Just how do you figure that the NCAA runs sports like a dictatorship when EVERY decision the organization makes is made by committees that are made up of presidents, athletic directors, coaches and administrators who work on the campuses of the very schools that make up the NCAA? Giving Jacksonville a pretty good running back (not great, mind you, but pretty good) in exchange for a third-round pick is the equivalent of giving up the ninth pick in the draft in exchange for Rob Johnson? Sorry I don't call that payback. Give them Shaud Williams for a third rounder and then we'll call it payback.

For what it's worth, Parrish was drawing oohs and aahs from his peers during the combine. NFL Network didn't show all of the drills they were going through. Braylon Edwards was raving about his quickness in one drill.

Through my connections with Dwight Adams, I got to go to training camp for five days in 1997. It was an awesome experience. I had free housing and meals, got lots of free garb, and tons of great memories of meeting many players, all of the coaches and sitting in on team meetings. We also drove to Orchard Park and toured the stadium, where I had my picture made while standing next to several players' locker rooms.

It's got to be Travis Henry. The guy played an entire season with 11 broken bones in his leg, three broken ribs, and a torn achilles. Willis McGahee? That guy missed a game because of bad breath.

By the way, the one Piston player who didn't join his teammates on the floor to salute Reggie was Darko Millicic. He also left the floor to go to the locker room as soon as the final buzzer sounded, instead of joining his teammates in congratulating each other for the series victory and the Pacers on a hard-fought series. So not only did the Pistons pass over adding a player the caliber of Dwayne Wade and Carmelo Anthony, they took a guy who not only sucks, but is an ass as well.

I was at the game on Thursday night, and I have been to a lot of sporting events. But that final few moments when everyone, including most of the Detroit players (all but one actually) came towards the Pacer bench and joined over 18,000 fans in one final ovation for Reggie, was one of the coolest sports moments I've ever been a part of.

For what it's worth, I talked about this very subject to Sean Salisbury when I was in Chicago a couple of weeks ago. Sean thinks he will get in (same goes for Thurman), although they may not be first-ballot inductees.

Preston bio: Strengths: Takes good angles to blocks, wastes very little motion and is fundamentally sound. Has adequate overall strength. Plays with excellent intensity and is physical at the point of attack. Uses hands well, plays with a wide base and works hard to sustain blocks. Gives great effort on every snap, rarely makes mistakes and is consistent. Possesses good size, does an adequate job of bending at the knees in pass protection and can hold his ground working against bull rushers. Keeps head up, shows good awareness and can adjust to line stunts as well as the blitz. Makes good line calls and is a leader on the field. Weaknesses: Lacks ideal range, will struggle if asked to regularly pull around the play-side corner and will have problems reaching some blocks at the second level. Doesn't have an explosive first step, won't knock many defenders back at the point of attack and will struggle to keep quicker one-gap defenders out of the backfield. Lacks ideal lateral mobility, has some problems adjusting to the moving target in the open field and is vulnerable to double moves in pass protection. Overall: Preston red-shirted in 2000 and he appeared in two games of the 2001 season. He took over as a starter in 2002 and has been the fulltime starter the past three seasons. Preston is a blue-collar player that never stops working and rarely makes mistakes, but his potential is limited by his lack of natural ability. He doesn't run well enough to consistently reach his blocks at the second level and he isn't quick enough to prevent penetration in pass protection against elite one-gap DT's. That said; Preston's work ethic, size and sound technique are enough to give him a chance to compete for a roster spot as a reserve in the NFL. In our opinion, he's worth taking a chance on in the seventh round but not any earlier.

Yep...that's where I was born. Right on the Thruway, about the mid-point between Syracuse and Albany. Didn't grow up there because my dad joined the military when I was young. I still have relatives in upstate NY, and I've always kept my loyalties to the teams I grew up rooting for.
