Should the Bills tag Glenn?
metzelaars_lives replied to EmotionallyUnstable's topic in The Stadium Wall Archives
Everyone on this website is always trying to prove themselves the ultimate football intellect by telling everyone how important the offensive line is. Well now we have an elite player at the most important position on the offensive line and some of those very same people appear to be undervaluing him. You pay the guy whatever it takes. Period, end of story. Tag him, pay him now, whatever. As long as he continues to wear a Bills uniform. -
Super Bowl LI - What's Your Max $ To See Bills?
metzelaars_lives replied to WotAGuy's topic in The Stadium Wall Archives
I could. I would definitely rather be IN BUFFALO. Being at the game would obviously be great but if they lose, it would suck to be in either place but if they won, it would be way cooler to be in Buffalo. EXACTLY. For one, I'd rather be in Buffalo regardless of cost and for two, it would cost me a $300 plane ticket and that's it. I have however, made an eternal vow that I will be in attendance for the Bills' next playoff game no matter where it is. That I can promise you. -
Scathing article in NYDN on Peyton Manning
metzelaars_lives replied to YoloinOhio's topic in The Stadium Wall Archives
All I'll say is this: when Newton walked out of that press conference, the FIRST thing I thought- before all the talking heads chimed in the next day- was, hey at least the guy cares. In 2016, we think that all these athletes only care about the money but it was evident that the guy really wanted to win that football game. Which is, according to this article (and substantiated by the fact that no one even remembers it) EXACTLY what people said about Manning when he acted like a baby after the loss against the Saints- at which point, he was a lot older than Newton is now, mind you. Has anyone ever called Manning a punk? Did they call him a punk when he used to act like a baby on the sidelines and in front of the media by always yelling at his linemen and throwing them under the bus? Nope. He was always viewed as the consummate professional. And I have already stated in this thread that I think the race card is wildly overused in America in 2016. I think there's a case for it here though. When the lady wrote the article about what should she tell her daughter after seeing the guy dance in the endzone, that was way over the top. And that was not, as an earlier poster suggested, "one lady's opinion" or whatever, that was a widespread sentiment. Is his dancing immature? Sure. But it's utterly harmless. And I can assure you that if a white guy danced like a goofball after TD's, everyone would jokingly make fun of his dance moves but it would all be viewed in good fun. Why was he a "douchenozzle" this season?? He is, by all accounts, a terrific teammate, he gives balls to young children, which makes their year, he got nearly choked up when asked about his relationship with Greg Olsen during media week, I thought he handled the real douchenozzle, Jerry Sullivan's, barrage of questioning very professionally. So the guy does some silly dance when he scores? That's it. You know that prior to this season when Kubiak stepped in, Peyton Manning wouldn't even let Brock Osweiler get any reps in practice? He was never interested in helping to groom the kid, never talks to him on the sidelines or anything, he was always paranoid that he might perform well and threaten his job. But he's so charming in those Nationwide commercials, isn't he? -

How is race not pertinent to this conversation? It's the subject of the article that this thread is about. Manning walked off the field after a Super Bowl loss without shaking anyone's hand and everyone said it was because he cared so much. Newton walked out of an interview after a Super Bowl loss and everyone said it was because he was a punk. Is race a factor in peoples' reactions to each situation? Could be. Certainly not a stretch. -

Again, I don't care either. I ONLY CARE about it because he is widely regarded as white America's good ol' boy and because it annoys me how everyone's always like "well ya gotta like Manning." If it was Andy Dalton, I wouldn't be talking about it right now. -

Common knowledge here in Denver as well. He will literally be at a steakhouse and just ask random girls to come back to his hotel later with seemingly no concern whatsoever that people will talk about it. I was blown away when I heard this and then the girls who told me were shocked that I didn't know about it already. Then I googled it and it appears that everybody in Indianapolis knew about it as well. What does it say that so few people in other markets are aware of it? It means, as Chan mentioned earlier, that the guy has an incredible PR team. -

