QB Tyrod Taylor to start Week 1
metzelaars_lives replied to Kirby Jackson's topic in The Stadium Wall Archives
Do you wanna know something interesting I'm starting to realize about TBD? If you go to the last page of any thread, there are people arguing with and insulting one other. Seriously, try it. Like every thread. -

QB Tyrod Taylor to start Week 1

Well I told you guys on two separate occasions that EJ was not part of the equation to start so it wouldn't surprise me if he was in fact third. Personally however, I thought he showed enough on Saturday to move up to #2. I have a feeling that all three of these guys will take at least a handful of meaningful snaps this season. I hope that's not the case but it's just my gut. -

You abbreviate the word "have?" -

Thought Ladler might make the team. Also I know a few people around here had Buchanan on their 53.
-
It's Taylor. You heard it here first. I'm not sure EJ starting on Saturday was much of a smokescreen. I'm not sure anyone interpreted that as an indication that he had somehow already earned the starting job. I told you that even if EJ had the game of his life, he aint starting. He had the game of his life. He aint starting.

Look I'm not a Cassel guy but can we please stop with the microanalysis of preseason stats? You're citing Cassel's YPA in four drives now? That's a little over the top.
-
If they are in danger of going over the cap at any point, I would have no issue cutting Cassel. I have come around to the idea that Manuel could be a #2 at the very least. It's not like I'm advocating letting Dareus walk in order to make sure we have a good third string QB. But for now, I think it wouldn't hurt to keep him around just in case. Last thing we want is a 2014 Arizona Cardinals situation.

It's freaking Terry Pegula's fracking money. It's play money. Nobody cares about $5 million. I just don't see how you can say what you "saw over the last two games." He looked good/great in the first game and then yesterday he looked like Matt Cassel- a serviceable backup who can complete easy, short throws. Hey that's something that EJ Manuel couldn't do in his last two regular season games. I couldn't disagree with you anymore on this. I think it makes no sense to cut him.

Dude you gotta chill man. You are presuming all these things that you have no idea about. Russ Brandon? All I said is that if it's Cassel, which again, it won't be, then we can deduce, or at least I will, that it was Roman's call.
-
Could be. But it would also lead me to believe that if Cassel is named the starter (I'm saying it's Taylor, done deal) that it was in fact Roman's call.
-
Link that Kaepernick was Roman's guy? Look, I don't know about you, but Jim Harbaugh comes off, to me at least, as kind of a headstrong guy who probably wasn't afraid to make his own calls. Not to mention, he was a quarterback himself.
-
Right? Why can't more people understand this. I also hate the "obviously Rex doesn't know anything about quarterbacks" narrative. Someone yesterday said, "well yeah but he really messed up the Sanchez thing." What does that even mean? Sanchez sucked. If Rex Ryan's GM drafted Aaron Rodgers, he would be considered a great QB master and if Mike McCarthy's GM drafted Mark Sanchez, we would be laughing at him for not knowing anything about QB's.
-
Dude it wasn't a report. It was a dude who told me directly and if I told you who it was and the circumstances surrounding it, you would apologize to me for questioning me. That being said, it was before the Cleveland game and for all I know Roman prefers Taylor now too.
-
Remember two years ago, Jeff Tuel looked UNBELIEVABLE in a preseason game against the Colts? Didn;t he connect with Easley for like 100 yards in ine quarter or something? Actually Easley looked really good in a couple preseasons. I think he might be a more capable receiver than many realize.
-
I don't want it to be Cassel and I don't think it's gonna be Cassel but I can GUARANTEE you that if it is Cassel, it's because Roman preferred him.
-
I have absolutely no idea who Jerry is and/or where you're going with this. My nextdoor neighbors are Barb, an old lady whose yard I help take care of, and Lars, a pot grower.
-
Alright guy, let's slow down here. We are getting way too excited about a preseason game. The guy played great. You say you've watched a lot of football. Just think about that uncanny feeling you get two weeks into the regular season every year where it occurs to you that what you're seeing is totally different from what you saw in preseason and you remember that preseason means nothing and you try to remind yourself for next year. We will all have that feeling in a month. Are you worried about the Bills defense after yesterday? I'm not. I am worried about Carpenter however.
-
Yeah that's right, I said Tyrod Taylor is already as great of an all time QB as Joe Montana. Read what I wrote. I said his two drives yesterday couldn't have been any better. Yes, Joe Montana in his absolute prime couldn't have done any better than Tyrod Taylor did yesterday in his two preseason drives. Taylor was 12-13. Would Montana have gone 15-13? I also said that a lot of you used the Marrone/coaching excuse way too much for EJ. Those who said that may have been right and I may have been wrong. I'll own that when Manuel does what he did yesterday in a regular season game.
-
I've said it a bunch already- that was a really strange game. It was like an NBA All Star game or something. I feel like anyone could've come in and looked good. What's lost in all this is that Cassel didn't even look terrible. I feel like last year, he would've won the job in the preseason with his four drives. I mean, EJ and Taylor both looked other-worldly good. So good that I don't even know what to make of it.
-
OK saying that Manuel has a higher ceiling than Taylor is one thing. I disagree with you and I think you only believe that because of where they were drafted, which is entirely misleading with respect to both of them, but it's a rational thought. But you said that drive yesterday was Taylor's ceiling. That would be like if Mike Trout hit three home runs in a game, stole two bases and made the sickest catch ever, saying "I don't know guys, I think we just saw his ceiling." You literally couldn't have had two better drives than he had.
