How do you feel about the upcoming season??
Indy Dave replied to LabattBlue's topic in The Stadium Wall Archives
I can't say I am all that excited, especially about the offense. I've never been excited about JP being our quarterback, although admit to being fooled by the first quarter of the first game last year. Our options are journeymen who don't do anything for me either, although as backups go, they are fine. Our best offensive player is Willis McGahee, a guy I don't trust when things get tough. Hopefully his head is on straight and he earns the label as being a top back. He's capable. Like I said, he needs to be focused and (in his defense) he needs to be used properly by the new staff. As for the line, it was addition by subtraction with regards to getting rid of Williams and Anderson. We'll see how this new unit does; I honestly don't know what to think of this group. People around here love Jason Peters and rightfully so, perhaps. I just know his past so while I think it's great that he's gone from undrafted to starter with a long-term contract in a relatively short period of time, I just worry that he might forget what it took to get him to this point now that he has this contract. Hopefully that won't happen. I really like Duke Preston but I guess I like him more than most people around here. I like Lee Evans but I worry that the lack of a true #2 is going to hurt him. I think we have a handful of guys who are capable of being good #3 receivers. I just don't know if Roscoe, Reed, Price, Aiken or Davis can be good enough to open things up for Lee. I'm reading great things about our tight ends but none of them have done anything in this league, really. I'd be surprised if the defense didn't bounce back after last year's dramatic nosedive. You never know how rookies are going to play, but people in the know have told me that Whitner was an excellent pick. Whether we drafted him eighth or 14th, we got ourselves someone who will be a very good player. In time, I think Youboty, Simpson and McGargo will be good players. I don't think the D will be as good as were a couple of years ago, but no way we are as bad as last year. Love the special teams; no reason to think that unit won't be among the best in the league. I hope that doesn't sound overly negative. The truth is, while I don't think we are that good of a team right now, I have some hope because I don't think there are many good teams in this water-downed, parity-driven league. As for the schedule, it all depends (in my opinion) on the four-game stretch in Weeks 3-6 against Jets and Vikings at home, and then the Bears and Lions on the road. I think those four games dictate our success, or lack thereof, this season. I expect us to be start 0-2 so going 3-1 or better in those four games will determine, in my opinion, if we have a shot at 8-8 or even 9-7. -

It's the tale of a shepherd who takes his flock on a train ride across Kansas. Hence the name of the movie...

It is. Trust me.

She Don't Want Nobody Near by The Counting Crows. Saw them in concert Saturday night. Excellent show, as usual.

The Fray performed that song on Letterman last night. Good song.

What was the most heart breaking non-playoff game?
Indy Dave replied to duey's topic in The Stadium Wall Archives
And if memory serves, the two-point conversion allowed the Pats to win by four, thus covering the 3 1/2 point spread. I would have loved to been in Vegas when that went down... -
Lindy Ruff Wins Jack Adams Trophy
Indy Dave replied to BillsGuyInMalta's topic in Off the Wall Archives
Good for Lindy. He deserved it. Final voting totals were Ruff 155, Laviolette 154. -
Used to be a fairly frequent poster, but don't hang around as much as I used to because of a job change. I am just now seeing this post and wanted to say RIP to BiB, and express my condolences to all who knew and loved him. What a terrible tragedy.

You can't handle the truth! Son, we live in a world that has walls and those walls have to be guarded by men with guns. Who's gonna do it? You? You, Lieutenant Weinberg? I have a greater responsibility than you can possible fathom. You weep for Santiago and you curse the Marines. You have that luxury. You have the luxury of not knowing what I know; that Santiago's death, while tragic, probably saved lives, and my existence, while grotesque and incomprehensible to you, saves lives. You don't want the truth because deep down in places you don't talk about at parties, you want me on that wall - you need me on that wall. We use words like honor; code; loyalty. We use these words as the backbone of a life spent defending something. You use them as a punchline. I have neither the time nor the inclination to explain myself to a man who rises and sleeps under the blanket of the very freedom that I provide, and then questions the manner in which I provide it! I would rather you just said thank you, and went on your way. Otherwise, I suggest you pick up a weapon and stand a post. Either way, I don't give a damn what you think you are entitled to!

McGahee’s foot in mouth disease is nowhere
Indy Dave replied to ASCI's topic in The Stadium Wall Archives
Yes, but Thurman made his comments before the age of the internet. Therefore, those comments do not count. -
No, and he wasn't the one who called the pass play on first and goal from the 3 either. I buy into the argument that Willis is just another good but not great back. I don't buy into the fact that he was the reason we lost yesterday.
-
Yes, and watch the USC game for an illustration of how to hit a hole, and to find yet another running back who will be a better NFL back than Willis next year. We have a bad offensive line. No argument here. Not as bad as Houston's though, and their running back gets four yards a carry.
-
I love this thread. If this was Travis Henry, he would be getting crucified by most people here. Willis, like many of the players on this team, is a piece of garbage.

