Believe it or not, McCown and Hoyer are both top 30 QB's in this league and will probably end up starting somewhere this upcoming season before it's all said and done. But agreed on the developmental type. McCarron is probably the most ideal backup QB in the league. But if he has another handful of decent games in the next year or two, he's your next Brock Osweiler. And around and around it goes.

May have been EJ's worst moment?? Believe me, I am in no way defending EJ Manuel. Quite frankly, I think he sucks. But Charlie Whitehurst is a great example of a guy we never see play so we somehow assume he must not be that bad. I'm sure he sucks too. I guess what I'm saying is that most backup QB's suck or else they wouldn't be backup QB's. As WGR pointed out in the very article we are discussing, his numbers last year fell pretty much in line with other backup QB's around the league. Who is a GOOD backup QB? Maybe Hasselbeck? OK. Sanchez? He might even be a starter now. Those guys are maybe top 30 QB's in the league. All I'm saying is that EJ might be the 50th best QB in the league. Which is probably good enough to be a backup. Give me someone we should get instead and I'm guessing it's someone who's a borderline starter.

Oh believe me, I am well aware he singlehandedly cost us the Jax game. I've argued it many times on here. I also think he may have learned a lesson from that and I'm also not sure many backup QB's play as well as he did in the second half of that game. I also found it thoroughly amusing when the last few stragglers were insisting he played well against Cincinnati. But is he a top 64 QB in the league? Sure.

I am the ultimate "EJ hater" and "Tyrod fanboy" right? EJ Manuel is a perfectly capable backup QB. His play last year was about what you'd expect from a backup NFL QB. More and more, people round these parts seem to think that other teams have five great offensive linemen, great backup QB's, etc. Sorry but it's a TBD fallacy. If backup QB's were any better they'd be starters. EJ Manuel is what a backup QB looks like. He's fine. As long as he doesn't have to play for an extended period, of course.

RT Jordan Mills
metzelaars_lives replied to 2020 Our Year For Sure's topic in The Stadium Wall Archives
Mills was serviceable last year. That's the point. You aren't going to find five guys on Glenn and Incognito's level across your line. They have a good offensive line as it stands. I wouldn't be shocked if they drafted a tackle in the first three rounds but I also wouldn't be shocked if they thought they could get by with Henderson/Mills and have far more pressing needs elsewhere. Your name coincides perfectly with this post. Agreed. As I have stated time and time again, I do no fault the Bills when they make a pick that is reasonable at the time and doesn't work out. Kujo being a perfect example. He went right about where he was supposed to. Mike Williams is the best example. No one argued with that pick at the time. So were Brian Bosworth, Tony Mandarich and Ryan Leaf at #2. Donte Whitner was not a good pick. Neither was Torell Troup or TJ Graham. -
Yes, of course it was. It wasn't in the sense that ok, we could've stayed at 9 and taken Beckham. But a) according to most, we probably wouldn't have taken Beckham and b) everybody had Watkins ahead of Beckham going into the draft; in fact, a lot of people had Watkins as the #1 overall player in the whole draft. Bottom line, Watkins is worth a 9th overall pick and a 20th overall pick or whatever we would've picked last year. Just imagine if we had Ebron and some guard instead of Watkins. I liked the move at the time and I still do today. Sit back relax and marvel at the season he is going to have this year now that the Bills finally realized you have to get the ball in his hands even when he's not wide open. And believe me, if Beckham was on the Bills the last two years and Watkins was on the Giants, we'd think about these two players very differently. Watkins is a complete beast just like everyone knew he would be. Ok just read the article. What the hell is James Lofton talking about when he tries to make the analogy involving an appetizer at a restaurant?

There ya go. Cleveland did it, what the hell is the big deal. A lot of you guys have gone soft on me. One day the Bills will play another home playoff game. I was at the last home playoff game and I'll damn sure be at the next one. And I'll be goddamned if I'm gonna tailgate with my brothers all morning in that or even a new sacred parking lot and then walk into a 70 degree dome. What's the matter with some of you people?