Fine. "From what I know" then. Ha. Believe me, I went to plenty of Nuggets-Lakers games in the wake of that and people did not let him forget about it. Very similar to Roethlisberger- at first you heard the "no means no" chants and after a decade or so, it kind of got swept under the rug. Much the same way it will for Patrick Kane if he stays out of trouble for a while. If anyone ever said that Kobe got treated unfairly by the fans or by the media, they would have been guilty of playing the race card when it wasn't applicable. Race card very much applicable in this situation. The article lays it out very neatly and cleanly actually. -

I did just read the article and I think it's a good article. I think the race card is wildly overplayed in America in 2016 but I think it's blatantly applicable here. -

This conversation could've gotten out of hand (I was about to talk about the stock market as a viable long term investment- certainly for someone Manning's age- but opted to drop it). All I'm saying is that I don't like the guy and what makes me like him even less is when people tell me I "gotta" like the guy when, to me at least, he's a bigger dork and every bit as unlikeable as Tom Brady. That's all. If you like Peyton Manning, then fine, we can agree to disagree. -

Maybe it's because I live in Denver and I hate the Broncos even more than I hate the Patriots. And yes, we are having two different discussions. I do not question that Peyton Manning's investment in Papa John's is a sound and savvy investment. I'm just saying that if I had $100 million, I would probably just coast on that for a while, maybe do some cool traveling, rather than team up with a gargantuan douche and shill sh***y pizza. Whatever, I honestly do not care that much about this one. Ehh doing one goofy Snickers commercial was totally cool. And I'm not sure Marv Levy ever even made $1 million in a season. I would happily shill a quality candy bar such as Snickers if my gradnkid's grandkid's grandkids weren't already guaranteed to be filthy rich two centuries from now. -

To be clear, I don't really care about Peyton Manning and I was the one that brought up the juxtaposition vis-a-vis Brady. But have you ever listened to Brady on the Monday Night Football halftime radio show telecast when he's on with Jim Gray and Larry Fitzgerald? He actually comes off as pretty likeable. Meanwhile who wants to recall when Manning jogged off the field and wouldn't shake anyone's hand after the Super Bowl loss against the Saints? Nobody. If I was worth over $100 million and I could do anything in the world to make even more money, I can assure I would not appear in dopey commercials to make a few extra bucks and I certainly wouldn't promote a horrible fast food pizza chain. I like Bocce's and Leonardi's, you may be more of a Papa John's guy, to each their own. Me, I would like to think I would spend my time doing more of the stuff that Brian Moorman did when he was on the Bills and still does and just invest my money in stocks. Does Peyton Manning believe in Papa John's as a quality pizza establishment so much that he needs to be worth $150 million instead of $100 million or whatever? I don't know. I would just take my $100 million and do stuff I really believed in. -

Not offended per se, no of course not. It's just another reason that he's a huge dork. What offends me is that he is considered America's good ol' boy. Not like liberal white guy "I'm offended," it's more like it's insulting to my intelligence. And in that sense, I am also offended how everyone 'round these parts hates Tom Brady but was all "sure I'd love to see Peyton win one more and ride off into the sunset?" Why? The guy is a freaking dork. I wanted to see Thomas Davis win one. He coaches youth football with my cousin in Charlotte and from all accounts is a hell of a guy. -

Do you like Tom Brady? If not, why not? I don't like Peyton Manning. Aside from beating the Bills every year (and the Uggs ads), has Tom Brady offended you more as a person than Peyton Manning? And 90% of players cheat on their wives? Hmm wasn't aware of that. I literally know multiple girls here in Denver- who he didn't even know, mind you- that he has casually invited to his hotel room. Everyone knows he was doing the same thing in Indianapolis. In fact, he doesn't even try and conceal it, which is why most people think they have an open relationship. And if that's the case, great for them, nobody's business. But to pretend that he's America's good ol' boy, nah sorry. And 90% of players have dropped their pants and rubbed their packages in a young girl's face in college? Gotcha. -