Sixth grade. We were living in Arkansas at the time. It just seemed like the right thing to do. Just kidding. The wedding was two years after college.

That's my wife (12 years in April). On top of being way too good-looking for me, she is completely cool. And I'm sure she sometimes wouldn't mind me being shot.

Points taken, however it's not the lack of wins that's testing my loyalty. I have hung on through worse seasons than this. It's just the way the organization is run. The way that we have been building for success and indirectly pointing towards this season to be the one when we made the leap. The manner in which it has all gone so wrong. But you are right...I guess the Bills' failures should have nothing to do with the Colts. So I guess I should be taken out and shot.

Tell me how I'm a bandwagon fan. Read my post. I took on a second-favorite team. Do you know what second-favorite means? I also used the sentence, "I'll always be a Bills fan." Last night, I watched the Colts improve to 11-0 and could only think how much I wished it was Buffalo having that much success. I remembered the days when we had multiple games on Monday Night Football and performed at a high level in front of the entire nation. The point of my post wasn't too remove myself from being a Bills fan. Yes, I abandoned the Bills-Chargers game to watch the much-more entertaining Colts-Bengals game. So sue me. I have a Bills mini-helmet and mousepad in my office. I have a room in my house filled with Bills memorabilia. I come to the office each Monday and bore my football friends and co-workers about what happened in the Bills game the day before. I visit this site just about every day, and have done so for years. And yes, I am having a great time watching a great team and a great organization chase history. That does not make me a bandwagon fan.

I'd like to think that Tom has spent zero minutes and zero seconds reading TSW. I never posted this before, but through my connections at work, I was able to work for the NFL Network at the Combine (held here in Indy every year) last year. I was timing 40s, charting vertical jumps and cone drills. I talked to a few scouts and eavesdropped on conversations. I wouldn't say people laugh at the Bills, but I can tell the level of respect for the organizations isn't very high. (Why should it be, with the way we've been in recent years?) There were two people who seemed to walk around like their sh** didn't stink. One of them was Bill Belichick. The other was TD. I think one of them has earned the right. The other...what the hell has he done? Just watching him, and reading his quotes, and looking at the overall results of the moves he's made as GM of our franchise....I don't know...I just don't like the guy.

Maybe it's better for my sanity, but I used to watch EVERY game with so much intensity. I know many of you know what I'm talking about. I clapped, pumped my fist, and yelled for all of the positives, and yelled at all of the bad plays and bad calls. Lately though, I just sit, watch the game, don't utter a word and change facial expressions....just sit there. What's worse, I just finished watching the Pacers beat the Clippers and had more fun watching that game than I did watching the Bills today. As a Pacers fan, I was really into the last quarter and a half (that's all I watched). I can't believe I had more intensity for a freakin' NBA game than I did for a Bills game. I also admit that I watched about five plays of the Chargers game last week. I wanted to watch the Colts-Bengals game more. I thought it would be a good game to watch...it was. I thought we'd get killed by San Diego...we did. My loyalty is being tested. Anyone who has known me for the past 30 years would find that hard to believe. I have been a true fan since I was a child. But the truth is, other than Takeo and Moulds, there isn't anyone on this team I just love to watch play. I think Mularkey is in over his head. I didn't like TD from day one. On the other hand, I have always liked the Colts, for no particular reason. Then I moved to Indianapolis. They are a good team, very fun to watch. I was always a Polian fan. Always liked Manning, back to his Tennessee days. LOVE Marvin Harrison. LOVE Dwight Freeney. (Yes, I'm a Syracuse fan, and the Colts have two other SU guys on the roster.) Love Tony Dungy. I like how they have been loyal to their best players. So yes, a few years ago, I adopted a second-favorite team. I'll always be a Bills fan, but each loss stings less and less. I'll take responsibility for getting an interest in another franchise, but I have to think that some of this comes from the fact this organization has misfired more times than not. I don't see much reason for hope, and I'm usually an optimist.

NFL is definately coming to LA!
Indy Dave replied to The Tomcat's topic in The Stadium Wall Archives
Right now, I'm looking outside at a big hole that was a parking lot six weeks ago. It's the future home of a state of the art facility that is going to host dozens of NCAA men's and women's basketball tournament games (including a Final Four every handful of years), while also serving as home of the Indianapolis Colts and probably a Super Bowl in the next 10 years. You can take this city off of your list of "better candidates." -
