  1. I don't know. Manning and Brees are locks. The third one, I think, should be Trent Green. Way more yards, completions and TD passes. Only two more picks. Fewer sacks. Higher rating. Has had to produce with his star running back out of the lineup much of the season. Lousy receiving corps. Sure, Big Ben plays for a winner, but we are talking about an individual award.
  2. Since you're bringing up the past.... 1923, 1927, 1928, 1932, 1936, 1937, 1938, 1939, 1941, 1943, 1947, 1949, 1950, 1951, 1952, 1953, 1956, 1958, 1961, 1962, 1977, 1978, 1996, 1998, 1999, 2000.
  3. Ditto all of that to all the people and their lame-ass anti-Yankee sentiment. To all those people who say... "It's easy rooting for the Yankees." To all those people who call every Yankee fan a bandwagon fan... what Darin said.
  4. Another vote for Reed.
  5. Well, Duke gets many of the nation's best collegiate players who buy into Coach K's system. And you hit the nail on the head....they often win with good pressure defense. They score 85 points a game and shoot a lot of 3's, but they also are giving up only 57 points a game, and they don't shoot a lot of mindless long-range shots. The vast majority of their three-point shots come as the result of executing their offense and creating open looks.
  6. I see it across the country every week. Look at our updated stats for DI men's basketball. The teams who rely heavily on the three-point shot...the ones that make (and often take) the most three-point shots are Troy, Belmont, Vanderbilt, West Virginia, Furman, Texas, Auburn, Brown, Butler and Samford. One ranked team in that bunch (Texas). The others, except West Virginia, all have at least three losses already. Troy and Belmont are 1-2, and their combined record is 3-13.
  7. That is such a CROCK.
  8. Point taken. It's not so much that people don't MAKE the 12-16-foot jumpers. It's that they don't even TAKE them as much nowadays. If they are not shooting a three-pointer in a half-court set, then guards are just lowering their head and driving to the basket like a bull, hoping to score the basket, or draw a foul, or dump it off to a post player, or kick it back outside for a three-pointer.
  9. Well...I would have liked to have seen (OT) on this as well. I thought something huge happened involving the Bills. Anyway...as a Pacers fan, I'm glad O'Neal has been reinstated. Keep in mind, however, that the NBA front office may try to block this supposed reinstatement. I also find it interesting that this news comes out now, and that if the reinstatement is upheld, Jermaine will be eligible to play in the Pacers game on Saturday. You know...the game on Christmas Day. At home. Against the Pistons. On ESPN. Coincidence?
  10. And I'm quite sure that he has recently expressed his confidence in Ankiel because he is dominating 14-year old kids down in Ecuador or wherever the hell he is. Yet Vasquez, despite winning 14 games and being more accomplished, needs to be unloaded.
  11. Every once in a while, I'll watch parts of a game on ESPN Classic or NBA TV. It amazes me how the pace was so much faster back then. The other thing that stands out is the art of hitting the 12-16-foot jumper. Nowadays, it's dunks and three-pointers. Those are what make SportsCenter, so that's what players try to do.
  12. On top of that, they were getting Vasquez, who has proven during his career that he can eat up a lot of innings and record a lot of strike outs....in the National League. In a pitcher's park like Dodger Stadium, I think getting two highly-regarded prospects and Javier was pretty good. Not great, mind you, but they could have done worse. Shawn Green has been a disappointment and Brad Penny could be one breaking ball from his arm falling off like Dave Dravecky. LA should have made this move.
  13. San Antonio is another example.
  14. Like many people in this thread, I turned my back on the NBA after the '80s. I watched the finals, mostly to see what MJ was going to do next. When he retired, I went years without watching any games at all. When I moved to Indianapolis, I couldn't help but to start following it a little bit. Then my interest increased more and more, and by the end of last season, I was watching at least some of nearly every Pacers game. When this season started, I was pretty excited. The Bills were struggling, the Sabres weren't playing...I needed something else to get excited about until college basketball started. The Pacers had an excellent team and a coach who I think is the best in the league. They went to Minnesota and won, and had some other quality wins. Then they went to Detroit and kicked their ass. Then we all know what happened. After the suspensions, it was interesting to watch a dismantled team still manage to win games, including another victory over the Timberwolves. But shortly thereafter, reality set in and now they are struggling to stay over .500. It's a shame for Pacers fans because this team was a serious contender to win it all. They were playing a good brand of basketball, one that even the casual fan could learn to appreciate it, much like I did. Carlisle is a fantastic coach.
  15. There should have been three or four more "harder" songs on the album, but I still like it. Track 3 is chick flickish, but I admit I really like it. 5, 6, 7 and 8 are all good songs too. Vertigo is a great song, but I wouldn't mind going a few weeks without hearing it. That seems impossible though.
  16. Don't Fear The Reaper. What else?
  17. "I find tinsel very distracting." In case any of you forgot how Festivus was created... "It all started when I was at the store buying a doll for George. Just as I went to grab the last one off the shelf, someone snatched it before me. As I was raining blows to his head, I thought there has to be a better way."
  18. Nothing beats more cowbell, but there's nothing wrong with Will Ferrell doing Robert Goulet performing rap songs like "The Thong Song" and "Big Poppa," is there?
  19. Absolutely. I was going bananas on that play. I had a great moment at the Colts game last night. I wore my Bills sweatshirt and saw two guys with Chad Johnson jersies on (they had driven up from Cincy after our game). They saw me, smiled and I yelled (in classic Newman to Keith Hernandez fashion), "Nice game, pretty boy!" They immediately got the Seinfeld reference and we had a good laugh.
  20. Almost. If the Pats somehow lose tonight, the Steelers clinch homefield throughout the playoffs with a win at home against Baltimore next week. I would think that if New England loses tonight, the Steelers come out with even more juice than normal. They will be jacked to face the Ravens anyway, but with a chance to rest their players in the last game, you would think that would be even extra motivation.
  21. Well...it did cost us a timeout, which one could argue hurt us at the end of the half. We probably would have had to kick a field goal anyway, so it wasn't that big of a deal. It also cost us one of our challenges, but that turned out to be a non-factor. That's about all there is to it.
  22. Oops. Sorry...I thought the deadline was next Friday.
  23. I'd like to add to that. Wait...you covered everything. Never mind.
  24. There is no question that as right now, Terrence deserves to be the AFC representative in the Pro Bowl as the kick returner. But Dante Hall is getting hot, having returned a couple of kickoffs for scores in recent weeks. After making a big name for himself last year, I'm worried that he is going to pull a Rueben and get in the Pro Bowl on reputation. Terrence deserves this honor. Get over to nfl.com and vote him in.
