter what side of the fence you're on. 3. Biatch? Did you just type the word, "Biatch?" Thanks for letting me know what kind of juvenile I'm dealing with. 4. The Red Sox done something? The Red Sox done something? Congratulations, you're the first person to ever come across as a wannabe gangsta and a redneck in the same post. The Red Sox done something, biatch. 5. If the Yankees are, in fact, in Fenway when the flag goes up, the joke will be on the Red Sox. I don't guess you have the mental capacity to figure out why that is, but try really hard. Just make sure your head doesn't explode. 6. The Yankees won the World Series in 2000, so we have won a title this decade. So have the Diamondbacks, Angels and Marlins. 7. Congrats to the Red Sox and all their fans....even the stupid ones. -

I don't know your definition of traditional, but if you mean players coming up through the system, then your off base. Tino, Paul, Brosius...none of them did that. Jeter, Rivera, Posada, Pettitte, Bernie...they all did. But it's not about that. It's about getting the right mix of guys, just like the Red Sox did for the second half of the '04 season and the playoffs. Derek Jeter isn't overpaid. That guy is one of few who have earned their salaries. Kevin Brown...now he's overpaid. -

Who's crushed? Don't even start talking about obsession. You'll make a fool of yourself if you argue that Yankee fans are the ones obsessed with the Red Sox. You've earned the right to talk your trash, but don't get ridiculous. By the way, not only am I not crushed, I actually cracked a smile last night when the final out was made. I tried to stop it but the damn thing came on my face anyway. -

First and foremost, this Yankees fan congratulates the Boston Red Sox and their true fans on a job well done. It was a great accomplishment and something this particular team deserves. Now having said that, there are some facts that need to be pointed out: 1. The Red Sox wanted Vasquez more than they wanted Schilling. 2. The Red Sox Nation was crushed when the A-Rod deal fell through. ESPNews was giving round the clock discussion about the pending trade, and all of you Red Sox fans were DYING for it to happen. 3. You had no idea what you were getting when you signed guys like Bill Mueller, Kevin Millar, David Ortiz, and Mark Bellhorn, not to mention many of the bullpen guys like Timlin and Embree. 4. When Nomar was traded for two .240 hitters, Red Sox Nation was LIVID with the front office. Now...all of this obviously worked out. This bunch came together, played great baseball throughout the second half, got into the postseason and sandwiched two lopsided wins over the Angels and Cards around a great series win over the Yankees. Like I said, they deserve all of the credit in the world. Their moves worked out a little better than the moves the Yankees made. But you are sadly mistaken if you think Yankee fans are going to drink the kool-aid because the Red Sox finally won a World Series. You are sadly mistaken if you think the rest of the country outside of the fans of the Red Sox, Yankees and Cardinals are happy for you because you were supposedly the little guy. I think columnist Mike Lopresti said it best when he wrote, "What the ALCS has are two of a kind. One just better at it than the other. This not to ignore how the Red Sox have been destiny’s Rosen dummy. Favored victims of the Bronxian Empire. A long-running series of autumnal bad dreams. But it must also be mentioned what they are not. They are not Hickory from "Hoosiers." They are not Rocky. Not the Bad News Bears or Charlie Brown’s All-Stars or the Salvation Army. They are a franchise that spent lavishly in a headlong quest to get what it wanted. A team that attacked its quarry with a $127 million payroll this season, far behind the pinstripes, but far ahead of anyone else in the game. The Red Sox will start Curt Schilling in Game 1 and Pedro Martinez in Game 2. And for those two arms, Boston pays roughly the equivalent of the entire Tampa Bay Devil Rays’ roster. Don’t sound much like the people’s choice, do they? The Red Sox are as cuddly as dry ice." So Red Sox fans....your team played the Yankee game with regards to free spending and look what it got you-- a World Series victory that you will cherish forever. You probably don't give a rat's ass about your payroll right now, do you? Of course not. Well, now you know how us Yankees fans have felt all these years. So soak it up, cherish this title...even talk your trash. We'll see you in the spring. Bunch of wildcard bitches shouldn't even have made the playoffs anyway. -
Good answer, BF. I'm being serious. While things don't look so good for the Cards, don't give up just yet. Take it from a Yankees fan...it's not over. While it's close to being over, the hardest win for the Cards will be tonight. If they can get that win, each one afterwards gets a little easier. Just like the Red Sox vs. New York in the ALCS, only perhaps even moreso because of Boston's history.
-
Just my opinion...if the Yanks didn't blow the series to the Red Sox, New York would be in the same spot Boston is in right now-- up 3-0 and going for the sweep tonight.

What's so hard to believe? Last year, when Travis was the only guy on the offense doing anything, he received as much criticism as nearly anyone on the team. That's just the way this board is. They all deserve criticism. Ralph. Tom. Mularkey. Every other coach. Every player. Equipment managers. Players' wives. As far as I'm concerned, they all suck. They're a frickin' embarrassment.