Ehh I'm gonna say that you referring to Taylor as "meh" was the very definition of antagonistic as you knew exactly where this conversation was going to head from there. Hold on a second. Nobody said the 2014 Bills defense was in the same class as this year's Broncos. This year's Broncos defense was one of the best in history; the 2014 Bills was one of the best in the league. Everyone knows that. What people, including myself, have contended is that if the 2015 Bills got the same play from their defense that they did in 2014, they absolutely could've contended for a Super Bowl. Don't forget, the Bills offense this past season was significantly better than the Broncos. -

Exactly. Taylor is way better than Eli and Flacco were in their first seasons as starters. Let's just see what happens instead of diagnosing him as "meh" after one season. Again, very few people seem to grasp just how good the guy was for a first year starter. Far too many people are in the "well he was in the league studying behind a good QB so I'm gonna compare him to a fifth year starter rather than a first year starter" camp. -

So you're telling me that if the Bills offense performs at the same clip as last year (12-13th in the league- but again, why would they- you do realize QB's are typically better in their second year as a starter than their first year AND Sammy Watkins is going to be a complete beast, right?) and their defense is "dominant" (your words), that that's only good for a Houston Texans-like 10-6 wild card exit? -

Tyrod Taylor was an above average QB last season. Statistically, he was WAY above average but let's not get too far ahead of ourselves. The Bills' offense was above average last season (again, 13th overall and 12th in scoring). He's already a top 15 QB in the NFL right now. What makes you think that he wouldn't improve in his second year as a starter? Even if they don't improve at all, a 13th ranked offense and a "dominant" defense, as you put it yourself, can win a Super Bowl. The Broncos just did it with a way worse offense than the Bills last season. What don't you understand about this? I mean, forget about the Bills for a second. If you knew next year that a team would have the 13th ranked offense and, say, the 3rd ranked defense, what would you say about that team's chances? On paper, that is not a "10-6, wild card loss team." That's an excellent football team. My God, if the 2014 Bills (who were 4th, not 3rd) could've gotten 13th overall offense type of play from Orton and co., there's no telling how far they could've gone. -

Oh geez I didn't know you were another one of those guys. How can you talk that way about a guy who gave us the best QB play since at least 2002 Bledsoe, making the first 14 starts of his career for a team that you profess to care about so much that you have posted over 16,000 times on a website devoted solely to? You do realize that if Taylor was a rookie last year he would've waltzed away with the rookie of the year award, right? God, there's like five of you who delight in rooting against this guy and I just don't get it. Just saw your age- obviously before your time but I was at Jim Kelly's first game against the Jets in 1986 when he was roughly the same age as Taylor was last year. Took him a few years to really hit his stride ya know. You clearly have no perspective for just how well Taylor played considering it was his first year as an NFL starting QB. Let the dude work out with his receivers all offseason and get a second year to settle into a new offense and perhaps he can improve on his "meh" top 10 QB rating and YPA, 20 TD's to 6 INT's, all while being the most dynamic running QB in football. -

I'm not sure some people have been able to put what happened last season into proper perspective: the Broncos won the Super Bowl with LITERALLY the worst quarterback in all of football. Could you make the argument that you maybe would've taken him over a handful of starting QB's in the league in the playoffs due to his experience? Sure. Maybe a handful. But dude, to make this about Tyrod Taylor again? The Bills offense finished 13th/12th in total offense/scoring. If you don't think they could've WON THE SUPER BOWL (not saying they would've but they could've- they obviously would've made the playoffs) with the 2014 Jim Schwartz defense, then I really question your football acumen. Defense is kind of important. -

RG3 meeting with Browns (update: signed)
metzelaars_lives replied to YoloinOhio's topic in The Stadium Wall Archives
These numbers don't mean anything. The only thing that matters is the guaranteed money and $6.75 million or whatever is nothing. That's actually a good investment considering his upside. Taylor is already worth way more than that (Osweiler got $37 million guaranteed and Taylor has proven a hell of a lot more than Osweiler) and will be worth even more if he can build off of last season. Believe me, the Browns will be elated if they have to pay RG3 that $22 million. -
What in the world? So because I have a cell phone I'm not allowed to object to calls for a new stadium from other owners. That's not a reach at all. Yes that's the whole point- I do love the entertainment that these rich people provide me. But that entertainment would be able to continue just the same whether or not the Bills build a new stadium. I can assure you that my love for the NFL does not increase every time a team moves into a newer, more modern stadium. If anything it decreases. I just hate being told that this is somehow "necessary." It isn't!