Thank you- add that to the list, that he used to B word at his offensive line and thrown them under the bus in front of the media. He's always been a B word. And the fact that he somehow managed to become white America's good ol' boy makes me like him so much less. -

Didn't read the article but allow me to say this. I have always disliked Peyton Manning. Between the college incident, the fact that he has openly cheated on his wife in both Indianapolis and Denver (whether they have an open relationship is still unclear), the fact that he has one of the bigger platforms of any athlete in the US and what does he do with his fame, wealth and power? Invest in a terribly sh***y fast food pizza chain owned by a complete douche, the HGH thing, etc. And then after winning the Super Bowl, do we even see his wife? Nope but he does manage to kiss said douche fast food pizza guy and then shill for a sh***y brewery that he's also invested in. And all along, the narrative amongst Bills fans has always been "Brady, Brady, Brady, wah, wah, wah. What a loser, what a h**o, I hate Brady, blah, blah, but... but Peyton Manning- YOU gotta like Payton Manning, right?" Which of course, only goes to increase my disdain for the guy. Nope. Hate Peyton Manning. Decidedly more than Brady. -
Who makes the playoffs first?

Didn't have McCoy against the Titans and the Titans' defense played a tough game. Jacksonville's defense sucked that day. It quite literally should've been the easiest W all season. -

Dude Jacksonville wasn't even good that day- by Jacksonville standards. Of course they would've won with Taylor. It's not even a question. They got a healthy McCoy back and he looked great. Our defense wasn't even that bad that game prior to the wining drive. They sucked on both sides of the ball. I just think it's amusing that all season long people were like "even Jacksonville has passed us, what a joke we are" and they ended up 5-11. -

metzelaars_lives replied to CommonCents's topic in The Stadium Wall Archives
Oh God. The Jaguars are the team that, all season, this website was holding up as some standard like "see, look at Jacksonville, they get it. They're off and running. They got the franchise QB. They're competing for their division. And look at lowly us..." Guess what? If Taylor plays in London they finish 4-12 and we finish 9-7. The Bills. -
If Mel Kieper's Bills draft picks were accurate
metzelaars_lives replied to SJDK's topic in The Stadium Wall Archives
Are we comparing apples to apples here? Are these the picks from these guys' final mocks? If so, I'm sure in a lot of instances, Kiper and Mayock would have changed their picks for the Bills based on whoever was actually available at the time. Like I'm waiting for the first person to be like "see Mayock is smart he had us taking Kuechly." Well Kuechly was already gone when the Bills picked. For the hundredth time, Mel Kiper is very good at what he does. Yes he was wrong about Jimmy Clausen. Do you know how many people on this website mocked Carolina for taking Cam Newton? And then mocked Denver for taking Von Miller over Dareus?? It's kind of a crapshoot fellas. Not to mention, Kiper bases his mocks on what he's hearing around from around the league, not how good he necessarily thinks guys are going to be. -
Difference between Bills fans and Patriots fans
metzelaars_lives replied to Jerry Jabber's topic in The Stadium Wall Archives
Winner. -
Exactly. And people need that reminder sometimes. I remember watching a Titans-Ravens playoff game that year the Titans went 14-2 with Kerry Collins and it was so scrappy and yards were so hard to come by, must've been like a 17-14 game and I remember thinking that was exactly the kind of football game I like and then being surprised when everyone else was saying it was boring.
-
I also thought it was a good football game and was surprised to hear people talking about it as some sort of dud. I thoroughly enjoy defensive battles. Always have. I mean, you just got to see a top 5 all time defense dominate one of the better offenses in recent memory. It was quite spectacular actually. Counterpoint would be that Cam was off and I get that. If he hits some of those throws he usually makes, it's a different game.
