This Article Made Me Smile (Jairus Byrd)
metzelaars_lives replied to Canadian Bills Fan's topic in The Stadium Wall Archives
Great post. Look at the greatest QB's of the last 30 years. Virtually every head coach that coached them for the bulk of their respective careers will at worst be on a Hall of Fame ballot. Talent is like 90% of the equation. -
If you break the numbers down TT over 7 years..

Exactly. If he performs this year, he'll be a Buffalo Bill for a long time and a very, very wealthy man. Everyone will be happy. -
It doesn't hurt my feelings whatsoever. It baffles me that a grown man, who loves football so much that he dedicates a healthy portion of his day every day to a website dedicated solely to football; a man who is otherwise able to string together cognitive thoughts and complete sentences and even has a knack for grammar, holds an opinion on football that is so utterly preposterous that he is literally the only one in the world to hold such an opinion. In fact, my only logical explanation for the things you say is that you don't really mean it; that you dug such a hole for yourself that you can't turn back and stubbornly insist on sticking to your guns no matter how ridiculous you sound. Gugny, you stated that you are more skeptical about the Bills' QB situation now than you were in 1985. Words can't even describe how ridiculous of an opinion that is to have. It's almost factually incorrect.

Look, if you polled 1,000 analysts, sportswriters, broadcasters, coaches, former players, etc., zero of them would say that EJ Manuel is better than Tyrod Taylor. Zero of them would have Tyrod Taylor ranked as low as the 30th best starting QB in the NFL. Zero. We're not the crazy ones dude. You don't know something that no one else does. You could even predict that he will be the 30th best QB next season. But to say that, based on last season and where everyone stands right now, that he is the 30th best QB in the NFL- you can't say that. Like you can't. It's not reality.
-
So you have "SEEN" that Brock Osweiler is better than Tyrod Taylor? That Teddy Bridgewater is better than Tyrod Taylor? Tyrod Taylor played more games than Osweiler last season and he WAS BETTER. There literally is not one statistic that Bridgewater was better than Taylor in last season. I would take Mariota over Taylor if I'm building a franchise but Taylor was better last season. Period. As if Mariota had the exact same season as Taylor last year, you'd be like "now that guy sucks. And not only does he suck but there's no chance of him improving." In what universe is Colin Kaepernick better than Taylor right now? Or based on what you "SAW" last season? Hence, the crusade accusation. I just don't understand what you're seeing when you watch a football game. We have had bad QB play for SO long and then finally last season we get solid QB play and your stance is "no, that is actually even worse than what we've had." It's an insane stance.
-
OK Tyrod Taylor threw for 20 in essentially the same situation. Look at Aaron Rodgers' progression from his first season as a starter to his third season as a starter. No one is saying he is Aaron Rodgers but to think that Taylor can't improve on his first season as a starter goes against all logic and reason. He WAS a top 15 QB in the NFL last season. Statistically, he was a top 10 QB in the NFL last season almost any way you dice it. To say, "OK let's see him do it again, some of his numbers may have been inflated by an inordinate number of deep balls that he hit on, let's see him improve on his intermediate passing, etc." is all fair game. To rank him 20th because some of the guys he performed better than last season have done it longer is TOTALLY fair. But to rank him 30th is asinine and you know it. Nonetheless, your crusade continues.

You know full well he's been in the league for five seasons. And this continued narrative of yours that he should have been just as good as a guy who started the previous four seasons is laughable. Aaron Rodgers wasn't as good in his first year as he was in his third. You might be the only person in the whole world who doesn't think Tyrod Taylor had a good season for a first year starter. If he was a rookie, he walks away with the rookie of the year. You act like he definitely already hit his ceiling, there's no room for improvement and it should be obvious to everyone else that he's bound to regress. Why? What is wrong with you?

Not everyone at ESPN is pessimistic about the Bills...

These are the worst kind of posts. Yes, the pass defense was pretty good last year. Yes, they still GREATLY underachieved as a unit overall. The two concepts are not mutually exclusive. In fact, it just goes to show how bad the front seven was when our pass defense actually exceeded all expectations and we still sucked. You could easily construct an argument that Rex "destroyed" our defense, absolutely. Look at the pass rush numbers. Would be just as easy for someone to cite them and make some snide "wait but I thought Rex was the best coach ever..." comment. -

Me and my buddies were just talking about this last night. The over-saturation of all things NFL is incredibly off-putting. Perfect example, I was watching ESPN after the schedule came out and Herm Edwards was going through the Patriots' schedule, emphatically predicting a winner for each game. That right there is dumber than a group of girls getting together to watch The Bachelor. Fantasy football has also kind of ruined things for me. While I happen to enjoy it myself, it also makes every idiot in your office an expert on Monday morning when they don't know s**t about the game. If I have to hear one more debate on the NFL network between grown men over the top 10 linebacking units or the top 10 receiving corps or whatever, I swear to God. While this stuff maybe lures in a casual fan or two, it just drives away a lot of true fans. The NFL is the classic example of not knowing when to just leave well enough alone. Do color rush Thursday night games enhance the viewing experience for anyone in the world? To me, the NFL was the best when Topps football cards were .50 a pack for 15 cards, Tecmo Super Bowl was the hype, the Bucs wore orange and we didn't know anything about the brain injury stuff. It'll never be the same. That being said, I'll be pretty psyched by the time the season rolls around I'm sure. -
Yeah. And I'm obsessed with Manuel.

Again, Donald Trump is not a Bills fan. He has said he loves the Bills the same way he says he loves the people of (pick a state), the poorly educated, Mexicans and Muslims.

Tight End position. Should we be worried?

If Dray makes any sort of plays this year whatsoever, there is a ton of potential with "Dr. Dray" references. -

Good post. -
Yeah I'm from Amherst/Wiiliamsville so I'm familiar with all the good northtowns spots. I guess what's noteworthy is that I've lived in Denver for 14 years and have never tasted a wing even close to as good as what I had last night at such a random local bar- not like a Buffalo staple. Eric Striker is sorely mistaken.

This is closer to what I would have than just about any other list I've seen. You have Dalton and Cutler a little high and I'd definitely place Carr ahead of Cousins. A healthy Romo is still the 8th or 9th best QB in the NFL. Certainly better than Matt Ryan, who may have hit his proverbial ceiling and even started to regress a little. I don't get the Bortles love from some people. He was a great fantasy QB last year because they were down by 21 points by the second quarter pretty much every game. Well, with the exception of- never mind. Let's see if he can turn into more of a complete player this year.