Let's just say for a minute that Willis starts Sunday and then goes on to start every game from now until 2010. Let's also say that Travis Henry doesn't get a meaningful carry the rest of this season, gets traded in the offseason, and never plays for or against the Buffalo Bills the rest of his career, however long that may be. Is there any reason that ANY of you should be ripping Travis Henry? Say what you will, but the guy has been a pretty good football player for us the last three years, particularly the last two. His shortcomings have been discussed ad nauseum on this board, and the blame that guy has received this year, and in years past for that matter, has been nothing short of ridiculous. The guy has been a warrior and when he's been on the field, he has given nothing but his best effort. And he's been productive too. Right now, Willis is the better back. Who knows if that will be the case a week, a month, a year, or five years from now. But if Willis continues to be our starting running back, and Henry is a backup or gets traded eventually, I'd like to thank Travis for the way he played each week. Let's not forget that the guy was the only bright spot for our entire offense during an entire (2003) season despite playing with injuries that keep most of today's players out of the lineup, especially in the midst of a terrible season like we were going through. You have to make a long list before you can rank Travis Henry on a list of problems that continue to plague this organization over the last few years.
-
The guy has earned it. The decision to start Travis up until this point has been the right one, but it's Willis' time. I don't think our won-loss record would be any different had Willis been the starter all along. But he earned the job on Sunday. And this is coming from one of Travis' biggest supporters.

Probably the best quote you'll read from a Bill.
Indy Dave replied to PIZ's topic in The Stadium Wall Archives
First of all, there is plenty of complaining about Travis around here. Second, while Travis has struggled this year, the fact is he has contributed something positive the last couple of years. With Travis producing, people complained about his fumbling, blocking and pass-catching ability. Now he has improved tremendously on his fumbling problem, and his pass-catching has improved slightly (still can't block well), but his production as a running back, for whatever reason, has slipped. I guess it would be too much to ask for him to still put up 1,300 yards while improving in other areas. That seems to be Bills' fans luck anyway. But at least Travis has given us something over the last 30 games. You can't say the same thing for Drew. It's never one person's fault, but the last 30 games certainly would have been better had someone else been our quarterback. -
I looked for this in other threads but didn't see it. Sorry if it's been posted already. Buffalo woes

When this Red Sox team acts like a bunch of professionals, which they have done since the start of the ALCS, they can be easy to root for. All season long, their goofy ways (and the fact that I've never liked the Red Sox because I'm a Yankee fan) annoyed me. But since they beat Anaheim in the divisional series, it's been a focus on baseball instead of the haircuts, the dancing, the hugging, the 37-step handshakes, etc. Having said that, I'm still for the Cardinals because, well, they're not the Red Sox. But if Boston wins two more....(Pedro voice) "Well, what I can do other than to tip my hat to them and call them my daddy."

I guess I missed the interference. I don't think I saw the replay. Probably because my eyes point towards the ground when I'm puking.

Did anyone notice #21 giving up on that ..
Indy Dave replied to Greybeard's topic in The Stadium Wall Archives
I pointed it out right when it happened on the Bills-Ravens game thread. If it was Travis, this board would have c-r-a-s-h-e-d, regardless if he had a real chance to catch him or if he was about to get clobbered by a Ravens blocker. Hell, some people here would have ripped Travis if he tore his achilles and quit running. The bottom line is, Willis didn't come back into the game after that play. I was worried that he did get hurt. Even when we went with a two-back set after that play, it was Henry and Burns, so I was concerned Willis suffered an injury on that play and that's why we pulled up. I'm assuming he's OK though, and that he will get 25 carries in our win over Arizona on Sunday. -

How p*ssed off is the defense?
Indy Dave replied to PromoTheRobot's topic in The Stadium Wall Archives
I won't argue with you, but the fact is, our defense had to know the only way we'd win this game (with our offense going against that defense) was to win 6-3 or 9-6. Yet, the Ravens, minus their two best skill players on offense (Heap and Lewis) shoved the ball down our throats on two possessions in the first half. That led to 10 points. How can an offense with Boller, Chester Taylor, BK Sams, Travis Taylor do that to our defense? Having said that, it's not realistic to expect our defense to do to their offense what they did in the second half for the entire game. But sadly, that's our only shot at winning, given the state of our offense. -
So where do we go from here?
Indy Dave replied to Mike in Syracuse's topic in The Stadium Wall Archives
YES! Exactly! Like I just said in another thread, I don't think it matters if Willis is named the starter of Travis, nor would I argue against that decision. We still would have the same crappy offensive line. Like you said, the play of that unit dictates things, allows us to get into a rhythm.
